The creator and producing team behind Peacock‘s All Her Fault is getting back together for a new series at the NBCUniversal streamer.
Peacock has picked up The Break-In, a mystery based on the novel of the same title by Katherine Faulkner. The show comes from writer and executive producer Megan Gallagher and Carnival Films, who brought All Her Fault to life last year. The series starring Sarah Snook had solid viewing on Peacock was nominated for Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards for best limited series. Snook won the Critics Choice honor for best actress in a limited series.
“After the breakout success of All Her Fault, we knew we wanted to continue building on that creative momentum with Megan Gallagher and Carnival Films,” said Lisa Katz, president scripted content for NBC and Peacock. “The Break-In is exactly the kind of sophisticated, character-driven mystery our audiences are responding to right now — stories that tap into the zeitgeist by exploring the tension between perception and reality. Katherine Faulkner’s story is a compelling, addictive ride and a great example of the premium storytelling we’re continuing to build at Peacock.”
The Break-In tells the story of Alice Rathbone, who is the victim of a home invasion. She “refuses to accept that the tragic event was simply random,” the show’s logline reads. “Desperate for answers, Alice starts pulling at threads and soon finds a trail of dark secrets that spiral closer to home than she could ever have imagined.”
Gallagher is adapting the novel and will executive produce with Nigel Marchant and Gareth Neame of Carnival Films, Christine Sacani and Faulkner.
“It’s an absolute dream to see The Break-In being brought to the screen by this exceptional, world-class team whose passion for the story has been evident from the very beginning,” said Faulkner. “The Break-In is a story about motherhood, privilege and guilt, the devastating consequences of lies and the dark secrets that can exist beneath the surface of even the most seemingly perfect lives. I can’t wait to work with Megan Gallagher, Carnival Films and Peacock to bring these characters and their secrets to life.”
Added Marchant, “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Megan Gallagher and working alongside Peacock again. Katherine Faulkner has given us something genuinely propulsive to work with — a story that gets under your skin and doesn’t let go. We can’t wait to bring this show to life.”
Carnival Films is part of Universal International Studios.
