NBCUniversal has greenlit Summer House Canada, the first international adaptation of the hit Bravo reality series, now ten seasons in stateside, with production underway in southern Ontario.
The 10-part Canadian version of Summer House from Vancouver-based indie Lark Productions will launch exclusively on NBCUniversal’s reality streaming platform Hayu in 2027. Mirroring the original format, Summer House Canada will bring together a group of friends escaping to a shared house on summer weekends, with no word yet on cast members for the local version.
The Canadian reality series promises the same blend of relationship, career and personal lives collisions — including whispers and stolen glances — that has made Summer House a hit on Bravo. The local version will take place amid forested landscapes and lakeside cottages in Muskoka, Ontario, where wealthy Torontonians get away to to escape the stress of big city life.
The southern Ontario region is also a major shooting location for movies and TV series, including Megan Park’s second feature, My Old Ass, from Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment production banner, Netflix’s series adaptation of The Hunting Wives, starring Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow, and cottage scenes in the popular gay hockey drama Heated Rivalry for Crave and HBO Max.
“We’re thrilled to bring this adaptation of the standout Summer House format to the market – and Muskoka offers the perfect, iconic Canadian setting to introduce Summer House Canada and build on the franchise’s momentum,” Hendrik McDermott, managing director, international DTC (director to consumer) at NBCUniversal, said in a statement on Thursday.
Summer House Canada follows Hayu earlier ordering its first original series, The Real Housewives of London, which was recently renewed for a second season. “Summer House has become a beloved global franchise known for its authentic friendships, big personalities and the unforgettable moments that come from spending a summer together. We’re excited to build on that by bringing the Canadian summer experience to fans worldwide,” Erin Haskett, President and Executive Producer, Lark Productions.
Lark Productions has longstanding ties with Universal Global Television via a first-look distribution deal, and recently has produced the Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent local adaptation and the original police procedural Allegiance via that partnership.
The Summer House franchise is distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group.
