“SNL U.K.” didn’t hold back from criticizing its American counterpart on Saturday night’s Weekend Update, roasting Shane Gillis‘ controversial hosting appearance.
After cracking jokes about everything from U.S. President Donald Trump’s recently fired press secretary to ridiculous claims that King Charles might be Muslim, co-host Ania Magliano turned her attention to Gillis. The comedian caused quite the stir last weekend for making misogynistic comments in his opening monologue as well as dropping the f-bomb live on air, which is not allowed per NBC guidelines.
“I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” Gillis said during his monologue. “You’ve seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial bait-colored [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole. And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look.”
Magliano riffed on this by saying: “A ride operator at Munich Oktoberfest was praised for giving out free cycling shorts to female riders. Wearing the gym shorts will protect women from being upskirted, but it does make them vulnerable to something much worse.”
A photo of Gillis during his monologue then appeared on screen, sparking laughter from the live audience.
Magliano then took aim at Gillis’ accidental f-bomb, subtly pointing out the fact that “SNL U.K.” is allowed to swear on air.
“Last week on ‘SNL,’ comedian Shane Gillis also caused controversy by dropping the f-bomb,” she said. “Oh, Shane. You’re not allowed to say that, you stupid fucking cunt.”
