New ‘Longlegs’ Movie Set for 2028 Release

Paramount has set a return to the world of Longlegs. The feature will bow on Jan. 14, 2028, the studio revealed Monday.

Filmmaker Osgood Perkins is back to write and direct the new movie, with star Nicolas Cage returning. The film is not exactly a sequel, but described as something in the Longlegs universe.

Released in July 2024, Longlegs established Perkins as a name brand horror filmmaker, with the project grossing $128 million worldwide on a budget of less than $10 million. Neon released the first movie, with its marketing campaign cited as a blueprint for how to build anticipation for a spooky movie. Maika Monroe starred as an FBI agent investigating murder-suicides linked to a serial killer nicknamed Longlegs, played by Cage

That a new Longlegs movie would exist was a surprise when The Hollywood Reporter revealed the news last month. Also a surprise: that the franchise would move from Neon to Paramount. Sources previously told THR the indie outfit stepped aside as the project’s budget was above its norm, and Paramount stepped in, as horror is a priority at the studio.

Perkins has stayed in business with Neon elsewhere, where he has a first-look deal and directed The Monkey, Keeper and his upcoming movie The Young People, which is expected in theaters this year and stars Nicole Kidman, Lola Tung and Nico Parker.

Producers on the new Longlegs movie include Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Perkins, Chris Ferguson, Dave Caplan and Cage.
