Selma Blair breaks down in court after shocking flight arrest

Actress Selma Blair appeared emotional in a New York City courtroom on Monday, October 12, 2026, after being arrested following an alleged disturbance aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York.

The 54-year-old Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions star pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault during her arraignment in Queens Criminal Court. The appearance came after allegations that she injured flight attendants and later assaulted a police officer and a nurse while receiving medical attention.

Blair, who has publicly discussed living with multiple sclerosis (MS), appeared tearful while standing before the judge in handcuffs, wearing jeans and a white hooded sweatshirt. Her attorneys argued that the incident was connected to a medical emergency rather than intentional violence.

The courtroom appearance has raised questions about what happened during the flight, Blair’s health, and the legal consequences she could face.

Why Was Selma Blair in Court?

Blair appeared in Queens Criminal Court following her arrest at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday, October 11. According to authorities, police responded to reports of a disruptive passenger aboard a Delta flight arriving from Los Angeles.

Two flight attendants reportedly suffered injuries during the incident, with one requiring hospital treatment. Air traffic control communications referenced a bloody nose and bite marks, although the complete circumstances surrounding those injuries have not been publicly established.

Blair was also taken for medical evaluation.

According to a criminal complaint, the actress allegedly kicked a Port Authority police officer multiple times while being transported for treatment. Prosecutors also allege that she kicked a nurse in the chest at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

Selma Blair Appears Tearful as Lawyers Explain Her Medical Condition

One of the most significant moments during the arraignment came when Blair’s legal team addressed her medical history. Attorney Shawn Barnes argued that her behavior was unintentional and attributed the episode to a combination of missed medication, physical exhaustion, and an injury sustained during the flight. “This was not an intentional assault,” Barnes told the court, according to reporting cited by TV Insider.

Barnes explained that Blair had missed several doses of medication used to manage severe neurological symptoms associated with her condition.

He also said the actress had been working extensive hours before boarding the flight and had fallen and struck her head while aboard the aircraft. “These factors, coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation,” Barnes told the court.

The explanation offered by Blair’s defense team has not been independently established as the medical cause of the incident.

Judge Says Selma Blair Will Not Receive Celebrity Treatment

During the hearing, Blair’s other attorney, Joshua Reitzas, appealed to the actress’s public reputation and her work as an advocate. “Consider her body of work and what she’s done for people,” he told the judge, according to courtroom reporting.

He described Blair as someone deserving of admiration, calling her “the gold standard.” However, Judge Indira Kahn made clear that Blair’s celebrity status would not influence how the court handled the case. “Ms. Blair should not get special treatment because she is a celebrity,” the judge responded.

The judge set bail at $20,000 cash or $60,000 bond, with a partially secured bond also permitted. Blair posted the cash bail and was released from custody. The court also ordered her to stay away from the nurse involved in one of the alleged assaults.

What Did Selma Blair’s Representatives Say About the Flight Incident?

Blair’s representatives issued a statement addressing her condition after the reported disturbance. “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” the statement said, as reported by CNN. The representatives added that Blair received immediate medical attention after the aircraft landed and was in stable condition.

Delta Air Lines also addressed the situation, reiterating its policy against disruptive or unlawful passenger conduct and emphasizing the safety of passengers and crew.

The FBI is separately investigating the allegations involving conduct aboard the aircraft, which falls under federal jurisdiction.

What Happens Next in Selma Blair’s Court Case?

Blair is scheduled to return to Queens Criminal Court on January 19, 2027. She faces two state-level second-degree assault charges. Reports indicate that a conviction could carry a prison sentence of two to seven years, depending on the applicable sentencing circumstances.

Separately, the FBI issued a federal violation notice concerning allegations of assault aboard the aircraft. That matter is expected to be handled in federal court in Brooklyn, although no appearance date had been announced as of October 13.

For now, Blair remains out on bail while the legal proceedings continue.

A sunny addition to Jenna’s wardrobe:

For the occasion, Ortega wore a Calvin Klein Spring 2027 ensemble that brought a bright touch to her familiar dark palette. A white top with yellow three-quarter sleeves was paired with a long black skirt, creating a clean, graphic silhouette.

The combination balanced the casual feel of the top with the elegance of the skirt, which skimmed her figure before falling to the floor. A long black scarf wrapped around her neck added movement.

The yellow sleeves felt particularly fitting for the film’s title, although the rest of the styling retained the understated drama that suits Ortega so well.

Black platform shoes peeked beneath the hem, while small gold earrings and delicate rings provided subtle finishing touches.

Her beauty look softened the outfit’s sharp contrasts. Ortega wore her hair in a ponytail with loose strands framing her face, pairing defined winged eyeliner with a muted rosy lip. The close-up photographs also showed her freckles, lending the makeup a fresh, natural finish.

Joining Amy Adams and Taika Waititi:

Ortega also posed alongside co-star Amy Adams and director Taika Waititi. Adams opted for a gray ensemble with a softly draped neckline, a defined waist and a front slit, finished with burgundy pointed pumps. Waititi wore a deep teal suit with a black shirt and sunglasses.

Pope Leo XIV has lung cancer: What doctors removed during his surgery

The news came directly from the Vatican. Hours after Pope Leo XIV, 71, underwent surgery in Rome, the Holy See revealed that he has lung cancer. The disease was found after a successful operation was conducted on him, removing a nodule from his lung.

“The Holy Father underwent thoracic surgery, as planned. To ensure a radical resection, the lower lobe of the right lung was removed using a video-assisted technique. An intraoperative histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, as suspected from the preoperative examinations,” explained Pope Leo‘s doctors.

To make sure the cancer was removed completely, the surgeons took out the entire lower lobe of his right lung, using a minimally invasive, camera-guided technique.

“The Holy Father was in the operating room for approximately three hours; the operation itself lasted about 90 minutes. The surgery was successful, and there were no complications,” continued the doctors’ bulletin.

“Following the surgery, the Pope awoke normally and, after a brief period of observation, returned to his room on the 10th floor.”

A smile at the hospital doors

Earlier that day, Leo had arrived at the hospital at around 1 p.m. in an official vehicle, looking calm and sending a smile to the cameras. Dressed in his white cassock, he took a few moments to greet the faithful who had gathered outside to offer their prayers and support, shaking hands before heading inside. At the main entrance, he was welcomed by the hospital’s leadership, who accompanied him through admission and oversaw the preparations ahead of surgery.

The diagnosis didn’t come entirely out of the blue. On Sunday, October 11, Leo himself told pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square that doctors had found a localized nodule in his lung during recent medical exams, and that he’d decided, on their advice, to have it removed.

“It was detected at a very early stage and is well contained,” he said, as reported by Reuters.

The Vatican has said his recovery is expected to take about a week in the hospital, and all of his public engagements have been canceled through October 20.

It marks the first major health event of a pontificate that began just 17 months ago, in May 2025.

    What is lung adenocarcinoma?

Lung adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that develops in the glandular cells of the lung. These cells are responsible for producing mucus and other secretions.

The cancer typically grows in the outer, peripheral areas of lung tissue, and while it can progress slowly, it has the ability to spread to other organs quickly if it isn’t caught in time.

It’s the most common subtype of non-small cell lung cancer, accounting for roughly 40 percent of all lung cancers, as cited by NPR. It can develop in both smokers and people who have never smoked, which makes it a relevant health concern across a wide range of populations.

Symptoms that may appear before it’s detected include a persistent cough, shortness of breath, pain in the chest or upper back, and coughing up blood.

Shakira dedicates a heartfelt message to her ex-boyfriend Antonio de la Rúa

After several weeks delighting the audience with her greatest hits and sharing the stage with major guest artists, Shakira has wrapped up her concert residency in Madrid, Spain, as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. The Colombian star, who just days ago came face-to-face with Gerard Piqué in court, created an emotional and instantly viral moment when she thanked everyone who had been part of her project in Spain.

The Barranquilla-born singer surprised many by sending a heartfelt message to a famous ex-boyfriend with whom she now shares a close friendship: Antonio de la Rúa.

On October 12, Shakira performed for the last time at the stadium that bears her name, located inside Macondo Park. It was an unforgettable evening, as she shared the stage with several of the stars behind some of her latest hits: Maluma, Beéle, Dani Martín and Bizarrap. The Colombian artist took a moment at the mic to give a very special thank-you to De la Rúa.

“Today I especially want to thank someone who has been by my side and supporting me throughout the tour, who has helped me so much during this whole tour and has been working behind the creation and every detail of Macondo Park,” the singer said. “Because in life everything transforms, like Drexler says,” she reflected, before finally mentioning Antonio by name.

“I want to thank someone who was once my partner and is now a great friend, a friend of my soul: Antonio de la Rúa,” Shakira told the massive crowd, which reacted with excitement to her words. “Antonio, thank you. Thank you for your friendship,” she added with a big smile.

Shakira and Antonio de la Rúa, son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rúa, started dating in 2000. He later became her manager and inspired successful songs like Día de Enero. However, what seemed like a fairy-tale relationship came to an end, and in 2011 they announced their breakup. He filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the singer seeking compensation for his work as her representative, a claim that was dismissed in 2013.

In 2024, after the departure of manager Jaime Levine, Shakira quietly brought Antonio back onto her team. Since then, the Argentine businessman has been present at several of his ex’s concerts, and even his daughter Zulu, whom he shares with former model Daniela Ramos, has posed with the Colombian star.

Shakira’s powerful message as she closes out her Madrid residency

Before sharing her heartfelt thanks to Antonio de la Rúa, the singer opened up to the audience about how she felt after these weeks in Spain. “This month has been, I think, one of the most important of my career. This residency has been historic for me,” ‘Shaki’ began. “I’ve also gone through some tough moments this month because of my dad’s health and because I’ve had to, well, deal with personal situations that you already know about,” she continued, apparently referring to the legal process with Piqué over the custody of Milan and Sasha.

“You truly make time stand still, and you give me the strength—because it really comes from you—to step out on stage every night with total joy and a full heart,” she added. “You’ve made me enjoy this as if I were just starting my career, and I will never forget that.”

“Life is all about addition and subtraction—on one hand it takes away, and on the other it gives, that’s how it is. And definitely, life has its ways of rewarding us, and this is one of them,” ‘Shaki’ said. “Maybe the most important thing isn’t what happened to us, but what we do with it and who we become. And I’ve become a woman who is grateful,” the singer admitted. “Every time we fall and get back up, we rise a lot wiser, a little more resilient, and a little stronger.”

Cristiano Ronaldo sends a heartfelt message to Lionel Messi after his last game with Argentina’s national team

On October 6, Lionel Messi closed an important chapter in his life as he played his final game with Argentina’s national team. Many current and former players, including legends like Ronaldinho, shared moving messages honoring his incredible career and his brilliant role with La Albiceleste.

Cristiano Ronaldo was no exception. After the emotional farewell at Estadio Monumental, he also expressed his respect for the man who, for so many years, was considered his biggest rival on the pitch.

Friends, colleagues, and fans flooded him with love, but among all the comments, the one that undoubtedly drew the most attention was Cristiano’s.

“Leo, so many years defending your country and a story that will remain forever. All my respect for what you’ve achieved with Argentina. A hug,” wrote the Portuguese star. Cristiano’s comment received over 6 million likes and sparked thousands of replies.

Months earlier, in August, CR7 had already sent Leo a personal message following the heartbreaking passing of his father, Jorge Messi. After the Argentine great broke his silence about his loss and shared an emotional message on social media, Cristiano reached out with words of support and comfort.

“A huge hug for you and your loved ones in these difficult moments, Leo. Stay strong,” Cristiano wrote in the comments on Leo’s post. That show of solidarity, which earned thousands of likes, didn’t come as a complete surprise, as the Portuguese icon went through the same loss years earlier when his own father, José Dinis Aveiro, passed away in 2005 due to liver failure.

In 2023, during a press conference at Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras, on the outskirts of Lisbon, Cristiano spoke about the rivalry with Messi that has followed them for years. “We shared the stage for 15 years and we ended up being, I won’t say friends, I’ve never had dinner with him (laughs), but we’re colleagues in this profession and we respect each other,” CR7 said. “People who like Cristiano Ronaldo don’t have to hate Messi. We’re both very good, we have changed the history of soccer. We’re respected all over the world, and that’s what matters most,” he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo talks about his own farewell from the national team

The same day Lionel Messi said goodbye to La Albiceleste, Cristiano Ronaldo shared a long open letter in which he addressed the controversy surrounding his unexpected departure from Portugal’s training camp ahead of their UEFA Nations League match against Denmark. At the end of his statement, “El Bicho” spoke about the moment when he will eventually say goodbye to the Portuguese national team.

Cristiano admitted he has heard “a lot of talk about farewell matches, that I should have a proper sendoff and that the Federation wants to give me that opportunity.” “I can promise all my fans, of course, and especially all the Portuguese people, that we will have one or more farewell matches; there will be time for that,” assured the 41-year-old player. “But when I think about the national team, what I really think about is competing,” he added.

“If I’m in good physical shape, playing for my club, hopefully scoring goals, once I have served whatever suspension I receive, I will be available, as I have always been until now, to compete and win with our national team,” Cristiano said, making it clear he’s ready to accept the consequences of his sudden departure from the Portuguese camp days earlier.

The end of a football era

For nearly 20 years, football fans around the world were divided into Team Messi and Team Ronaldo as the rivalry between them evolved into a global phenomenon that shaped modern football, fueled endless discussions, and pushed both superstars to unprecedented heights.

For the next nine seasons, they faced each other regularly in El Clásico, one of the biggest fixtures in world sport. Their battles helped elevate the Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry to unprecedented global popularity.

Former Miss Puerto Rico, Jennifer Colón, calls out male TV hosts over on-air remarks about working mothers

Former Miss Universe Puerto Rico Jennifer Colón is speaking out after a segment on Puerto Rican morning television left her questioning how women, particularly working mothers, are treated when they pursue their professional ambitions.

In a public statement shared on Instagram on October 2, 2026, Colón directly named television personalities Johnny Lozada and Julio Núñez, accusing them of using their platform to diminish her work while discussing her personal and professional life.

The controversy centers on a segment aired on En La Mañana PR, broadcast on TeleOnce, where Colón says her career and personal circumstances became a topic of discussion.

Her message was also directed at women who have been told their time has passed, that motherhood should limit their goals, or that starting over professionally is no longer an option.

What Did Johnny Lozada and Julio Núñez Say About Jennifer Colón?

The disagreement began when the hosts discussed Colón’s return to beauty pageants, including her plans to compete in Miss Grand International All Stars 2026. During the October 2 segment, Núñez questioned whether competing in another pageant was an appropriate priority for a woman in her 30s with four children.

According to Metro Puerto Rico, Núñez asked whether Colón should instead focus on her education and professional development rather than continue pursuing beauty competitions.

His comments prompted criticism from Colón, who viewed the discussion as an unfair judgment of her choices as both a mother and a professional.

TeleOnce’s own coverage confirmed that Núñez criticized aspects of Colón’s previous Miss Universe performance, including her wardrobe choices. The network also reported that a female panelist, Carlisa, disagreed with the criticism and defended women’s ability to pursue personal goals while raising children.

Jennifer Colón Responds: “I’m an Excellent Mom!”

Colón did not hold back when addressing the criticism. In a video response reported by Metro Puerto Rico, she declared: “¡Soy una excelente mamá!” The statement translates to “I’m an excellent mom!”

She also challenged what she considered an outdated way of thinking, asking whether society was still living in the Stone Age and whether those expressing such views were dinosaurs.

Former Miss Universe Puerto Rico Issues Public Statement

The controversy took another turn when Colón published a written statement on her verified Instagram account, @jennifercolonpr. The October 2 post, titled “Comunicado Público,” directly identified Johnny Lozada and Julio Núñez and criticized their treatment of her during the broadcast.

In the statement, Colón expressed disappointment that two men had used a television platform to diminish the work of a woman pursuing her ambitions while fulfilling her responsibilities as a mother.

She also acknowledged the female panelist who defended working mothers during the conversation. Her accompanying Instagram caption began: “Now the time has come to raise my voice.”

Colón explained that she was speaking not only for herself but also for young girls, aspiring professionals, working mothers, and women returning to their careers after having children.

She referenced familiar messages women sometimes encounter, including being told that their time has passed or that their ambitions are inappropriate because they have children. She ended the caption with one emphatic word: “Enough.”

Jennifer Colón Is Returning to Beauty Pageants

Colón represented Puerto Rico at Miss Universe 2024 and is now preparing for another international competition. The former titleholder, model, and presenter is a mother of four, a detail that became central to the television discussion.

Her upcoming participation in Miss Grand International All Stars 2026 represents another opportunity to compete internationally and continue developing her career in the beauty industry.

While some commentators have questioned the decision, Colón sees her return as an opportunity to challenge the idea that women must abandon their aspirations after becoming mothers.

She explained that changing this mentality is one reason she wants to compete again.

Her position also reflects changes within the beauty pageant industry, where conversations about age, motherhood, representation, and professional opportunities have become increasingly prominent.

The actor, model, and former personal trainer took to social media to celebrate his daughter’s 30th birthday on October 14, sharing a touching video montage featuring throwback photos from over the years.

But there’s an extra sweet detail behind the birthday surprise. Carlos revealed that his 11-year-old son helped him put the photo slideshow together, making the tribute a family project.

Carlos Leon Celebrates Lourdes Leon’s 30th Birthday With Throwback Photos

Turning 30 is a major milestone, and Carlos Leon found a personal way to celebrate his daughter.

Rather than simply posting a birthday message, he shared a video slideshow filled with photographs from the past, giving followers a glimpse into the memories he has collected as a father. The throwback pictures add a sentimental touch to the celebration, especially considering that Lourdes has spent much of her life in the public eye.

Born on October 14, 1996, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon is the daughter of Madonna and Carlos Leon, who were in a relationship during the 1990s. Although her parents separated when she was young, Carlos has remained an important part of her family story.

Who Is Lourdes Leon’s Dad, Carlos Leon?

Carlos Leon is a Cuban-born actor and former personal trainer who became widely known during his relationship with Madonna.

The former couple welcomed Lourdes in October 1996, making the future model and musician Madonna’s first child.

Over the years, Carlos has maintained a comparatively private public profile, particularly when measured against Madonna’s global celebrity status. Lourdes, meanwhile, has grown into a recognizable figure in entertainment and fashion.

Although her famous parents helped make her a familiar name from birth, she has worked to establish an identity separate from their careers.

That independence has become a defining part of her public image.

Lourdes Leon Turns 30 After Building Her Own Fashion and Music Career

At 30, Lourdes Leon has developed a career that extends well beyond being Madonna’s daughter. The model has appeared on major fashion runways and worked with prominent designers and brands, including Versace, Marine Serre, and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty.

She made her runway debut in 2018 at Gypsy Sport and has since become a regular presence at fashion events.  Lourdes has also pursued music under the stage name Lolahol, exploring an experimental sound that distinguishes her work from her mother’s pop catalog.

Her 2023 single “Spelling” is among the projects that have introduced audiences to her musical identity.

Despite the inevitable comparisons to Madonna, Lourdes has made it clear through her career choices that she’s interested in following her own creative instincts.

In June 2026, Madonna discussed her daughter’s reluctance to rely on her famous mother’s connections, explaining that Lourdes wants to avoid being perceived as someone taking advantage of family privilege.
