“Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” is bringing in a new star for Season 4 — and saying goodbye to an original cast member.
Variety has learned that Luke Kirby is joining the Citytv series, while series star Aden Young is departing the show. Young has been a part of the series since it launched in the role of Detective Sergeant Henry Graff. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Young and the production are parting on amicable terms.
Kirby joins the show as Detective Sergeant John Darcy. It is said that the character “is called up from Guns & Gangs to partner with Detective Sergeant Frankie Bateman (Kathleen Munroe) in Homicide.”
“From the moment we began imagining this next chapter, Luke stood out as the ideal choice. He brings a sharp intelligence and emotional depth that perfectly aligns with the kind of storytelling ‘Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent’ is known for,” said Tassie Cameron, executive producer on behalf of Cameron Pictures. “His work is grounded, unpredictable, and deeply character-driven, which makes Detective Darcy an immediate and fascinating presence on our team. We’re incredibly excited to welcome him to the series.”
Along with Monroe and Kirby, Season 4 stars Karen Robinson, K.C. Collins, Nicola Correia-Damude, and Araya Mengesha. It is currently in production and is expected to debut this fall on Citytv.
The series is produced by Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures Inc. in association with Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Citytv, a subsidiary of Rogers Sports & Media.
Kirby received three Emmy nominations, winning once, for his role as iconic comedian Lenny Bruce in the hit Amazon comedy series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Recent credits include the Apple TV series “The Last Thing He Told Me,” fellow Amazon show “Étoile,” “Dr. Death” at Peacock, and “The Deuce” at HBO.
He is repped by Gersh.
