  • Homer Gere Says It’s “Really Funny” Working With Kaia Gerber on ‘The Shards,’ 30 Years After Famous Parents’ Divorce

Homer Gere Says It’s “Really Funny” Working With Kaia Gerber on ‘The Shards,’ 30 Years After Famous Parents’ Divorce

It was “really funny” for Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber to be working together on The Shards following their parents’ romantic history.

While chatting with E! News at the New York City premiere of Ryan Murphy‘s new FX series, both actors opened up about their experience sharing the screen 30 years after Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere divorced in 1995.

Crawford later remarried Rande Gerber in 1998 and they welcomed Kaia in 2001, while Richard Gere and Carey Lowell got married in 2002, two years after Homer was born. The latter couple ultimately divorced in 2016 and Richard has since tied the knot again with Alejandra Silva.

Homer told E! that it was “really funny” to jump into The Shards with Kaia as they “hadn’t met before shooting.” He added, “Two weeks before we met at a bar with all the other cast and we became friends. From the inside, it’s really normal.”

“We just became friends as coworkers before we started working, and she’s become a really close friend. It’s been lovely working with her,” the Euphoria actor continued.

Kaia echoed a similar sentiment on the red carpet, saying she had “never met Homer until we started filming,” despite both their parents still working in the entertainment industry throughout the last three decades.

“It was so lovely to work with him,” the Palm Royale actress added. “He’s so wonderful. He’s so funny. He makes me laugh so hard and he’s the greatest scene partner ever. And really it’s just such a supportive environment and we’ve gotten so close over this process.”

The Shards, adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’ book of the same name, follows a group of privileged high school friends as a serial killer strikes across Los Angeles in 1981.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Kaia spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her reaction to when she first learned Murphy would be adapting Ellis’ novel for the small screen.

“I’m a huge Bret Easton Ellis fan and when this book came out, I read it immediately and read it over and over again,” she said. “Then when I heard Ryan was doing it, I’m also the biggest fan of Ryan. He gave me my first ever job. When he told me he got the rights to it, I just got chills and teared up.”

The series premieres Aug. 5 on FX.

  • Ether, XRP flat as chip stocks steady on Samsung’s 250-fold profit surge

Ether, XRP flat as chip stocks steady on Samsung’s 250-fold profit surge

Crypto’s largest tokens were close to unchanged on Thursday as the semiconductor selloff that has driven markets for two weeks showed its first real sign of easing.

Ether traded at about $1,905 and bitcoin at $64,100, both flat on the day, with $XRP at $1.07, solana at $74, $BNB at $572 and TRON at 33 cents. Hyperliquid’s $HYPE slipped to $54. Volumes were modest, with roughly $28 billion changing hands in bitcoin and $10 billion in ether.

Electronics giant Samsung said chip profit rose more than 250-fold on AI memory shortages, and the Kospi swung between a 6% gain and a 2% loss before settling, after a stretch that took the index down more than 40% from its June peak.

Samsung’s reaction is the tell on how high the bar has become. Profit up 250-fold moved the shares 2%. SK Hynix reported profit up 557% on Wednesday and fell 17%. Results are not the problem, expectations are.

U.S. earnings split overnight. Microsoft gained nearly 9% in extended trading on its fastest cloud growth in four years, while Meta fell 8% on a weak revenue forecast. Nasdaq 100 futures rose 1% after the index entered a technical correction on Wednesday.

  • Cautious Atmosphere Remains in the Market, Crypto Fear and Greed Index Stays at 35! Here Are the Details

Cautious Atmosphere Remains in the Market, Crypto Fear and Greed Index Stays at 35! Here Are the Details

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index, a key indicator measuring investor sentiment in cryptocurrency markets, remained at 35 points, suggesting a continued cautious outlook in the markets. Calculated by CoinMarketCap, the index showed no change compared to the previous day, revealing that investor risk appetite remains low.

The index indicates “excessive fear” in the market as it approaches zero, and “excessive greed” as it approaches 100. The current level of 35 points is in the “fear” zone, indicating that investors continue to act cautiously due to uncertainty and that market confidence has not yet fully recovered.

CoinMarketCap considers a variety of data points related to the cryptocurrency market when creating its index. The calculation takes into account indicators such as price movements of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, market volatility, put/call ratios in derivative markets, stablecoin supply ratio (SSR), and user search data on the CoinMarketCap platform. This allows the index to reflect not only price changes but also investor behavior and market trends.

Recently, global macroeconomic uncertainties, expectations regarding central bank monetary policies, and volatile price movements in crypto assets have been cited as the main factors limiting investors’ willingness to take risks. The fact that the index has remained at the same level for several days also indicates that the market is struggling to determine a new direction.

Analysts note that the Fear and Greed Index alone is not sufficient for making investment decisions, but it is considered an important indicator for understanding market psychology. Historically, periods when the index fell to very low levels sometimes presented buying opportunities, while excessively high levels increased the risk of profit taking.

  • Justin Bieber’s Sneakers Worn During World Cup Final Performance Sold at Auction for Almost $30K

Justin Bieber’s Sneakers Worn During World Cup Final Performance Sold at Auction for Almost $30K

The internet was mixed on Justin Bieber‘s acoustic performance of “Everything Hallelujah” during the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show, but the superstar singer turned the outing into a net positive for charity.

Bieber stepped on the field during FIFA’s inaugural halftime show wearing a custom look by his own apparel brand, SKYLRK. On his feet, he slipped into a pair of SKYLRK kicks from the brand’s Matter Daddy Line in a latte colorway that has not yet been released to the public, per Hypebeast. The rest of his look — down to an earpiece — was reportedly all custom and not available for general sales.

After the World Cup, Bieber donated the SKYLRK sneakers to Christie’s auction house for the One Goal auction, which benefits the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The $100 million initiative was mounted to expand access to quality education and football for children worldwide by supporting grassroots organizations and inclusive learning programs.

Initial bids for the sneakers came in between $2,000 and $4,000, which seemed like an impressive number considering that Bieber wore them for just a few minutes that day. But on Wednesday, Christie’s confirmed that the sneakers sold for a whopping $26,400 by the time bids officially closed.

Bieber took part in the star-studded Topps halftime show, produced by Global Citizen and featuring Madonna, BTS, Shakira, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel with the New York Philharmonic, the Muppets and dozens of dancers during an action-packed 11 minutes. Coldplay’s Chris Martin helped curate the showing. Bieber wasn’t the only one to donate to the One Goal action, as he was joined in offering unique pieces by fellow halftime performers Shakira and BTS. The One Goal auction opened July 22 and closed Wednesday.

How to Watch the 2026 MLS All-Star Game Live (Even for Free)

How to watch for free: Unlike the World Cup, the MLS All Stars vs. Liga MX game is not available for free with a VPN, but you may be able to watch it for free using an Apple TV free trial.

After a month of breathtaking FIFA World Cup soccer, this beautiful game is expected to get another boost in popularity as two professional club leagues compete in the MLS All-Star Game today. As with the last two editions, this exhibition match will feature the best players from the MLS facing the top players from Mexico’s Liga MX.

The MLS All-Star game debuted in this format in 2021, and currently, MLS All-Stars lead the rivalry 3-1. As they face off for the fifth time, fans on both sides will be eager to see which league gets regional bragging rights. If you can’t wait to catch the action, here are all the details you need to watch the 2026 MLS vs. Liga MX All-Star Game live using a streaming subscription.

When Is the 2026 MLS All-Star Game?

The 2026 MLS All-Stars vs. Liga MX game will kick off today at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 29, at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. There will also be a halftime performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Ciara.

The 2026 MLS All-Star Game will stream on Apple TV, which has the official broadcasting rights for the league and its events through 2033.

You don’t need a dedicated MLS pass to watch the All-Star Game. In fact, Apple dropped the pass last year and made all MLS games available via its regular subscription, which now starts at $12.99 per month.

How to Watch the 2026 MLS All-Star Game for Free

Since Apple TV is the only streamer airing this game in the US, fans have only one option to catch the action. Thankfully, though, there are a few ways you can get an Apple TV subscription for free.

The easiest option is for first-time Apple TV subscribers. The streaming service offers a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, allowing you to tune into the MLS All-Star Game at no extra cost.

Another free trial option is available to those who recently purchased a new Apple device and haven’t subscribed to Apple TV before. The iPhone-maker offers three months of free Apple TV to such customers, and they can redeem the offer within 90 days. The Apple One bundle also comes with a 30-day free trial to Apple TV.

Can You Watch the 2026 MLS All-Star Game With a VPN?

Technically, you can watch the MLS All-Star game with a virtual private network (VPN) if you need to access AppleTV from another country. But you won’t be able to bypass the Apple TV paywall. Unlike the World Cup, which offered several free livestreams in different countries, you won’t be able to use a VPN to watch the MLS All-Star game for free in the US.

Will Lionel Messi Play in the MLS All-Star Game?

Soccer legend and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi will be notably absent from the 2026 MLS All-Star Game. This is the second year in a row he is missing the game; he was penalized with a one-game suspension for missing last year’s, but he will be allowed to take a break this year to recover from his tiring 2026 World Cup final against Argentina.

His club and country teammate Rodrigo De Paul has also been excused for the same reason.

“Prior to the start of the 2026 season, Major League Soccer and the MLS Players Association agreed that upon a player’s exit from the World Cup competition, clubs would have individual conversations with each player to determine the appropriate rest and return to training and competition timeline. Consistent with that agreement, Rodrigo De Paul and Lionel Messi will be excused from participating in the 2026 MLS All-Star Game,” MLS said in a statement.

Though Messi and De Paul will be missed, the MLS vs. Liga MX All-Star Game features other big names from world soccer, including 2014 World Cup winner Thomas Müller and South Korean star Son Heung-Min.

  • Grammys CEO “Saddened” Over BTS Decision to Not Submit for Awards

Grammys CEO “Saddened” Over BTS Decision to Not Submit for Awards

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. has issued a lengthy response after BTS announced they wouldn’t be submitting their music for Grammy consideration this year, giving his support to the group over their decision while also addressing critique toward the organization’s newly-created best Asian pop music performance category.

“I am saddened to hear that BTS has chosen not to participate in the Grammy Awards process this year, but as a music creator, I understand and respect their decision,” Mason Jr. wrote. “I do want to clarify something that seems to be getting lost in the conversation. The Asian Pop category was created to celebrate the depth, diversity and extraordinary growth of pop artistry coming out of Asia. The spirit of this new category is to shine a dedicated spotlight on these important artists.”

BTS first announced their decision on Tuesday night, sharing posts on Instagram where they said they “hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.”

The move came just over a month after the Recording Academy first introduced its new Asian pop category, which, per the Academy, “recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. Awards are presented to the performing artist(s).”

The award had received a mixed response from fans, with some arguing the award could keep Asian acts from getting properly recognized in the general categories. In his statement, Mason Jr. said the genre categories don’t”exclude an artist from also submitting and being considered in the General Field.”

“Recognition in a genre category and recognition in the General Field are not mutually exclusive,” Mason Jr. said. “An artist can absolutely pursue both.”

Mason Jr. further wrote that the Academy adds new categories “never to divide, but to expand who is recognized by our 15,000 Grammy voters.”

“The Grammy organization is here to serve music and all the people who make it,” Mason Jr. wrote. “As we continue to expand the reach, our membership and our awards, regardless of geography or language, I want to emphasize that we will continue to listen to the global music community and work to honor and celebrate all the artists whose music moves the world.”

BTS isn’t the first act to rebuke the Grammys, as other major stars including The Weeknd, Drake and Morgan Wallen have all decided in recent years not to have their music considered as well.

Read Mason Jr.’s full statement below:

I am saddened to hear that BTS has chosen not to participate in the Grammy Awards process this year, but as a music creator, I understand and respect their decision.

I do want to clarify something that seems to be getting lost in the conversation. The Asian Pop category was created to celebrate the depth, diversity and extraordinary growth of pop artistry coming out of Asia. The spirit of this new category is to shine a dedicated spotlight on these important artists. More categories mean more artists’ work is recognized. It’s never to divide, but to expand who is recognized by our 15,000 Grammy voters.

I also want to be very clear: submitting music in a genre category such as Asian Pop, or Jazz or Country does not exclude an artist from also submitting and being considered in the General Field categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Those categories remain open to any eligible recording, regardless of genre. Recognition in a genre category and recognition in the General Field are not mutually exclusive. An artist can absolutely pursue both.

The Grammy organization is here to serve music and all the people who make it. As we continue to expand the reach, our membership and our awards, regardless of geography or language, I want to emphasize that we will continue to listen to the global music community and work to honor and celebrate all the artists whose music moves the world.”

  • Supernatural Reality Competition Korean Series ‘House of Fates’ Greenlit as ‘Battle of Fates’ Spinoff at Disney+

Supernatural Reality Competition Korean Series ‘House of Fates’ Greenlit as ‘Battle of Fates’ Spinoff at Disney+

Disney+ has greenlit “House of Fates,” a spinoff of the record-breaking Korean competition series “Battle of Fates,” from the original show’s producer and writer.

The new series, shot on location in Korea, is fronted by the three top-placing fate readers from “Battle of Fates,” joined at points by other contestants from the original cast. The format sends its participants around the country to sites tied to Korean spiritual practice, where they take in ceremonies, regional customs and communal meals.

Along the way, cast members sit for personal fate readings and open up about relationships and losses in their own lives, then move into direct contact with shamanic ritual, a practice the format positions as central to Korean spiritual life.

“Battle of Fates” premiered on Feb. 11 and became the No. 1 series premiere on Disney+ Korea based on views in its first 12 days. The competition series featured masters of shamanism, tarot, face and foot reading, saju and other divination disciplines competing in challenges that tested their abilities, using tools including fans, bells, dowsing rods and modern-day laptops.

Local adaptations of “Battle of Fates” are also in development in other markets. “House of Fates” is the first spinoff greenlit by Disney+ since the original series premiered.

“Battle of Fates” Season 1 comprises 10 episodes, all available to stream on Disney+ alongside other Korean variety titles including “I Am Boxer,” “The Zone: Survival Mission” and “My Name Is Gabriel,” starring Blackpink’s Jennie.

Disney+ has not yet revealed a release date for “House of Fates.”

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Aims to Make Box Office History as It Targets High-Flying Opening

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Aims to Make Box Office History as It Targets High-Flying Opening

Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks to close out the month with a big swing, as Sony Pictures‘ latest superhero feature with Tom Holland and Zendaya eyes an astronomical opening weekend at the box office.

With Universal’s The Odyssey having enjoyed quite the successful box office journey without major new competition for the past two weeks, Peter Parker and his pals are poised to land the year’s biggest debut and potentially one of the top-grossing openings ever. The studio is projecting a domestic opening of $195 million from 4,300 North American theaters, which is also in line with third-party tracking services.

This would top last month’s launch for Disney‘s Toy Story 5, which opened to $159.6 million domestically, to make Spider-Man: Brand New Day the biggest debut of 2026. This would also put it in the top 10 for domestic opening weekends, topping 2019’s photorealistic The Lion King remake, which holds the No. 10 launch at $191.7 million. The last time a title opened above $200 million domestically was two years ago with Deadpool & Wolverine at $211.4 million. (The record goes to Avengers: Endgame’s wild 2019 opening of $357.1 million.)

Sony projects Spider-Man: Brand New Day to add $270 million from international markets for a global start of $465 million, including a strong showing in China. This would give it the studio’s second-best launch behind Spider-Man: No Way Homes heroic opening of $600.5 million in 2021, and it would best Spider-Man 3′s $381.6 million start from 2007.

Spider-Man and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

    Jay Maidment/Sony Pictures

Exhibitors are certainly clamoring to show director Destin Daniel Cretton‘s new Spider-Man film, which centers on the title hero living a lonely existence without his loved ones before a dangerous new foe targets him. Hailing from Sony and Marvel Studios, Brand New Day accounts for 49 percent of this weekend’s showtimes as of Wednesday, according to the Boxoffice Company, as opposed to the 22 percent that The Odyssey held when it opened two weekends ago to $124.5 million domestically for the third-biggest 2026 launch to date.

Word of mouth could push the Brand New Day opening much higher, as the film is already off to a flying start with critics. Also starring Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo, it holds a 91 percent approval rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes. That puts it within similar range of the franchise’s other recent offerings, including 2018’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at 97 percent and Spider-Man: No Way Home at 93 percent. In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney writes that Brand New Day “foregrounds the humanity that has always been Spidey’s greatest strength,” and he praises “a never-better Tom Holland.”

Indeed, some analysts are predicting that the buzz around the release will carry Spider-Man: Brand New Day far beyond $195 million. It remains to be seen whether the $260.1 million domestic opening sum for No Way Home, the previous live-action Spider-Man release, could potentially be within reach. Granted, that one had the benefit of the buzz surrounding the return of previous Peter Parkers in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, not to mention that the release faced no real competition and marked the first post-COVID theatrical visit for many moviegoers who were starved for entertainment experiences.

Notably, there has been recent debate about audiences tiring of franchise offerings, given the underperformance of titles from both the superhero variety (June’s Supergirl) and otherwise (May’s The Mandalorian and Grogu). And yet, this weekend is poised to prove that the filmmaking teams have done an admirable job of handling Marvel Comics’ crown-jewel hero. As Fandango director of analytics and Box Office Theory founder Shawn Robbins tells THR, “Tom Holland, Sony and Marvel Studios’ run of films has remained remarkably fresh, thanks to thoughtful timing and stories that continue to connect with audiences in both new and familiar ways.”

He continues, “They’ve consistently met — and often exceeded — expectations, anchored by the kind of character-driven storytelling and big-screen spectacle audiences want from Spider-Man. It’s as much a gold standard as any for how to keep a massively popular character relevant and endearing to multiple generations of moviegoers.”

As for Holland, whose first leading role as the character came with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, it appears likely that Sony will have more chances to continue its winning streak. “It has been the gift of my life,” the actor — who also appears in The Odysseytold THR at the Brand New Day premiere in Los Angeles about playing Spidey. “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me. So if this movie does good, I guess we’ll see!” Yes, we will.
