  • French President Emmanuel Macron Calls on YouTube to Finance Content and Warns of Growing Threat to Cultural Model (EXCLUSIVE)

French President Emmanuel Macron Calls on YouTube to Finance Content and Warns of Growing Threat to Cultural Model (EXCLUSIVE)

French President Emmanuel Macron said the Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, which he co-chaired with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Monday, was deliberately held at a moment of dramatic upheaval for the entertainment business, from the growing dominance of YouTube and TikTok to AI and media consolidation.

Speaking to Variety at the event, he pointed to the growing power of YouTube, TikTok and other social platforms as one of the reasons the timing was right for the landmark gathering devoted to the future of cinema and the moving image.

“YouTube is very efficient. It’s de facto the default platform in a lot of countries for a lot of people. And it’s quite clear that today they divert a lot of people from these platforms or the big channels where a lot of money is invested in creation,” said Macron at the Fondation Maeght, a French art foundation showcasing works of art from Georges Braque to Joan Miró, nestled amid a luxuriant forest.

He argued that YouTube, which is currently outtalking Netflix in over 20 international markets, should increasingly be brought into the same ecosystem as other global platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney, that have been required to invest in local production.

France and other countries need to “engage with them” in a multilateral way, he said, to try to change the platform’s approach so that it helps finance “local content,” while supporting “more creativity, more creations, more respect of the authors.”

Macron, who’s been a driving force behind the rise of French AI companies, including Mistral, as well as the creation of the EU’s AI Act and the international summit on AI that was held last year, also said France wanted to compete aggressively in AI by expanding computing capacity, data centers and European models. But he insisted that technological ambition must be accompanied by protections for intellectual property and much greater transparency.

Asked about his discussions about EU regulations with companies such as Google or OpenAI, Macron said that while France is eager to compete in the AI race, it’s also pushing for greater transparency and protections for creators in Europe.

“When you have content produced by AI, you just have to know it. So transparency for us is key,” he said. “We want to flag when the content is produced with AI. Because we think it’s fair.”

Without that, Macron warned, AI could “totally transform the relationship to truth,” feeding distrust not only in creative content but in science and democracy.

Macron also addressed the increasing consolidation of the entertainment business and his discussions surrounding the greenlighting of the Paramount-Warner Bros. deal by the EU regulators. He said he didn’t have an active role in lobbying for the merger, but admitted that he supported “the commitments made to invest more in Europe and to create more content and to provide guarantees and commitments vis-à-vis our theaters.” Paramount Skydance boss David Ellison traveled to Paris (as well as London and Germany) in January and met with Macron, among other high-level political and industry figures.

The French President described the merger case as fundamentally “a U.S. M&A story,” saying his priority was ensuring that a major company like Paramount Skydance maintained a strong footprint in France and Europe. While Ellison wasn’t present at the Lumiere Summit, Paramount Skydance’s Andy Gordon was there and sat at Macron’s table at lunch, alongside The Walt Disney Company’s Dana Walden, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, NBCUniversal Entertainment’s Donna Langley, Mediawan’s Pierre-Antoine Capton and Sony’s Tom Rothman, among others.

“What is important to us is to make sure that you will still finance creation, that you will still work with us, that you will still make more movies in France and in Europe,” he said.

The Summit is also being held on the last stretch of his second mandate as he is due to leave office in May. With the far-right and far-left parties dominating polls ahead of the next presidential election, the French film and TV industry has shared deep concerns over the future of France’s prized cultural model that could come under threat.

Asked what would survive beyond 2027, Macron pointed first to France’s international tax credit for international movies and TV series, which was recently strengthened with the inclusion of above-the-line costs and has helped draw a growing number of major U.S. and international productions to the country.

“We improved tax credits, international tax credits. If somebody wants to withdraw this tax credit, it will just kill the industry and a lot of opportunities,” said Macron, who had told Variety in a cover interview in 2024 that he would fight for “Emily in Paris” Season 5 to remain in the French capital, prompting a comedic feud with the Rome mayor. Besides the sixth and final season of “Emily in Paris,” “The White Lotus” season 4 is also currently shooting in France.

He also pointed to the investment made during his presidency in studios and production infrastructure as part of his France 2030 plan, which he said has turned France into a leading international shooting destination.

“We want more of them to make new movies in our country. Why? Because it’s good for our ecosystem,” he said. “It will hire a lot of technicians and actors and so on. It will show our landscapes, and it will create jobs during the movie is made and it will attract a lot of people in our landscapes and our cities and so on.”

Yet, Macron suggested the bigger battle after his departure could be over the foundations of France’s cultural policy itself.

“Some extremes are fighting very hard against the CNC (National Film Board) and what we call this exception culturelle and the DNA of the French model,” Macron said. France’s system, developed over decades, uses levies on cinema admissions that are collected by the National Film Board and re-injected into local production, alongside other schemes supporting independent producers, filmmakers and theaters.

“We have to be ready to resist because this model has been created during decades by a lot of artists, by the state and the different governments and it’s extremely important,” he said.

Ultimately, Macron tied the defense of the French model not only to jobs and filmmaking but also to the country’s soft power.

“Culture and art is part of what France is, but it’s part as well of our soft power outside,” he said. “Recognizing that art is an exception which requires specific investment of the government, diversity of people, players, authors, protection of their rights and a specific effort in terms of multilateralism is crucial.”

  • Worldcoin up 13% as AI coins awaken – Can WLD stay above $0.45?

Worldcoin up 13% as AI coins awaken – Can WLD stay above $0.45?

Worldcoin [$WLD] rallied by more than 13% in the past 24 hours, doubling its weekly profits to over 26%. The altcoin has been, on average, bullish over the past 30 days, with gains exceeding 50% as of press time.

The altcoin is surging amid renewed interest in AI despite a massive token unlock. Here are the bullish signals that outweighed the unlock’s selling pressure:

    Why is Worldcoin rallying?

Renewed interest in AI was evident not only in Worldcoin but also in Near Protocol [NEAR], Bittensor [TAO], Injective [INJ], and Internet Computer [ICP]. They all recorded double-digit gains from a similar time scale.

The buying activity was evident in the reading of the Spot Taker CVD of the past three months. This metric had flipped green in the last two days of August, indicating buyer dominance.

    Source: CryptoQuant

Additionally, the Long/Short Ratios on Binance and OKX were all above 1.70. The Top Trader Long/Short ratios for accounts and positions are 1.93 and 2.11, indicating large players were invested.

As a result, this buying volume forced a spike in liquidation of leveraged shorts, wiping out more than $1.20 million in 12 hours. Such activity accelerated the rally. On the other hand, only $490K in long orders was liquidated.

$WLD price breaks out—Is a market structure shift unfolding?

Apart from leveraged buying and short liquidations pushing $WLD higher, its technical outlook was also aligned.

The altcoin broke above the $0.41-$0.45 zone, which is the most recent lower high. It was also the neckline of an inverted head-and-shoulders pattern. The breakout hinted at a potentially shifting market structure.

Therefore, $WLD’s bullish target areas would be $0.55 and above the true close at $0.67. But that would only happen if bulls could keep the altcoin above the supply zone, which closes at $0.45.

    Source: $WLD/USDT on TradingView

However, the RSI divergence was still having a bear signal even though its reading at 67 was above the neutral level. The reading indicated the selling pressure was yet to be exhausted.

Why could this rally be a dead cat bounce?

The selling pressure still exists after the scheduled unlock of 69 million $WLD tokens on the 7th of September, valued at $28 million. This amount is only a fraction of 87 million tokens set for September.

This selling pressure puts the rally at risk.

    Source: Tokenomist

On top of that, the market structure was yet to be confirmed, as the price was ranging around $0.45.

    Final Summary

    • Worldcoin surges by more than 13% amid AI coins’ awakening, buying activity, and short liquidations.
    • $WLD’s bulls attempt to break past $0.45, which would confirm a bullish market structure shift on the daily chart.

Ethereum News: Abraxas Capital Buys 13,000 ETH

Traders scanning the order books got a surprise when Abraxas Capital bought 13,000 $ETH, valued at $32.39 million, to hedge its substantial short position of 141,180 $ETH, worth $353.27 million. This strategic move, highlighted by CryptoTwitter commentator @lookonchain, demonstrates a significant shift in trading tactics within the Ethereum market, suggesting that traders may be preparing for increased volatility ahead.

    Breaking It Down

Ethereum commands a significant portion of the tokenized commodity market, currently holding 65.7% of the total market. Despite this dominance, recent shifts in trader sentiment indicate a growing uncertainty regarding its future ranking among cryptocurrencies. The latest purchase by Abraxas Capital signals that institutional players are actively adjusting their strategies in response to market dynamics, potentially foreshadowing increased volatility in Ethereum’s price action.

    Key Details

    • Abraxas Capital bought 13,000 $ETH for $32.39 million. The firm is hedging against a short position of 141,180 $ETH worth $353.27 million. This transaction occurred on Hyperliquid, indicating active trading strategy adjustments. The purchase reflects broader trends in Ethereum trading as market sentiment shifts. This move may influence other institutional traders’ strategies moving forward.

    The Numbers

The broader crypto market exhibits mixed signals, with Ethereum’s price remaining stable despite fluctuations in sentiment. The recent acquisition by Abraxas Capital suggests that there may be underlying factors influencing trader behavior. As the market continues to react to external pressures, Ethereum’s current trading volume remains low, indicating a cautious approach among market participants. Despite this, the ongoing adjustments by institutions like Abraxas Capital could lead to shifts in momentum in the near future.

Ethereum is a leading platform for smart contracts and decentralized applications, making it a critical player in the crypto ecosystem. The trading decisions of firms like Abraxas Capital highlight the competitive nature of the market and the need for strategic hedging to manage risks effectively.

    What Traders Are Watching Next

Traders are advised to monitor Ethereum’s price action closely, particularly as institutional interest continues to evolve. The recent purchase by Abraxas Capital may foreshadow increased volatility as traders reassess their positions. Key levels to watch include support and resistance zones that could dictate future price movements as the market reacts to ongoing shifts in sentiment and strategy.

The crypto market is volatile, and predictions are subject to change.

Maria Bartiromo’s Fox Exit “Self-Inflicted Wound”; Trump Praises “True Warrior” As Legal Threats & Accusations Of Host Sharing Insider Info Fly

EXCLUSIVE: The coup de grâce that caused Fox to announce this week that Maria Bartiromo would “no longer be with” the conservative news outlet was a case of “very bad judgment” and a long time coming, sources say.

The assertions come Friday despite Bartiromo’s Hollywood attorney Bryan Freedman insisting the veteran Wall Street anchor is still “an employee” of Fox and threatening legal action. Adding to the burgeoning media mess surrounding the so-called “Money Honey,” Donald Trump had thrown serious shade on Fox for taking good pal Bartiromo off the air.

That shade could set the stage for yet another showdown between Trump and his once favorite media buddies at the Murdoch-ruled Fox.

“I can’t believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business,” Trump, a frequent Bartiromo guest, posted Thursday night, about 12 hours after Fox announced “effective today” that the Mornings With Maria host was out. “Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior. Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria!”

Bartiromo hadn’t been on the air for almost a month, with Deadline confirming that Fox brass had enough of the MAGA-friendly Bartiromo after they learned she passed corporate-guidance missives to the White House in recent months. However, carving her own way at Fox Business and Fox News for more than a decade, those communications were just the latest minefield that Fox execs feared could blow up in everyone’s faces.

“Her indiscretion was just the latest in a series of self-inflicted wounds,” a cable news insider says of Bartiromo and her close ties with Trump. “This has been a concern for a while, Maria being too cozy with the White House. She crossed a line, and she’s suffered the consequences.”

Weary of addressing allegations of similar conduct over the years by Sean Hannity and other Fox hosts, or Bartiromo’s contract specifics, the source added: “She’s no longer with Fox. Take that for what it is.”

Deadline hears that while there may be “technical truth” to Freedman’s remarks today that Bartiromo still works at Fox because of contracts and other paperwork, she is not returning to her Fox Business or Fox News roles — full stop.

Long a passionate defender of POTUS and offering him a platform over the years, Bartiromo’s apparent sharing of internal edicts with Trump administration officials, first reported by Status, made her pink-slipping inevitable.

Digging a little deeper and a few years back, the seeds of Bartiromo’s downfall were evident if you connect the red string.

In April 2023, Fox agreed to pay $787 million to settle a lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems, one of the technology firms singled out in Fox’s coverage of the 2020 election results. Citied in volumes of court filings and the high-stakes trial that had just begun when Fox settled, Bartiromo was one of the main hosts on Fox promoting the false claims of irregularities with the election Trump lost and Joe Biden won. At the time, the top-rated Tucker Carlson was pulled off the air at Fox in a move that resulted in a Freedman-handled legal dust-up between Carlson and the media company.

No word from ex-Apprentice host Trump if Bartiromo is in the running to be the new White House Press Secretary, but sharp-elbowed lawyer Freedman says his client actually isn’t looking for a new job because she still has her old one.

“For many years, Maria Bartiromo hosted three number one rated television shows on Fox channels,” Freedman said Friday, as my colleague Dade Hayes noted earlier. “She has been, without question, one of the hardest working journalists throughout her award winning career.”

The lawyer for the likes of Carlson and Megyn Kelly, as well as Don Lemon, then unsheathed the knife that may lead to a bloody affair down the line.

“The irresponsible reports that have been published stating that Maria Bartiromo was fired or is no longer an employee of Fox are absolutely and unequivocally false,” Freedman said. “Make no mistake, we have the receipts and witnesses and they will come out whether through the courthouse or otherwise. Those reporting her firing or the incredulous facts supporting that fiction have exhibited a complete and utter reckless disregard for the truth.”

When Deadline asked Fox for a response to Freedman’s statement about his client’s employment situation, the company said: “the release speaks for itself.” The White House did not respond to Deadline’s request for comment.

We have a full review of DirecTV’s service that gives you the complete rundown of how it works and what you can expect to pay, but the short version is this: it’s one of the best cable replacements out there, with huge access to local and national channels. It doesn’t require a satellite dish or any additional hardware, instead using your home Internet connection for high-quality streaming to up to 20 devices. Video quality uses an adaptive bitrate that peaks at FHD, but it’s reliable and speedy. You also get access to DVR functionality that lets you save games and shows in the cloud to watch later, which is something many other live TV streaming services can’t offer.

Instead of making you pay for a ton of channels you won’t watch, DirecTV has split up its offerings into “Genre Packs,” which focus on different programming niches. MySports is the genre pack that focuses on live sports events and analysis from all over the world. Channel coverage varies depending on your geographical area, but one of the biggest advantages is the company’s partnership with RSNs (regional sports networks), entities that carry all of the games for local teams. Depending on ESPN and other national channels to get every game from your favorite team is a gamble, so access to these RSNs is a huge boon for hardcore fans.

For the first month, you’ll pay only $49.99 for access to a panoply of live sports channels both local and national. You also get a free month of MySports Extra, which adds even more programming from NFL RedZone, MLB Strike Zone, Willow TV, and other niche networks. DirecTV also offers a no-questions-asked money back guarantee for the first five days, so you really have nothing to lose.

  • Portuguese Artists Drop Out of Jerry Seinfeld-Headlined Festival

Portuguese Artists Drop Out of Jerry Seinfeld-Headlined Festival

Multiple acts participating in a comedy festival in Portugal, the inaugural MEO Commedia a La Carte Fest (Lisbon International Humour Festival), have announced that they are no longer participating.

Actress Inês Aires Pereira announced on Saturday that her show Namastê was being removed from the festival‘s lineup and explained her reasoning being that “one of the names insistently defends ideas and acts that I consider indefensible.” She also added in her social media post: “We cannot relativize or normalize a genocide.”

Her statement did not explicitly identify any particular act that she was referring to.

The comedy duo Cebola Mol, made up of Eduardo Madeira and Filipe Homem Fonseca, also announced on Saturday that they too would not be performing in the festival.

“We will celebrate justice, freedom and joy with you on another occasion,” they wrote on social media.

Other acts to withdraw from the festival include concert “Tributo Pop” (Carolina Deslandes, Tatanka and Bárbara Tinoco), the group Conjunto Cuca Monga, comedian Pedro Tochas and visual artist Vhils (Alexandre Farto). Reasoning was not publicly revealed.

The first edition of the Lisbon International Humour Festival will take place from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.

American comedian Jerry Seinfeld is headlining the festival.

The comedian has openly supported Israel amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. When announcing their exit from the upcoming festival, Cebola Mol shared an illustrated photo of themselves and a watermelon, which is recognized as an unofficial symbol for Palestinian solidarity. The fruit’s colors notably match the Palestinian flag.

Seinfeld recently received backlash for his comments last year while appearing at a Duke University event, where he compared the Free Palestine movement to the Ku Klux Klan.

“Free Palestine is, to me, just — you’re free to say you don’t like Jews,” Seinfeld said, according to The Chronicle, Duke University’s student newspaper. “Just say you don’t like Jews. By saying ‘Free Palestine,’ you’re not admitting what you really think. So it’s actually — compared to the Ku Klux Klan, I’m actually thinking the Klan is actually a little better here because they can come right out and say, ‘We don’t like Blacks, we don’t like Jews.’ OK that’s honest.”

The Chronicle quoted a University spokesperson who noted, “Duke does not preview the remarks of speakers who are invited to campus, and the invitation of speakers to campus does not imply any endorsement of their remarks.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to reps for Seinfeld and the Portugal festival for comment.

The entertainment industry has been increasingly vocal about the Israel-Gaza conflict, with calls to remove certain actors from projects including Kevin Zegers from Heated Rivarly, and mounting criticism directed at individuals expressing opposing views on the issue. Two actors recently withdrew from the production of Right Before I Go at the Soho Theatre over Dame Maureen Lipman‘s public comments about Israel and Palestine. A petition for Macklemore to be removed from Ed Sheeran‘s tour has also spurred after the artist yelled “Free Palestine“ while performing at the MetLife Stadium.

Liam and Noel Gallagher Soak Up London Love at U.K. Premiere of ‘Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger’

Fresh from a historic appearance at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday night, Liam and Noel Gallagher jetted back to London just in time for Monday’s U.K. premiere of Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the music duo turned up fashionably late to the Cineworld theater in Leicester Square. Liam pumped his fist in the air with an arm wrapped around Noel, who could only smile at the fervent reaction around them.

By the time the rock legends arrived, the black carpet was empty, aside from the herd of photographers and screaming fans.

Written by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight, the two-hour movie on their globe-spanning reunion tour last year combines concert film, backstage documentary and an unusually intimate portrait of the Gallagher brothers’ famously volatile relationship.

Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace followed the duo across 12 concerts on three continents during the Live ’25 tour, capturing previously unseen rehearsals, backstage and onstage footage.

Knight, Southern, Lovelace and the producers joined the Gallaghers for a short introduction before the screening. Though they didn’t speak — bar Liam’s “story of my fucking life” over a faulty microphone — the siblings had made quite the entrance.

“I hope that people watch this and maybe think about someone they haven’t spoken to for a while,” said Knight, referring to the brothers’ notorious feud that kept them out of contact for 15 years. “It’s about the story of these two, the story of the band, but it’s much more than that. And people who watch it… You can hear people getting emotional about it. […] It’s an emotional film. It’s meant to be emotional,” he added. “Be prepared, it’s really good.”

The event was teeming with an eclectic group of stars, from Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten and soccer player Jack Grealish, to TV presenter Vernon Kay and prolific film producer Andrew Macdonald. Also in attendance were Liam and Noel’s children, including Lennon, Anais, Donovan, Sonny, Molly, and Gene, rooting for their rockstar fathers.

Disney will give Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger a limited theatrical run, with the film opening in select Imax and U.S. cinemas on Sept. 11. It will then stream later this year on Hulu in the U.S. and exclusively on Disney+ internationally.
