A British woman taken from her home by a gang in Malawi has been rescued following a deadly shootout.

Nusrat Osman, 47, was snatched from her home in the southern city of Blantyre a week ago when masked men forced their way in.

She was traced to the outskirts of the city, and a rescue operation was launched yesterday after a days-long search that saw a reward of £12,800 being offered for any credible information.

The suspected kidnappers were armed with an AK-47 and a pistol, according to the police.

Officers exchanged fire with those inside the building, killing four men who are yet to be identified.

Osman was reunited with her family, and taken to hospital for treatment and mental and physical check-ups after the ordeal.

Malawi Police Service said in a statement: ‘The criminals got shot and were rushed to the hospital where they succumbed to the injuries.’

Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kayira was also shot and injured during the rescue, and was taken to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The 47-year-old, who works as an auditor, had moved to the southern African country with her family from Leicester after her husband set up a business there.

Authorities have not publicly revealed how they found out where the woman was kept.

The motive for the abduction has also not been publicly shared at this stage.

Atupele Muluzi, a Malawi politician, said in a statement: ‘It is with great relief and gratitude that I share the news that Mrs. Nusrat Jiwa Osman, who was reported missing, has been found.

‘It is understood that the rescue operation was extremely dangerous

‘The family has expressed profound appreciation for the professionalism, dedication, and incredible bravery of the Malawi Police Service throughout this ordeal, particularly Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr. Noel Kayira.’

Muluzi, the President of the United Democratic Front, has said that kidnappings and abductions are becoming more common in Malawi, where the incidents were previously ‘largely unheard of.’

Her husband told local media in the aftermath of the kidnapping he doesn’t know where she is or how she is.’

‘‘My wife is an auditor and I have no issues with anyone,’ he told Nyasa Times.

A spokesperson for UK Foreign Office told Metro: ‘We are pleased that a British woman who was abducted in Malawi has been released and reunited with her family.

‘We thank the Malawian authorities for their efforts to secure her release.

‘We continue to provide support to her and her family.’

  • Cryptocurrency Management Company Grayscale Announces that the Impact of the FED Interest Rate Hike on the Crypto Market May Be Limited!

Cryptocurrency Management Company Grayscale Announces that the Impact of the FED Interest Rate Hike on the Crypto Market May Be Limited!

Crypto asset management company Grayscale assessed that the impact of the US Federal Reserve’s (Fed) recent interest rate hike on the cryptocurrency market may be limited. The company viewed this move as an interim adjustment within the current economic cycle, noting that it does not signify the beginning of a new interest rate cycle.

Grayscale pointed out that a similar interest rate hike occurred in 1997. According to the company, the 1997 interest rate increase had a limited impact on asset markets. Based on this historical example, it was stated that the latest interest rate increase is not expected to lead to a large-scale change in the cryptocurrency market.

However, the company stated that investors should focus more closely on stablecoin issuers. Grayscale’s assessment highlighted companies like Circle and Tether, primarily because interest income from reserve assets constitutes a significant portion of their revenue structure.

Rising interest rates can contribute to increased interest income earned by stablecoin issuers from the assets they hold in their reserves. Therefore, there can be a direct correlation between the profitability of these companies and interest rates.

Grayscale’s assessment indicates that the Fed’s monetary policy decisions do not affect all actors in the crypto market in the same way. While changes in interest rates can affect the pricing of Bitcoin and other risky assets, stablecoin companies managing large reserves may have a different revenue dynamic.

The company stated that in assessing the impact of the recent interest rate hike on crypto assets, macroeconomic conditions as well as developments in the stablecoin sector should be monitored.

David Stone declared the projector “offers a watchable image that’s acceptable for movies in the backyard or for ad hoc setup indoors.” With just 1080p resolution and 170 lumens of brightness, it can’t compete with ambient light, but once the sun is down, it handles itself well enough. The easy-to-use streaming platform is one of the biggest draws of this unit, which we reviewed positively and praised for its good value for the price in terms of image brightness and clarity. While its 330 ANSI lumen brightness can’t compete with more expensive units, it blows other budget models out of the water, and autofocus and automatic four-corner keystone correction add to its appeal.

This spectacular portable unit delivers such exceptional picture quality that you could just install it permanently in your home theater and nobody would know any better. The Anker Nebula X1 received an Editors’ Choice award in our review, with PCMag expert M. David Stone saying “it has genuinely impressive automated setup features for image size and geometry after moving it from one room to another, and specs that boast high brightness and a level of color accuracy usually reserved for dedicated home theater models.” He did notice that it was a bit heavy for a portable unit, and fairly pricey, but this Amazon discount drops it to the lowest we’ve ever seen it on sale. With tons of connectivity options, a liquid cooling system to reduce fan noise, and a luxe 14-element all-glass lens, the Nebula X1 is worth every penny.

It’s a spendy one, but the EpiqVision Ultra LS800 is a great pick for a TV replacement, as it delivers top-tier performance across all of the important metrics. We gave it an Editors’ Choice award in our review, raving over its ultra-bright laser-phosphor light source that pumps out 4,000 ANSI lumens, more than enough to use it easily in a well-lit room. The three-chip LCD delivers rich, realistic colors without any rainbow artifacts, and the input lag is some of the lowest we’ve tested, hitting just 11.7ms at 1080p resolution. This massive discount on a top-flight Awol Vision projector will be the cornerstone of your home entertainment system. The LTV-3000 is a marvel of lens construction, able to blast out an 80-inch image on the diagonal from just six inches away. It doesn’t skimp on picture quality, either, with full 4K resolution, support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and solid colors thanks to a tri-laser light source rated for over 25,000 hours of use. It’s not the most user-friendly projector on the market, with a relatively obtuse Android TV install powering it, but the image looks good right out of the box, and you have multiple connectivity options, including three HDMI ports and great 3D performance.

Hisense PX1-PRO TriChroma Laser Cinema Projector

Walmart has the best price anywhere on this excellent all-in-one home entertainment box that combines a rippingly high-quality 4K projector that looks great on screens up to 130 inches in diameter with a TV tuner and built-in Android TV streaming. In our review, it easily took home an Editors’ Choice award, as we loved the impressive 2,200-lumen light source using Hisense’s TriChroma laser engine, sharp focus, and good color accuracy. Connectivity is also extensive, with support for high-speed HDMI, a pair of HDMI 2.1 inputs, and eARC. If you dislike rainbow artifacts in your projected images, they’re barely noticeable thanks to the speed with which the three colored lasers alternate. Our only real complaint was that there’s no native Netflix app installed.

    FAQ

What Are the Different Types of Projectors?

Digital projectors create images using three primary types of technology. The most basic, DLP (which stands for digital light processing), has an array of minute mirrors inside the lens to transform white light into other colors. 3LCD projectors use a trio of LCD screens, one for each primary subtractive color. Liquid crystal on silicon, or LCoS, uses an active-matrix display on a silicon backplate for the most accurate colors, although it is significantly more expensive.

What Should I Look for in a Projector?

The two most important metrics for a projector are brightness and resolution. Brightness is measured in lumens, with a larger number being better. However, projectors typically have two distinct brightness numbers, one for white light and one for color. Images may appear dull if the color rating is lower than the pure white rating. Resolution determines the number of pixels the projector uses to create the image. 1080p high definition is the most common. For best results, match your projector resolution to the image source.

What Is the Best and Cheapest Projector?

We’ve put together a robust rundown of the best projectors on the consumer market, covering a wide range of uses, from large units to anchor a home theater to portable models for movies on the go. That frequently updated rundown lists our current top pick, but there’s no single best and cheapest projector for everyone. You should look for one that is fast enough for casual gaming, is bright enough for movies, and has decent built-in speakers if you won’t attach it to an external sound system.

We’ve also seen some excellent projectors from Xgimi, Epson, LG, and many other brands sell for their low prices, too. Mini projectors are also a cheaper option most often due to the compromises in bulb brightness. Check out In our rundown of the best portable projectors to learn more.

Do I Need a Screen for My Projector?

In general, although you can cast an image from a projector on any wall or surface, it’s not going to look as good as if you use a nonreflective white screen designed for that purpose. There are many different types of screens on the market, some for permanent installs, and even some that are inflatable for easy setup and storage. While they’re not strictly required, they definitely make your viewing experience better. Here’s our handy guide for how to choose the right screen for your projector.

    How Do We Test Projectors?

The short answer? Thoroughly. When we test projectors, be they data projectors, home entertainment projectors, or home theater projectors, we give the units a 30-minute warm-up time while running through preliminary setup steps before performing extensive picture quality tests. And that’s just the start! Dive into any of our reviews to see how deep we go.

  • Dolly Parton Posthumously Accepts Americana Award in Newly Released Video Recorded Before Her Death: ‘Just Know That I Will Always Love You’

Dolly Parton Posthumously Accepts Americana Award in Newly Released Video Recorded Before Her Death: ‘Just Know That I Will Always Love You’

In the video, Parton says ,”Well, hey, it’s Dolly, and I am so honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association. I mean, roots music, or what is now called Americana music, is what I grew up playing back in the Smoky Mountains. It’s that same music that drew me back to East Tennessee back in 1997 to write and record my album ‘Hungry Again.’

“And that project really opened the door to a series of bluegrass and acoustic albums that changed the course of my career in so many ways. Now, new fans discovered these albums, new Americana music communities embraced them, and now, looking back at it all, I see this era of my career as a musical renaissance of sorts.”

She concluded, “And I want to thank everybody at the AMA for recognizing me with this award. It’s a great honor, truly. And just know that I will always love you.”

Parton receiving the lifetime achievement award was announced just this month, but obviously long in the works. The existence of the acceptance speech was a surprise to the audience, as was the musical performance that followed.

On the red carpet, Carlile told Variety, “Dolly’s being honored this year, and that makes me feel really good to be able to be there and bear witness to that.”

In her introductory speech, Harris — who collaborated with Parton on the hit “Trio” album, along with Linda Ronstadt — explored her legacy.

“Just a few weeks ago, something utterly unthinkable happened: Dolly Parton left our world. But over her time here, this tiny, extraordinary woman made it a better, brighter and kinder place,” Harris said to applause.

“One of the many pearls — Dolly would call them rhinestones — of wisdom she imparted was her four-part motto: dream more, learn more, care more, be more,” Harris continued. “Dolly was more from the very start. More than the odds anyone gave her growing up in poverty in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, the fourth of 12 children. More than the precocious 10-year-old who sang on a local TV show. More tha just another pretty woman moving to Nashville with her guitar. And certainly more than the ‘dumb blonde’ she sang about, but never was.

“In 1967, Dolly got a good start on her big dream when she landed a gig as the girl singer with Porter Wagoner. All right, remember those? Their duets were a hit on the show and on the charts, but Dolly was nobody’s sidekick. She wanted more and she deserved more, and she set out to get it, always, always, on her own terms. And we all know what happened when Dolly set her sights on something. She didn’t just succeed, she expanded the borders of what a musician could be.

“She was a country star, then a pop star, then a global icon. She was one of our all-time greatest songwriters, but she shined just as brightly on stage. She lit up the TV screen and then she lit up the movie screen. Her stunningly beautiful, pure mountain voice could make us cry and then crack us up with a well aimed, sometimes bawdy joke.

“There was nothing Dolly couldn’t do, and so she did it. She opened Dollywood, a theme part that continues to provide a real economic boost to the area she grew up in… She created a relief fund that helped hundreds of families get back on her feet after the wildfires ravaged east TN a decade ago. well all remember those. And she saved lives all over the world by funding research that helped lead to a COVID vaccine. Yeah, man, she did that. Closest to her heart was her Imagination Library. it’s given out more than 300 million free books just so far, and that’s showing kids all over the country that they can dream more and be more.”

Saying goodbye before the video rolled, “Farewell, Dolly, godspeed, and thank you for everything.”
