Michael Douglas, Willem Dafoe Reunite with Oliver Stone for Drama ‘White Lies’

Oliver Stone has quietly wrapped production on drama White Lies, and a few key past collaborators have revealed to be part of the cast.

Michael Douglas, who starred in Stone’s Wolf of Wall Street, and Willem Dafoe, who appeared in the filmmaker’s Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July, are on the cast list, it was announced Wednesday.

Also on the call sheet were Ellen Barkin and Homer Gere, all who joined the previously-reported Josh Hartnett, who is toplining the indie, and Yvonne Chapman. The feature marks the first narrative movie in over a decade.

“The cast was a delight from beginning to end. And the Italian crew was the warmest I ever worked with. I’m profoundly grateful for this opportunity,” said Stone in a statement.

Written and directed by Stone, the movie is described as being an intimate and provocative drama that explores family, loss, pain and uncovers how love can change shape during our lifetimes.

Per the producers, Lies is told across three generations and “follows Jack Freeman (Hartnett), a child of divorce now repeating his parents’ mistakes in his own marriage and with his own children. Feeling trapped, he embarks on a lust-filled journey to escape—only to find himself more lost than before. When he meets a woman, whose life is the opposite of his own, he begins an unexpected journey on the path of rediscovery.”

Fernando Sulichin is producing alongside Maximilien Arvelaiz and Jordan Gertner for Sulichin’s New Element Media. The company previously backed Stone movies Savages and Snowden.

Tarak Ben Ammar and Gianluca Leurini of Eagle Pictures and James Packer and Jose Luis Manzano are executive producing.

“We are immensely proud of what Oliver, his cast and crew have accomplished,” said Sulichin in a statement. “It was thrilling to reunite Oliver with Willem and Michael, two extraordinary actors who starred in his iconic films Platoon and Wall Street respectively, and to see him work with Ellen, whom he has known and admired for many years. It has also been a joy to see Oliver work with the amazingly talented Homer and Yvonne for the first time. We look forward to bringing this film to audiences worldwide.”

Douglas’ last major big-screen outing was Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania while Dafoe’s recent credits include Wes Anderson’s Phoenician Scheme and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu.

Barkin recently appeared in Netflix’s The Out-Laws with Pierce Brosnan while Gere, the son of Richard Gere, had a stint on Euphoria.

Douglas is repped by UTA and Manatt Phelps while Dafoe is repped by WME, Circle Management + Production.

Barkin is repped by CAA, Bond Artist Management and Del Shaw while Gere is repped by WME, Brookside Entertainment and Jackoway Austen.
