Chinese Drama ‘My Dearest Stranger’ Secures Asia Deals (EXCLUSIVE)

My Dearest Stranger,” the Chinese crime-mystery romance series that has accumulated more than 270 million views on Youku since its February premiere, has closed distribution agreements covering Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Macao, along with a worldwide airline rights deal.

Handled internationally by Hishow Entertainment, the series ranked No. 1 across multiple daily charts during its initial local run. Hishow has been fielding sustained interest from Southeast Asian buyers off the back of that performance.

Centering on the concealed truths beneath a seemingly ideal marriage, the series layers psychological suspense over its romantic drama, building toward a reckoning that upends the central relationship.

The cast is led by Bosco Wong (“The Queen of News,” “Golden Brother,” “Heart of Greed”), Wang Luodan (“Caught in the Web,” “The Dead End”) and Yuan Hong (“Nirvana in Fire,” “Black Dog”). Direction is by Yu-Hsien Lin, a Golden Horse Award winner. The title marks Wong’s first television series since he took home the TVB Best Actor Award earlier this year.

“‘My Dearest Stranger’ has connected really well with audiences in China, and we are very encouraged by the response from international buyers,” said Lebin He, international sales executive at Hishow. “What draws audiences into this romance is the unsettling question at the heart of every intimate relationship: can you truly trust the person sleeping beside you? Secrets exist in almost every relationship, and the fear of what may be hidden beneath the surface is universal. These emotional and psychological elements are what have helped drive the series’ success.”
