Rome’s MIA Market is launching a new strand dedicated to animated series called the Animation Series Gap Financing Market, and also an innovative hub to facilitate access for European productions to international financing, plus a new initiative focussed on experiential networking.
MIA (the acronym stands for the Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo or International Audiovisual Market) is launching the Animation Series Gap Financing Market that is conceived as “a new industry format aimed at projects already supported by broadcasters and partially financed,” according to a statement. Producers and broadcasters will present animated series projects seeking international co-producers, co-financiers and co-commissioners, aiming to close their financing so they can launch into production.
The Investment Hub will be a two-day platform for talks delving into European and international financial funds that support production. MIA said it would offer European and international operators a clear and concrete view of available co-production funds as well as equity investors, and of how to access them.
The unique, pre-Mipcom, boutique market is also launching the Casa MIA networking lounge, a new space located close to the main market areas accessible to all accredited participants that aims to “redefine the market experience and strengthen its relational dimension,” the statement said.
Rome MIA Market Chief Gaia Tridente during a Cannes press conference said the market is undergoing a transformation under which it aims to unite its vertical content segments into a more integrated industry platform.
“The objective is to address the sector’s real needs, generate new economies and offer concrete
tools for the development and sustainability of companies in the sector,” the statement said.
“With the 2026 edition, MIA takes another step forward in strengthening its identity as an international platform serving the entire film and audiovisual industry,” noted Alessandro Usai, head of Italy’s motion picture association ANICA.
The 12th edition of MIA will run Oct. 19-23 in the Eternal City.
