Production has wrapped on “See Bot Run,” a horror-comedy mockumentary from Pluto Labs Films starring “Adults” breakout Amita Rao.
“See Bot Run” follows “the overworked and underpaid employees of a struggling tech startup on the day of a high-stakes AI product launch that could make them millions,” per the official logline. “But when the company’s secretive invention begins turning against them, the staff finds itself trapped in a chaotic fight for survival…at least until the checks clear.”
“On the surface, ‘See Bot Run’ is a chaotic workplace horror-comedy, but at its core it’s about people who feel trapped inside a system that only values them when they’re useful,” said writer and producer Kevin Noonan in a statement. “The rise of AI and the culture surrounding it made the story feel even more relevant while we were making the film.”
Directed by James Slaven, Rao plays Deena, an “overeager and underappreciated” intern at the tech startup.
“What I love about Deena is that she’s trying so hard to succeed in a system that barely notices her until everything starts falling apart,” said Rao in a statement. “The fundamental grapple between pursuing system-based validation and following what you know is right is one that Deena’s young, innocent heart was maybe not quite yet prepared to confront.”
“See Bot Run” also stars “Deli Boys” actor Jake Prizant as the company’s CEO and “The Whitest Kids U’Know” actor Sam Brown as a veteran sales rep “watching the company unravel in real time.”
Behzad Dabu (“How to Get Away with Murder,” “The Chi”), Jordan Stafford, Max Lazerine, Annie Sullivan, Dani James, Rogue Schmidt, Zoe Agapinan and George Elrod make up the film’s ensemble cast.
“Everyone has experienced some version of this workplace, from impossible deadlines to inflated executive egos, and exhausted employees pretending everything is under control,” added Slaven in a statement. “The horror and comedy both come from pushing that reality just far enough over the edge.”
“See Bot Run” recently wrapped filming in Chicago and is currently in post-production. The film is independently produced through Pluto Labs Films.
