Fremantle’s ‘The Uniform’ Returns for a Second Season – and Dives Into the Cracks Within the Police Force (EXCLUSIVE)

The Uniform” will return for a second season.

Currently showcased at Monte-Carlo Television Festival, the show premiered its first season on DRTV in 2026. Following a deal with Fremantle, it is now set to launch on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four in the U.K.

Set within a fiercely competitive police academy in Denmark, “The Uniform” stars Lene Maria Christensen – as the academy’s new principal – Marco Ilsø, Clara Rosager and Soheil Bavi, who called his role one of the greatest challenges of his career.

“I had to enter the mindset of someone, who, despite his good intentions, ends up with a human life on his conscience. Throughout the season Youssef carries the question of whether he is guilty of a crime or acted in self-defense, which brings guilt and responsibility into every scene.”

Creators and writers Oscar Giese and Anders August will return, as well as director Jonas Alexander Arnby.

“It’s truly wonderful to dive into another season where we can discover and unfold new layers of the characters previously hidden in the first season, and expand the complexity of carrying the weight of the uniform,” Arnby told Variety

According to Giese and August, their goal was – and is – to show how idealism clashes with reality.

“Our young characters are still in the process of finding their idealism and limitations, and the reality of the institution and the job,” they said in a joint statement.

The widespread negativity and criticism of the police institution all over the world is “the exact reason” they wanted to make the show.

“It aims to get us talking about the role of the police. In Denmark, the police is generally a trusted institution, but that trust is declining. So, there’s also a sense of exploring how we can avoid reaching a point where trust is completely lost.”

“The Uniform” is a “very, very heavily researched” show, with Giese and August deciding to talk to many trainees, teachers, police officers – and police critics.

“Considering the amount of criticism aimed at the police, we were actually surprised by how much the trainees ‘wanted to make the world a safer place.’ It’s not a well-paid job with much status. They were doing it for very different reasons,” noted the creators.

“That hope, naivety and idealism is what we want to challenge. Is it possible to keep it during their time at the academy and after, when they become fully fledged police officers?”

While the first season explored which characters could carry the weight of the police uniform, the second “dives into the cracks within the force,” challenging the characters’ moral compass.”

“There have been a few high-profile cases in Denmark, ranging from a street officer’s temptation of putting a bit of seized money in their pocket, to institutional negligence of certain cases. While we will meet new trainees and teachers in the second season, many of our cast will return to face dilemmas that test their loyalty to their colleagues within the force.”

Filming is set to begin in Copenhagen in spring 2027, with the series expected to premiere on DR in early 2028.

“The Uniform” is produced by Sofie Bergstein, Jonas Allen and Peter Bose for Miso Film, a Fremantle company. Fremantle handles international sales.

“One of the true strengths of ‘The Uniform’ is the diverse ensemble of characters carrying multiple storylines,” said Allen, claiming this resulted in 1.5 million viewers and a 47% share of TV viewing in Denmark. Bergstein pointed out that, thanks to its “authentic portrayal of youth and coming-of-age narrative,” it became the highest-rated show for DR in 2026.

Giese and August added: “With ‘The Uniform,’ we are fascinated by the dilemmas that arise when you become part of law enforcement. It’s a complex profession carrying great responsibility, which can be difficult to navigate, and this is a theme we will explore even further in the new season.”
