Earlier this week, Apple announced two new members of the Mac family: a new Mac mini and a new Mac Studio. The news comes ahead of the Cupertino-based company’s thrilling September 9 ‘Surprise and Shine’ event, where we’re restlessly hoping Apple announces the iPhone 18 Pro, the long-rumored folding iPhone, and possibly even a next-gen Apple Watch. While nothing’s confirmed yet, at least we still have these new Mac systems to fawn over!
The new Mac mini will feature either the famously efficient M5 Pro chip or the brand-new, blisteringly fast M6 chip (which we can’t wait to get our hands on). It’s Apple’s smaller, more affordable desktop computer, and you can preorder the tiny five-by-five-inch PC starting at $899. The swanky new Mac Studio, on the other hand, is for top-of-the-line professionals and creatives. Rocking either the next-gen M5 Max or M5 Ultra chips, it starts at $5,499.
We’re buzzing at the idea of putting them through all our special tests and trials. But until their release on Tuesday, September 22, we’ll just have to sit tight and dream about the processing power!
Both of these brand-new, decked-out desktop computers are available for preorder, and—shockingly—there’s already a deal in sight: When you preorder the M6 Mac mini at Amazon, you can save $20. Not a huge dent by any means, but it’s still a few bucks cheaper than Apple’s $899 list price.
And if you like the idea of an Apple desktop gracing your home office, but don’t necessarily need the buff new chips, you might have a few other opportunities to save—especially if you wait for the actual release date. But since Apple already had to raise its prices due to the memory shortage, no one’s going to give you any side-eye if you opt for a slightly older or different model. So, if the 2024 iMac All-in-One Desktop Computer with the M4 chip strikes your fancy, you can score it for $75 off on Amazon right now!

When we reviewed the 2024 Apple iMac with M4, PCMag expert Brian Westover gave it a glowing “Excellent” review, celebrating its distinctive design, gorgeous display, and overall power, thanks to the M4 chip, which stood head and shoulders above its predecessors. He called it the “smartest iMac yet” and even gave it our Editors’ Choice award for consumer all-in-one PCs.
It might not be the next-gen Mac mini or Mac Studio, but it gets the job done—and this one comes with the screen! But if you’re looking for other options, check out our experts’ list of the best desktop PCs for 2026.
