Taylor Swift Reuniting With Jack Antonoff For Country Track on ‘Toy Story 5’ Soundtrack

It’s a Toy Story, and Taylor Swift said yes. It’s official, the pop superstar is set to appear on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack.

After much speculation — along with a suspicious countdown on the singer’s website and billboards around several cities around the world — Disney and Pixar have confirmed that Swift is releasing a new original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for the film. The song, her first release since her record-breaking The Life of a Showgirl, is set to drop this Friday (June 5) ahead of the film’s June 19 release, the film studio announced Monday.

Swift reunites with her frequent collaborator and prolific producer Jack Antonoff for the single, which is “inspired by the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie’s ongoing journey in Toy Story 5 that began back in Toy Story 2,” according to a release. The song has been described as a return to Swift’s country roots.

“It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable,” the film’s director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton said in a release. “The song is so deeply connected to ‘Toy Story.’ So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”

Swift of course isn’t the first major musician to record a new song for a Toy Story soundtrack. Sarah McLachlan sang the heartbreaking “When She Loved Me” for Toy Story 2, while Chris Stapleton recorded “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” in Toy Story 4.

Swift and Toy Story fans alike will be able to purchase physical copies. Presales began today on Swfit’s website for three exclusive CD editions that feature the single, an acoustic version of the song and a special piano version.

Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19.
