A man fell to his death during Saturday night’s Goose concert at Madison Square Garden, according to the NYPD and reports about the incident.
The 51-year-old concertgoer fell from high-section seating in the arena, according to concertgoers on social media and in reports.
Police officers, responding to a 911 call, found the man “unconscious and unresponsive” inside the arena shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday night, the NYPD said in a statement. He had “injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position” and was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the statement continued.
In a statement posted to social media early Sunday morning, Goose said it was “deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight’s show.”
“We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected,” the band continued. “Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support.”
A number of concertgoers posted about the incident on Reddit, claiming the man fell from the 300 level to the 100 level.
“[I] was eight seats away. Heard it and saw it. MSG gave us wristbands for pit and we dipped,” one attendee wrote on Reddit.
The concert continued after the incident and the band performed its full set, finishing at midnight, according to reports.
Saturday’s show was the second of a two-night run at the Garden for the Connecticut jam band, which is on tour across the U.S. and Canada through November. Its next show is set to take place Sunday night at SummerStage in Central Park.
The Saturday night concert was also livestreamed on Amazon Music.
