The 36-year-old was indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury in connection with the March shooting at Rihanna’s Beverly Crest home. The indictment, which was returned June 18, was unsealed Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Ortiz is facing one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
She pleaded not guilty and remains jailed on $2.65 million bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 29. If convicted, Ortiz faces up to life in prison.

The charges stem from the March 8 shooting, when prosecutors allege Ortiz pulled up outside Rihanna’s home and opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle.
Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and their three children were at the property at the time. The singer and Rocky were inside an Airstream trailer when the gunfire erupted, according to a police report obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
Rihanna told investigators she heard about 10 loud sounds, grabbed Rocky and pushed them both to the ground before the couple went to check on their children.
The bullets hit multiple areas around the property, including the Airstream. Three bullet impacts were found on the trailer, although the rounds did not penetrate it.
Authorities also documented damage to the property’s gate, fence, patio, and the exterior wall of a nursery where the children were located.
Ortiz was arrested in Sherman Oaks shortly after the shooting. Police say she was driving the same white Tesla allegedly used in the incident and found a black Springfield Armory rifle and two 30-round magazines in the vehicle.
The case took an unexpected pause months later when Ortiz’s public defender questioned whether she was competent to stand trial. “It is the ethical obligation of counsel and the court to ensure that Ms. Ortiz’s rights are protected, including being able to assist counsel in conducting a defense in a rational manner,” Dillman told The Associated Press.
After a court-ordered evaluation, a judge ruled on Sept. 29 that Ortiz was competent, allowing the criminal proceedings to continue. The details of the evaluation remain sealed.
Ortiz has also reportedly denied that she was trying to kill Rihanna. According to the Los Angeles Times, she told police after her arrest that she “wasn’t attempting murder.”
Prosecutors have not publicly identified a motive, but Ortiz had made several social media posts about Rihanna in the weeks before the shooting.
One post tagged the singer and told her to “say something to me directly instead of sneaking around.” She also shared a post making a false claim about Rihanna’s health.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman addressed the seriousness of the case following the indictment. “Every person deserves to feel safe in and around their home,” Hochman said. “Shooting at an occupied home is a serious, violent crime that is both reckless and dangerous.”
Hochman added that it was “pure luck and not a matter of restraint” that nobody was killed or injured. No one was physically injured in the shooting, but the fact that Rihanna, Rocky and their children were home when the gunfire erupted added an extra layer of terrifying details.
The rapper later opened up about the incident with VIBE, calling it “f**ked up.” “Somebody attempted at [harming] me and my family,” he said. “It took away a lot of peace and happiness of being able to just be free.”

Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger has the world talking and speculating about what the big twist is. One thing people know is that it’s a comedy of “catastrophic proportions.” Once you watch the film, it becomes apparent that Iñárrituwants people to laugh, not because the world is funny, but because sometimes humor is the only way to make sense of it.

Ahead of the film’s release, I talked to Iñárritu for HOLA!, and brought up a line from the film: “They have to be able to laugh at it” and asked when he realized comedy could be a form of medicine. “Humor is like olive oil in a salad,” he told me in Spanish. “Without it, I think we cannot digest life, or it gets stuck.”
For anyone who has used humor to cope, they know it doesn’t necessarily make difficult things disappear, but it can make them easier to process. For Iñárritu, that ability is important in a world where people seem increasingly divided.
“Humor is the only way for us to separate ourselves and recognize ourselves in it,” he explained. “In a world so fragmented, when touching on profound subjects, humor is essential.”
He believes comedy can bring people together in a way that arguments often cannot. When we laugh at ourselves, we have to acknowledge our own vulnerabilities and limitations, and, in doing so, recognize something familiar in the people around us.
“Humor cannot be fragmented,” he said. “When something is funny, it’s funny to people who think one way and people who think another.”

It’s a sentiment that sits at the heart of Digger, a film that Iñárritu hopes will reach audiences beyond their political beliefs or personal perspectives – despite the obvious similarities of what’s happening in the United States government. And while some might leave feeling like the film is political, the writer and director says that’s not the case.
He said he isn’t interested in making a movie for one particular person or group. When I asked whether he would want President Donald Trump to see it, his answer was straightforward. “I’d like everyone to see it. Honestly, it’s not made for anyone. It’s made for the world.”
The Oscar-winning director explained that the themes in Digger go far beyond the political headlines that might come to mind when watching a story about power and a looming catastrophe. “This film transcends politics,” he told me. “This film is about human nature.”

After passing away at the age of 36, it was recently revealed that she had sought treatment just weeks leading up to her death. Now, it’s been reported that a welfare check was conducted just one week before she passed.

According to Us Weekly, which obtained a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department call report, deputies conducted a welfare check at the actress’ West Hollywood apartment on August 9.
The heavily redacted report does not identify Panettiere by name, but a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Us that the call concerned the Nashville star.

According to the report, someone contacted authorities around 10 p.m. after becoming concerned about a woman at the residence who was not responding to phone calls.
“She had become unresponsive to many people in her circle, and there was concern,” a source tells Us.
When deputies arrived at the apartment, they were reportedly told that the woman had been “sick all day” and “did not feel good.”
The source claims Panettiere’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, was the person who answered the door.
The source also alleges that, after Panettiere was hospitalized in the days before her death, she told a friend who came to visit that Hickerson had taken her phone. Us could not independently verify that claim.
The welfare check happened exactly one week before Panettiere was found unresponsive at a South Carolina Airbnb. She was 36.
Her father, Skip Panettiere, told investigators about the stay, while one of the Hickerson brothers separately said she had been at the facility “up until a few weeks ago.”
Panettiere later traveled from Los Angeles to Greenville, South Carolina, with Hickerson. According to investigators, she was found unresponsive the following day.
A Hickerson family member told authorities that Panettiere was found face down on a sofa bed. He said she appeared “purple in color” and that he administered Narcan twice before the brothers called 911 and began CPR.
Emergency responders continued efforts to revive her for roughly 30 minutes before she was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 p.m. Panettiere’s official cause of death was later determined to be the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. Her manner of death was ruled an accident.
The August 9 welfare check was not the only time law enforcement responded to Panettiere’s apartment.
The sheriff’s call report also details multiple incidents in 2025 involving an unidentified man at the West Hollywood complex.
On August 4, deputies were called after a white male wearing no shoes was reportedly seen attempting to enter a unit. The man had left before officers arrived, and authorities described the situation as an “ongoing issue.”

Police advised the caller to change the locks and contact them if the man returned. Later that afternoon, authorities were called again after the same individual was reportedly seen entering and leaving the apartment complex.
The document shows another call to the apartment on September 8, 2025. This time, an unidentified white male was reportedly in the building’s garage and “refused to leave.”
The heavily redacted report does not identify the man as Hickerson, and it is unclear whether he was involved in any of the incidents.

TMZ had previously reported that neighbors were instructed to call 911 if Hickerson was seen at the property. In an interview airing on Inside Edition, Mia Terrazzas, a neighbor of Panettiere in West Hollywood, described years of disturbances she says she witnessed at the actress’ apartment building.
Terrazzas told Inside Edition that she called 911 at least six times to report disturbances at Panettiere’s home. She also shared a photo of a notice that was reportedly posted by the property’s homeowners association, urging residents to call 911 if Hickerson was seen at the complex.
The notices were reportedly taken down about a week later. Terrazzas said she tried putting them back up, but the HOA removed them again.
The neighbor said she was “terrified” of Hickerson, claiming he continued living at Panettiere’s home.
“This predator was in our community,” Terrazzas told Inside Edition. She also alleged that Hickerson caused damage inside the home, including an incident in which she said he “took a sledgehammer at 5 in the morning” to Panettiere’s bathroom.
Terrazzas also recalled seeing Panettiere being taken from the property by medical personnel on multiple occasions.
“I saw her leave, I think twice, in a gurney being taken away and didn’t know what was occurring at that time, but she appeared to be injured,” she said.
Hickerson has previously faced domestic violence charges involving Panettiere. Following an April 2020 incident, he pleaded no contest to two felony counts and was sentenced in 2021 to 45 days in county jail, four years of probation and domestic violence classes. He was also placed under a five-year restraining order.

Meghan Markle is giving fans a casual glimpse behind the scenes as she rolls out her latest holiday project, and her fresh-faced appearance is getting almost as much attention as what she has been working on. The Duchess of Sussex appeared makeup-free in an Instagram Story shared on October 1, offering a relaxed look at preparations for the first-ever Advent calendar from her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
The short video showed Meghan riding in a golf cart alongside Jonathan Grahm, creative director and chief chocolatier of Compartés. According to InStyle, the footage appears to have been filmed around Meghan and Prince Harry‘s Montecito property in California.
Meghan kept things casual. She appeared fresh-faced in a baseball cap and sweatshirt while smiling for the camera, creating a candid contrast to the more glamorous promotional images accompanying the new holiday release.
But the biggest reveal was what Meghan and Grahm had been planning.

Meghan captioned the behind-the-scenes footage “Christmas planning in June,” revealing just how early work began on the festive launch. In the clip, she tells viewers to “Hang on,” while Grahm adds, “Stay tuned.”

That project has now been revealed as an As Ever x Compartés Advent calendar filled with 24 handcrafted chocolates.
The limited-edition calendar draws inspiration from Meghan’s Montecito home and garden as well as flavors already associated with As Ever. The chocolates include raspberry, strawberry, blackberry, and orange marmalade-inspired varieties, along with a piece incorporating the brand’s flower sprinkles.
Each chocolate features a countdown number based on Meghan’s handwriting, while the calendar’s artwork references the California property and garden that have played a major role in the visual identity surrounding As Ever. The $148 calendar is scheduled to begin shipping in November.

Since launching As Ever, Meghan has expanded the label beyond the fruit preserves that initially defined it.
The official As Ever site now features products across pantry, gifting, wine and home categories, including spreads, honey, teas and candles.
As the days go by following Hayden Panettiere’s tragic passing, things keep getting messier. On Monday, it was revealed that her ex, Wladimir Klitschko, is taking legal action to protect their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, and the inheritance she is expected to receive from her late mother.

Klitschko, Panettiere’s former fiancé and Kaya’s father, filed paperwork in Los Angeles on Sept. 24 asking to be appointed the temporary guardian of Kaya’s estate, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
The request does not concern custody of Kaya; Panettiere had already given him full custody before she passed. He’s basically asking for authority to act on his daughter’s behalf while Panettiere’s estate goes through probate.
According to the filing, Kaya is the sole heir to Panettiere’s estate and “is entitled to the entirety” of the assets subject to the probate process. Klitschko says the appointment is “urgent and essential” so he can protect Kaya’s interests and help secure the assets she is set to inherit.
Klitschko alleges that some jewelry and other personal belongings are missing
Klitschko’s petition centers on concerns about what could happen to Panettiere’s property while there is no personal representative overseeing her estate.
The former boxer says federal agents accessed Panettiere’s Los Angeles home as part of the ongoing investigation into her death and removed property belonging to her estate.
Klitschko wants to have the authority to seek the return of those belongings once investigators no longer need them.
He also says he and Panettiere had previously hired a security service because of concerns that someone had gained unauthorized access to her home.
According to the court documents, the locks were changed after Panettiere’s death, while some storage units containing clothing and accessories she wore for public appearances were moved as a precaution.
Klitschko further alleges that some jewelry and other personal belongings are missing or unaccounted for, while certain items remain with law enforcement.
He also claims that non-family members accessed and destroyed some of Panettiere’s emails.
Without naming the individual he is concerned about, Klitschko wrote that he believes the person could continue attempting to take property from Panettiere’s estate.
Because Kaya is a minor and lives outside California, Klitschko is asking the court to give him the legal authority to act on her behalf during the probate process.
Hayden’s parents have now lost both of their children
Klitschko’s filing comes shortly after a separate dispute involving Panettiere’s parents and jewelry their daughter was wearing around the time of her death.
Her parents, Lesley Vogel and Skip Panettiere, reportedly disagreed over where the earrings should be sent after they were placed in a locker for safekeeping, according to a Greenville County coroner’s report obtained by Page Six.
One parent wanted the earrings sent to North Carolina, while the other wanted them delivered to an address in California.
The disagreement is now part of the broader questions surrounding Panettiere’s estate and what will happen to her belongings.
The legal battle over Panettiere’s estate comes just months after the actress spoke publicly about her relationship with her daughter and pushed back against the idea that she had abandoned her.
Panettiere and Klitschko welcomed Kaya in December 2014. The couple eventually ended their relationship, and in 2018, Panettiere gave Klitschko full custody while she sought treatment for postpartum depression and addiction. Kaya went on to live primarily with her father in Europe.
Panettiere addressed the decision during a May 2026 appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, saying the idea that she had simply “given away” her daughter was painful.
“I mean, the idea that anybody would think that I would just give away my child and be OK with it is heartbreaking,” she said. “Couldn’t be further from the truth.”
She explained that by the time she was healthy enough to consider bringing Kaya back to live with her, she felt it would have been unfair to disrupt the life her daughter had built.
“By the time I finally got healthy, I felt like it would have been unfair of me and selfish of me to try to pull her out away from this life that she had created,” Panettiere said. “She was living an incredible life. She’s an incredible little girl.”
