‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Star Justin Berfield Tells Paparazzi to Leave Dewey Actor Eric Per Sullivan Alone After He Turned Down the Reboot: ‘I Actually Feel Bad’

Malcolm in the Middle” star Justin Berfield, who plays Malcolm’s older brother Reese, told the “Howie Mandel Does Stuff” podcast that he feels bad that his former co-star, Erik Per Sullivan, was thrust back into the public eye even though he declined to return for the recent series revival.

When asked if Sullivan regretted his decision not to appear in “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,” Berfield said, “No. I know they asked him a whole bunch. They asked him like four or five times, and every time he was like, ‘No.’”

“He’s a good guy, and I love Eric,” Berfield added. “I actually feel bad because he wants to stay out of the business and I’ve been seeing paparazzi shots of him. And I’m like, just leave Eric alone. He didn’t want to come back to the show. No hard feelings.”

Sullivan, who played Malcolm’s youngest brother Dewey, was the only original star not to return for the reboot. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark took his place in the role.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, “Malcolm” star Jane Kaczmarek, who played Sullivan’s on-screen mother, said the show offered him a serious payday for his return, but he still declined.

She said Sullivan is “studying Dickens and is an incredible student. They offered him buckets of money to come back, and he just said, ‘No thank you.’”

The “Malcolm” revival sees Frankie Muniz’s titular middle child all grown up with a kid of his own. The show picks up as Malcolm is sucked back into his family’s orbit when his father, Hal (Bryan Cranston) and his mom, Lois (Kaczmarek), demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party. All episodes are available to stream on Hulu.

  • Institutional money is coming for bitcoin, but Adam Back says it moves slower than you think

Institutional money is coming for bitcoin, but Adam Back says it moves slower than you think

The arrival of Morgan Stanley at the U.S. spot bitcoin ETF party earlier this month was characterized by some observers as the catalyst that will end the current crypto bear market thanks to the massive distribution power of the Wall Street wirehouse’s $8 trillion advisory network.

Not so fast, said Blockstream CEO Adam Back, an early contributor to the Bitcoin community and recently tipped by the New York Times to be the cryptocurrency’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, an assertion he denies.

The bitcoin ETFs could be the single most important development of recent times when it comes to positive market signals, more so even than a pro-crypto U.S. administration, Back said, but it takes longer than most people realize. It won’t be immediate.

“I think what people may have miscalculated is that institutional adoption is very slow,” said Back in an interview with Coindesk. “So the ETFs got bought, but when BlackRock is saying they recommend 2% to 4% allocation in their general stock portfolio, the fund managers haven’t done that yet. And they will, but it’s slower than people anticipate.”

Investors don’t just pile in overnight, he said. A build-up could take a year, even 18 months.

“Some of that stuff is just starting to happen, and it will happen slowly. So I think there’s a tailwind.”

Founded in 2014 by Back and other prominent Bitcoin developers, Blockstream offers retail and institutional clients self-custody wallets, layer-2 network settlement and asset issuance. Back is also the CEO and co-founder of BSTR, a bitcoin treasury company looking to go public via a SPAC merger with Cantor Equity Partners (CEPO).

    The Trump effect

While ETFs may trump the government for boosting the industry, there’s still a regulatory influence. Consider President Donald Trump’s crypto-friendly term and compare it with the previous administration’s Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Chair Gary Gensler’s assault on the industry.

Instead, the U.S. now has a presidency that not only introduced a new legislative framework for crypto, but even launched its own token shop.

“They’ve definitely improved the open-for-business framework in the U.S., which has indirectly encouraged other jurisdictions to do likewise,” said Back, who lives in Malta. “So the U.K.’s FCA [Financial Conduct Authority] finally approved ETFs for retirement accounts and things. And I think maybe one or two other countries. They look at each other.”

While Donald Trump’s America may be open for crypto business, the now-established bitcoin TFs have the power to transcend administrations, whether Republican or Democrat, Back pointed out.

“One of the reasons to suppose the ‘open for business’ is going to stay, even as you get new administrations, is that now Black Rock and the other ETF providers are going to defend their business,” he said.

“They’re going to apply a banking lobby to say they make a lot of money from the bitcoin ETF. We don’t want you to interfere with it. And so I think that now bitcoin has new allies in Black Rock, Morgan Stanley and Fidelity and all these guys.”

    Four-year cycle

Another pricing factor to consider is bitcoin’s cyclical nature, a historical pattern driven by the quadrennial halving event, which cuts the supply of new tokens by 50%. The reduction often leads to a relatively consistent bull run followed by a bear market/recovery period.

Even if the four-year cycle is breaking, as some commentators believe, there’s still the reasonable possibility of a price slide happening simply because “people expected it to happen. So they sold and they made it happen,” Back said.

That logic is likely to change only when people see strength in the market, he said. That’s now coming in the form of institutional flows, such as the ETFs, sovereign and sovereign wealth fund investments, and investors buying bitcoin directly or shares in bitcoin treasury companies such as Strategy (MSTR), formerly called MicroStrategy.

“They are growing their ability to buy bitcoin in different market conditions,” Back said. “MicroStrategy, particularly, has been having an accelerated success with their Stretch kind of fixed-income product. So they’ve been able to use that to buy a lot of bitcoin, and it’s escalated even in the last few weeks. So those recurring buyers plus new institutional and wealth management buyers will eventually overwhelm the sellers.”

Strategy’s Stretch (STRC) is a perpetual preferred stock designed as a high-yield, bitcoin-backed income instrument.

    Quantum-tative

As well as fielding inquiries about his identity, Back has also been answering a volley of claims about quantum-computing hardware progressing faster than expected and its power to break Bitcoin’s cryptography.

“People are trying to say it’s a factor,” Back said of quantum technology’s effect on the price of bitcoin. “But I think there’s a lot of information asymmetry in these markets, meaning that things which you think are perfectly clear are confusing to some other people, and their uncertainty impacts their decisions.”

That said, the recent round of quantum doomsaying may have institutions paying a bit of attention, Back conceded.

“Institutions are more systematic about risk,” he said. “So if there’s a tail risk, even a small one, they want to know that it’s covered. For retail investors, it sounds like something in the distant future that perhaps they’re not really worried about. But institutions will think a decade ahead and ask, ‘Is this 1% risk? Is there an answer to it?’ They’ll check stuff like that.”

  • MarsCat and XDGAI Forge Alliance to Pioneer Decentralized AI Infrastructure

MarsCat and XDGAI Forge Alliance to Pioneer Decentralized AI Infrastructure

The combination of decentralized ledgers and artificial intelligence is no longer just a possibility; it’s already happening and has become an emerging area of growth for the global digital economy. MarsCat has entered a strategic alliance with XDGAI, a company focused on developing decentralized-based AI infrastructure. The goal of their partnership is to integrate XDGAI’s proprietary Neuronal Economic System (NES) into MarsCat’s privacy-centered decentralized network, resulting in a shift toward more autonomous, scalable and privacy-based computing networks.

Integrating the Neuronal Economic System (NES)

The collaboration between XDGAI and Mars gathers momentum through the integration of XDGAI’s NES (Neuronal Economic System) into the existing infrastructure of MarsCat. The NES acts as the ‘Nervous System’ of the AI Network, regulating the allocation of resources and controlling the interaction of network Nodes with no central government or authority.

Utilizing a federated learning approach to connect the many different sources of data in a distributed fashion allows for AI to train on these many different sources of decentralized nodes without needing to pass local data samples to each other. This technical partnership also enables compute power to be allocated in an efficiently distributed manner while ensuring that the root models are maintained. Ultimately, the goal is to shift away from the “black box” methods used by centralized AI entities and provide an ecosystem that is transparent and continuously adapting.

    Privacy-First Compute and Token-Driven Incentives

A major challenge that has faced AI development is the enormous need for data and how it frequently overlaps with end user’s right to privacy. MarsCat’s privacy-first approach will help to tackle this challenge by enabling cross-modal AI – which allows for the secure processing of many forms of information such as text, images, and sensory data – across a distributed environment.

In addition, using a token-based incentive system to support this enterprise will allow all the companies involved in the collaboration to earn tokens for their participative activities such as providing computing power (nodes), and creating a closed-loop economic model.

This pattern is increasingly being adopted across the industry to provide more equitable access to high-end GPU and CPU resources. These resources are currently concentrated in the hands of a small number of large technology companies.

    Building the Foundation for “Web4”

The announcement emphasizes a vision for Web4; a new term that describes an entirely symbiotic web of interaction between AI and humans using decentralized protocols. This vision fits into the broader trends across the industry where AI is becoming the primary method of accessing and interacting with blockchains.

The current growth of decentralized sports and creative platforms has placed increased demand for specialized integrations into Web3. MarsCat and XDGAI have focused on building the infrastructure layer, or “plumbing,” for consumer-facing applications in decentralized sports and creative markets. This focus plays a crucial role in ensuring the long-term viability and scalability of these decentralized ecosystems.

Decentralized AI’s ability to succeed depends on how quickly they can be processed regarding the user’s privacy. While centralized AI products are typically faster, the federated learning model as developed by XDGAI continues to offer an improved solution that complies with legal expectations of data sovereignty within most countries.

    Conclusion

The partnership represents a measured stride forward in achieving a sustainable AI future. The combination of transparency from using blockchain technology with the advanced processing abilities of cross-modal AIs addresses the challenges of scalability and data ethics. Furthermore, it is an indication to the greater Web3 marketplace that the most profound innovations are occurring at the intersection of computing and decentralization.

    APRIL 28, 2026 / 9:40 ET

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs can close out the Trail Blazers in the nightcap of tonight’s action on ESPN.

    Portland:

    • PG Scoot Henderson
      • The No. 3 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft was held scoreless in Game 4. He dropped 31 points in the Trail Blazers’ sole win in the series in Game 2.
    • SG Jrue Holiday
      • The 17-year veteran is 58-43 all-time in the NBA Playoffs. He’s averaging 18.5 ppg, 5.3 reb and 7.3 ast in this series, showing his longevity.
    • SF Deni Avdija
      • Avdija has shot 36 of the Trail Blazers’ 81 FTA in this series, providing consistent downhill pressure on his way to 22.3 ppg.
    • PF Toumani Camara
      • The Belgian wing has only cracked double-figures once in this series — 10 points in Game 3. That’s well below his season average of 13.4 ppg.
    • C Donovan Clingan
      • The former UConn center is shooting just 28.4% from the field so far this series, as he deals with the length of Victor Wembanyama.

    San Antonio:

    • PG Stephon Castle
      • Clingan’s former point guard with UConn went off in Game 3 without Victor Wembanyama, dropping 33 points. His two-way impact can rival the best in the league.
    • SG De’Aaron Fox
      • Fox is playoff-tested, having gone up against the Warriors in a seven-game classic in 2023, averaging 27.4 ppg in the series. He’s putting up 20.0 ppg for the Spurs so far this series.
    • SF Devin Vassell
      • Vassell is shooting just 33.3% from 3-point range so far this series, but continues to drop 13.2 ppg.
    • PF Julian Champagnie
      • Champagnie has made up for that — he’s knocking down 57.1% of his 3-pointers in this series.
    • C Victor Wembanyama
      • The Alien returned with a bang in Game 4, putting up 27 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks. He’s looked very comfortable in Playoff action.

Watch Dylan Harper off the Spurs bench — he and Stephon Castle joined Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook as the only duos to score 25+ points while 21 years of age or younger in Game 3.

    APRIL 28, 2026 / 9:34 ET

    Sixers win, force Game 6

We’re headed back to Philadelphia, as the Sixers rose up in the second half to defeat the Celtics 113-97.

Joel Embiid (33 pts) dominated the Celtics’ front line, while Tyrese Maxey (25 pts, 10 reb, 5 ast) and Paul George (18 pts, 9 reb, 7 ast, team-high +19) filled in the gaps.

Quentin Grimes (18 pts, 4 3PM) added firepower in 24:04 off the Sixers’ bench.

Jayson Tatum (24 pts, 16 reb) starred for the Celtics, while Jaylen Brown (24 pts) contributed.

But Payton Pritchard (12 pts) was the only other player to reach double figures, as the team shot just 28.2% from 3-point range.

    APRIL 28, 2026 / 9:27 ET

    Philly stepping on the gas

111-96 Sixers with 2:16 to go in the fourth quarter, as they fought to extend their season.

They’ve earned a 61-39 advantage in the second half.

    APRIL 28, 2026 / 9:25 ET

    Knicks lead at the half

CJ McCollum and the Atlanta Hawks are back in Madison Square Garden tonight on NBC and Peacock with their series against the New York Knicks tied 2-2.

    Atlanta:

    • PG CJ McCollum
      • McCollum was held to 17 points after earning the respect of the Madison Square Garden crowd in Game 2, but it’s been a great series for him. He’s averaging his highest PPG (24.5) since helping take the Trail Blazers to the Western Conference Finals in 2018-19 (24.7).
    • SG Nickeil Alexander-Walker
      • Alexander-Walker hasn’t had his breakout game yet in this series, scoring 13.8 ppg, below his season average of 20.8.
    • SF Dyson Daniels
      • The defensive dynamo from Australia has a series of tough matchups in this series. Can he out-hustle Josh Hart, OG Anunoby or Mikal Bridges?
    • PF Jalen Johnson
      • Johnson was held to 14 points on 33.3% FG shooting in Game 4. The Hawks were 4-7 when he scored 14 or fewer this season.
    • C Onyeka Okongwu
      • The sixth-year center from USC is shooting 50% on four 3PA per game this series. Watch his long-range attempts.

    New York:

    • PG Jalen Brunson
      • Will the Hawks look to put a bigger defender on Brunson? Jonathan Kuminga has held him to four points on 1-of-5 shooting on 46 possessions so far this series.
    • SG Josh Hart
      • Hart is shooting just 13.3% from 3-point range this series.
    • SF Mikal Bridges
      • Bridges has seen his minutes decrease in the last two games, playing just 40 over Games 3 and 4, with Miles McBride getting most of the time.
    • PF OG Anunoby
      • The Anunoby-Johnson matchup is crucial in this series. The wing from Indiana has defended Johnson throughout, and outplayed him to the tune of 22 points and 10 rebounds in Game 4.
    • C Karl-Anthony Towns
      • Towns is averaging 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds against Atlanta, shooting 57/50/92 from the field. He leads the Knicks at +46 in this series.

    • SF Kelly Oubre Jr.
      • The swingman is always a thorn in the side of the Celtics.
    • PF Paul George
      • Can the future Hall of Famer outplay Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown with the Sixers’ season on the line?
    • C Joel Embiid
      • Embiid is 3-13 against the Celtics in his Playoff career.

    Boston:

    • PG Derrick White
      • White is always a steadying influence for Boston. Can he help contain Tyrese Maxey while finding offensive opportunities?
    • SG Jaylen Brown
      • Brown leads the Celtics in free throws attempted (29) during this series. His steady downhill pressure is key.
    • SF Sam Hauser
      • Hauser is shooting 45.5% from 3-point range this series. He can change a game quickly from deep.
    • PF Jayson Tatum
      • Tatum is 15-5 against the 76ers in his Playoffs career.
    •  C Neemias Queta:
      • Queta has faced foul trouble in each of the last two games. With Joel Embiid back, Boston will also look to Nikola Vučević to battle in the post.

  • In One of His Last Interviews, Eric Dane Discussed Shooting “Drunk” ‘Euphoria’ Wedding Scene Amid ALS Battle

Euphoria fans now know which season three scene the late Eric Dane joked about in an interview before his death.

Before the actor died on Feb. 19 following his battle with ALS, he sat down with the nonprofit I AM ALS and opened up about filming a wedding scene in the Sam Levinson-created show’s new season. However, fans had little context for the sequence in question until episode three, titled “The Ballad of Paladin,” aired Sunday.

The episode centers on Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) wedding, which sees Nate’s parents, Cal (Dane) and Marsha (Paula Marshall), in attendance. During the reception, Cal, appearing in a drunken state, gives a rambling wedding speech. Cal also reconciles with his past and apologizes to Jules (Hunter Schafer) for filming her while underage as well as shares that he’s now a registered sex offender following a past arrest.

“I had a wedding sequence I had to shoot, the reception. And it’s written that I’m wasted, sloshed, drunk for this entire reception. And I was like, people are going to think I’m brilliant,” Dane previously quipped to I AM ALS. He added with a laugh, “Because I already sound like I’m drunk. I don’t need to act.”

ALS is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, according to the Mayo Clinic. It leads to muscle weakness, with slurred speech being a common symptom.

Following Dane’s death, Levinson shared in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric. Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing.”

The official Instagram accounts for Euphoria and HBO Max also wrote in a joint post at the time, “We are deeply saddened by the news of Eric Dane’s passing. He was incredibly talented and HBO was fortunate to have worked with him on three seasons of Euphoria. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

  • Stephen Colbert Says He Made ‘The Late Show’ More Political After His Producer Told Him ‘That’s the Part the Audience Wants to See’

Stephen Colbert Says He Made ‘The Late Show’ More Political After His Producer Told Him ‘That’s the Part the Audience Wants to See’

Stephen Colbert recently told The New York Times that, after an uneven first couple of months of “The Late Show,” his producer encouraged him to lean back into his political roots.

Colbert said at first, the plan was to back away from politics after his transition from “The Colbert Report” to “The Late Show.” He explained to NYT, “It was my instinct to be less topical, because I didn’t want to have to engage with what I saw was an increasingly contentious public discourse. And I thought, ‘Aren’t there other ways to have fun with the audience?’”

But then, the 2016 national party conventions gave Colbert the opportunity to push hard on political humor. The late-night host said during that time, he felt like “Clint Eastwood in ‘Unforgiven,’ or is it some other movie? He buried his guns. And I’m like, you know, I buried those damn guns. I was talking to Paul Dinello — he’s one of my oldest friends and one of my producers here — and he’s like, ‘You’re having fun, and people love to see that.’ And I said, ‘But that means I got to go dig up the guns.’ And he says, ‘Buddy, that’s the part the audience wants to see.’”

Colbert will soon air his final episode of “The Late Show.” His home network, CBS, announced the end of the historic late-night program in July of 2025, citing the move as “a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.” Some have speculated that CBS ended “The Late Show” to curry favor with longtime critic, President Donald Trump, who, through the FCC, could’ve stopped a then-pending merger between CBS’ parent company, Paramount, and Skydance.

Colbert told The Times that, although he does “make jokes” about CBS’ ulterior motives, he does “not dispute their rationale” for ending “The Late Show.”

“It’s possible that two things can be true,” Colbert said. “Broadcast can be in trouble. They cannot monetize because of things like YouTube, because of the competition of streaming. They’ve got the books, and I do not have any desire to debate them over what they say their business model is and how it does not work for them anymore. But less than two years before they called to say it’s over, they were very eager for me to be signed for a long time. So, something changed.”

  • Roger Sweet, Creator of He-Man, Dies at 91

Roger Sweet, Creator of He-Man, Dies at 91

Roger Sweet, the creator of the He-Man action figure, which spawned the popular ‘80s cartoon series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” died on Tuesday after a battle with dementia, TMZ reports. He was 91.

Sweet was the lead designer for Mattel’s Preliminary Design Department in the ‘70s and ‘80s. In 1976, Mattel turned down a deal to produce toys for “Star Wars,” an offer that proved extremely lucrative for Cincinnati-based toy maker Kenner Products after “A New Hope” was released in 1977. After the fact, Mattel struggled to launch a popular action figure based on original IP. Enter Sweet, who, in pursuit of a fresh idea, experimented by gluing a Big Jim action figure into a fighting stance and adding clay to its body for bulk. This became the prototype for He-Man, which he successfully pitched to then CEO Ray Wagner. He-Man officially hit markets in 1982.

A year later, in 1983, Mattel and Filmation launched the “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” cartoon as a companion project to the highly popular He-Man toyline. The show took place on the magical planet of Eternia and followed the young Prince Adam. When wielding the Sword of Power, Adam would utter the now-iconic line, “By the Power of Grayskull! I have the power,” which would turn him into He-Man, the galaxy’s most fearsome warrior. The show ran for 130 episodes from 1983 to 1985.

Amazon, MGM and Mattel will soon reboot the He-Man franchise with the upcoming action film “Masters of the Universe,” which hits theaters on June 5. Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man. Other cast members include Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn and Idris Elba and Man-At-Arms.

Sweet is survived by his wife, Marlene.
