Magic: The Gathering Unveils First Look at New Marvel Super Heroes, ‘The Hobbit’ Crossover Sets

Magic: The Gathering maker Wizards of the Coast unveiled multiple new card sets during its first day of MagicCon 2026 in Las Vegas Friday, including collaborations with Marvel and J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.”

The Magic: The Gathering-Marvel Super Heroes set (the latest addition to a long-time partnership between Marvel and the Hasbro-owned Wizards) will debut June 26, bringing “together iconic characters from across the Marvel Universe—from legendary heroes to world-threatening villains—reimagined through Magic’s gameplay.”

MCU star Paul Bettany, who plays The Vision in the modern day Marvel movies, graced the stage at MagicCon to unveil new card “The Mind Stone,” which “marks the next chapter in the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes journey.” Bettany also had the honor of adding a Mind Stone gem to a real-life version of the Infinity Gauntlet designed by East Continental Gems for Marvel.

Releasing Aug. 14, “The Hobbit” set will feature cards “from the time-honored tale, blending rich storytelling with strategic play as players adventure alongside familiar friends and formidable foes,” including the Gleaming Gold Smaug, the Magnificent headliner card, Middle-earth Classic Artist Cards, and Dwarven Language Cards.

Per the description for the set, “Journey from the Shire to the Lonely Mountain alongside Bilbo Baggins in a set that captures the whimsy and heart of one of fantasy’s most beloved adventures. Players will encounter trolls, ponder riddles in the dark, and come face-to-face with Smaug himself—brought to life through Magic’s gameplay and design.”

The Marvel and “Hobbit” sets are part of Magic’s “Universes Beyond” collection, which adds in third-party IP to the popular tabletop trading card game.

Also teased were MTG’s upcoming “Reality Fracture” set (“the epic conclusion of the arc that began in Wilds of Eldraine three years ago”), which will be released Oct. 2; a just-launched, brand-new trading card game called “Mood Swings” from Magic’s head designer Mark Rosewater; and a cat-themed new “Secret Lair” drop, which will debut June 15.
