Need More iPhone Storage? It Might Be Time to Upgrade to iCloud+

Your Apple account comes with 5GB of cloud storage for free. Don’t think that’s enough? It’s probably not. You could go through the trouble of freeing up storage space on your device, or if you consistently find yourself running out of room, it may be worth it to upgrade. Apple’s iCloud+ subscription offers expansive upgrade tiers and adds exclusive security and privacy features…for a price.

In addition to more cloud-based storage for all your photos and files, iCloud+ gives you access to Private Relay, Hide My Email, Custom Email Domain, HomeKit Secure Video, and Apple Invites. The plan is accessible from your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV, and can be shared with as many as five family members.

Apple’s file backup and syncing service comes in six different tiers. The base iCloud tier includes 5GB of online storage for free. You’re able to back up and synchronize your photos, email, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, messages, and other content online. If you’re looking to pay, you have five options:

Your plan also includes several enhanced features that are not available on the free tier.

Though it’s primarily for extra storage, iCloud+ also comes with a few bonus features. As long as you pay for one of the five premium tiers, you also get the following features available right from your Apple devices:

    • Private Relay: This is Apple’s take on a VPN aimed at keeping your internet activities private and protected when using Safari. However, it differs from traditional VPN services by replacing your IP address with one from a range of anonymous addresses based on your general region. Your internet traffic is sent through two separate hops, or relays, by two separate companies, so no single entity (not even Apple) can monitor your online activity.

    • Hide My Email: This feature is an improved version of the Sign in with Apple feature that lets you use an anonymous Apple ID to register with certain apps and websites. Whereas Sign in with Apple works only with supported apps and websites, Hide My Email allows you to use a random email address—using a private.icloud.com domain—for any website or online form to cut down on spam.

    • Custom Email Domain: Designed for anyone who already has their own personal domain name, Custom Email Domain allows you to send and receive iCloud Mail using your own domain name instead of an iCloud.com address. Apple’s iCloud Mail supports up to five personal domains, each with up to three email addresses.

    • HomeKit Secure Video: iCloud+ also has more options for those who use HomeKit Secure Video. The 50GB iCloud option supports one HomeKit Secure Video camera, while the 200GB tier supports up to five. Additional tiers offer unlimited camera support.

    • Apple Invites: Apple Invites allows subscribers to create event invitations through integrations with Apple Music, Maps, Weather, and Image Playground. You don’t need a subscription or Apple device to RSVP.

How to Purchase More iCloud Storage

To see how much iCloud storage you have, go to Settings on your phone, tap your name, then open iCloud to see your total amount of storage and what is already being used. If you’re on the free tier, you’ll see an Upgrade to iCloud+ button. If you’re signed up but need to add more space, tap Manage Account Storage under the iCloud storage graph and choose Change Storage Plan to pick a new tier.

What About the Apple One Bundle?

If you’re looking to consolidate your bills from Apple, it may be worthwhile to sign up for the Apple One bundle. This single subscription brings together iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+), and Apple Arcade. Apple One Individual costs $19.95 per month and includes 50GB of storage. If you have multiple family members, the Family plan is $27.95 per month and offers 200GB for up to five people. The Premier tier is $39.95 and kicks in 2TB of storage, plus Apple Fitness+ and Apple News+.

    Recommended by Our Editors

It’s a lot more expensive than the standalone cloud storage pricing, so if all you need is a few more gigs of space, this probably isn’t for you. However, if you’re already paying for Apple Music and Apple TV, it’s at least worth considering.

Share Your iCloud Plan With Family Members

If you’re subscribed to the 200GB iCloud+ or higher, you can share the plan’s benefits with other family members through the Apple Family feature. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings and tap your name, then open iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Share with Family. Tap Share Storage Plan and then select Send Invitation to compose a message that will be sent out to your family members.

As each person accepts the invitation, they’re added to your iCloud family. After your family members have joined, tap Family Usage on your Account Storage screen to see how much space each person is using for data backup and storage. Here, you can also choose to stop sharing your iCloud+ plan with your family.

Indian Epic ‘Ramayana’ Lands at Sony

Sony is bringing the story of the Ramayana to the world, with the studio landing global rights to the adaptation of the epic poem. That excludes India, where Ramayana producer Prime Focus Studios will release the film telling one of humanity’s oldest stories.

The news, and the film’s trailer, were revealed Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con. The epic poem centers on Rama, a prince who spends years in exile and whose wife, Sita, is kidnapped by the demon king Ravana.

Nitesh Tiwari directs the project, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi.

Prime Focus Studios’ Namit Malhotra produces and is known as the founder of the visual effects company DNEG, which has worked on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Interstellar and Tenet as well as all three of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies.

The Ramayana will be released in multiple languages across the world, including an English-language version, with the producers saying the intention since conception has been for it to reach a global audience.

The film boasts music from Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman; action choreography by Terry Notary and Guy Norris and production design by Ramsey Avery and Ravi Bansal.

“For generations, the Ramayana has inspired people through its timeless humanity and enduring values. Our ambition has always been to honor that legacy while creating a cinematic experience worthy of audiences everywhere,” said Malhotra in a statement.

Notably, the news comes as Nolan’s The Odyssey, a retelling of the greek epic, has been tearing up the global box office, marking Nolan’s biggest global debut and passing $300 million worldwide since its release a week ago.

  • New ‘Avatar’ Animated Series at Paramount+ Lands Fall Premiere Date, Releases Teaser

New ‘Avatar’ Animated Series at Paramount+ Lands Fall Premiere Date, Releases Teaser

The first new series set in the (animated) world of Avatar: The Last Airbender in more than a decade has a premiere date.

Paramount+ will debut Avatar: Seven Havens on Oct. 9, the streamer announced Thursday. The news came during a Comic-Con panel devoted to the feature film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which premieres on Paramount+ (and a handful of theaters for awards qualification) this weekend.

Seven Havens, from Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is set well after the events of sequel series The Legend of Korra. The show centers on a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar, but that “marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior,” according to the show’s logline. “Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

Along with the premiere date announcement, Paramount+ also released a teaser for Avatar: Seven Havens. Watch it below.

Seven Havens scored a series order in February 2025. It will premiere 21-plus years after the debut of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which ran from 2005-08 on Nickelodeon (and later spawned a live-action adaptation at Netflix) and 12 years after the end of The Legend of Korra, which ran from 2012-14.

The show’s voice cast features Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan, Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan and Dee Bradley Baker.

Nickelodeon and its Avatar Studios are producing Seven Havens, which has a 26-episode order. DiMartino and Konietzko executive produce with Ethan Spaulding. Sehaj Sethi is co-EP.

  • Chadwick Boseman Estate Battle Breaks Out Between His Parents and Widow Over Assets

Chadwick Boseman Estate Battle Breaks Out Between His Parents and Widow Over Assets

A legal fight has broken out over the administration of Chadwick Boseman‘s estate, with his parents looking to remove his widow from her role overseeing its assets.

Boseman’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn, accuse Simone Ledward Boseman of violating a court order mandating the distribution of funds and mismanaging the company that holds Chadwick’s rights and prior works. The petition filed in California state court asks to hold her in contempt and issue an injunction barring her from exercising unilateral control over estate property.

Boseman died in August 2020 from colon cancer without a will. Under California law, his estate was divided equally between Ledward Boseman and his parents, who each got 25 percent.

According to the petition, funds haven’t been fully disbursed. Ledward Boseman “has still not distributed the estate, nor has she filed a petition for discharge,” states the filing, which notes that she continues to exercise “complete control” while shutting the actor’s family out of decisions involving assets they also own.

There’s roughly $3.8 million in the estate, including cash, retirement accounts, a long-term care insurance policy and Chadwick Boseman Inc., the company that holds rights connected to the actor’s name and intellectual property.

The petition accuses Ledward Boseman of failing to transfer some of those assets owed to the family while neglecting to account for residual payments from SAG-AFTRA and a previously undisclosed bank account. The $40,000 insurance policy belonging to Carolyn under a 2022 court order, for example, was never distributed.

Also involved in the dispute: Boseman’s image and intellectual property rights. Those rights are managed by Chadwick Boseman Inc., with Ledward Boseman and the actor’s parents each owning 50 percent. The petition claims that Ledward Boseman has kept other family members in the dark regarding the company’s operations and appointed herself as CEO without holding board meetings. She’s allegedly used her control over the estate and the firm to enter into contracts assigning Chadwick’s rights and prior works, including a deal with Words + Pictures Productions for a documentary about the actor’s life. Another agreement involves a contract for production of “Deep Azure,” written by Chadwick.

“By holding herself out as the sole authority over Decedent’s assets, she is defrauding anyone she contracts with and puts those agreements at risk of recission,” the petition filed on July 17 states. “Meanwhile, Petitioners are blocked from pursuing lucrative business opportunities that might benefit Decedent’s elderly parents. Her continued control over the estate also sows distrust among the beneficiaries and harms the well-being of Decedent’s aging parents.”

In addition to seeking her removal as administrator, Boseman’s parent request an order requiring Ledward Boseman, who didn’t respond to a request for comment, to produce a complete accounting for every transaction made since she was appointed administrator in 2020.

  • Beach Boys Call Off Remainder of Summer Concerts ‘to Recharge’ Before Resuming in Fall

Beach Boys Call Off Remainder of Summer Concerts ‘to Recharge’ Before Resuming in Fall

The Beach Boys‘ endless summer has run into a hitch. The touring version of the group, led by sole remaining original member Mike Love, has called off six weeks’ worth of concerts scheduled for this summer, amounting to nearly 30 dates, citing the need to “recharge” before hitting the road again in the fall.

The cancellations and postponements cover the concerts that the band had scheduled from Thursday night, when they were to have played at Wolf Trap in Virginia, through Sept. 3, when they were scheduled to perform at the Colorado State Fair. The group — which for years has maintained one of the most active touring schedules of any name-brand act on the road — is now slated to resume its touring schedule on Sept. 24.

A message on Love’s Instagram page appeared alongside an illustration with the emblem “Gone Surfing.” It read: “Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year — especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of ‘Pet Sounds.’ We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September. All tickets for postponed performances (July 23 through September 3) will be honored following our return in late September. Please contact your local box office for additional information and questions. Thanks for your love — we can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember… We look forward to continuing our Endless Summer with you.”

The refreshed schedule on Love’s page shows 11 concerts slated for this fall or next year. Four of those were already on the group’s itinerary, while the other seven are rescheduled dates for shows that are being postponed. It’s not clear whether the nearly 20 other dates that are being called off in the summer schedule will also be rescheduled for a later date or not.

The Beach Boys have been touring with Love as the only remnant of the classic lineup since the retirement earlier this year of Bruce Johnston.

Another original member, Al Jardine, continues on the road leading his own group, billed as “Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band,” also playing the music of the Beach Boys. Jardine’s group has been booked to fill in for one of the appearances that Love’s crew called off, at the Oregon State Fair in Salem on Aug. 29.

The touring Beach Boys played a three-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl earlier this month, for the venue’s annual Independence Day fireworks spectacular. The shows went over well, although, even as he still took the lion’s share of lead vocals, Love, 85, was a less robust presence on stage than he has been on other recent tours, leading some to wonder if the demanding tour schedule had been taking a toll. Emcee/ringleader duties in the shows were mostly split between frequent guest star John Stamos and Love’s son, Christian Love (who sings lead on numbers formerly sung by the late Carl Wilson).

The Beach Boys’ revised touring schedule:

9.24 @ The Big E – The Big E Arena in West Springfield, MA
9.25 @ The Sounds of Summer Concert Series in Quakertown, PA
9.27 @ Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach, SC

  • ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Sets 2026 Release Date at Paramount+, Drops Apocalyptic First Teaser

‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Sets 2026 Release Date at Paramount+, Drops Apocalyptic First Teaser

Avatar: Seven Havens” has an official premiere date at Paramount+. And what a date it is.

The new entry in the “Avatar” franchise will debut on Oct. 9 on the streaming service. That date should stick out to fans, as it was originally the date set for the premiere of the movie “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender,” before that release was moved up to July 25 after the movie leaked online earlier this year.

And unlike past “Avatar” shows, which released weekly and had time between seasons, all 26 episodes of “Seven Havens” (divided into two “books” as with the past shows) will debut all at once as a binge release.

Paramount has also released the first teaser trailer for the show, which can be seen below.

Per the official logline, the new show “centers around a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. In this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

It stars Saheli Khan as Pavi, Aishu Devan as Nisha, Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.

“Avatar: Seven Havens” is created by franchise masterminds Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who also serve as executive producers via Avatar Studios. Ethan Spaulding is an executive producer as well, with Sehaj Sethi as co-executive producer. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios produce.

“Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” is set to debut with a special screening at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24 before its streaming release the next day. The film is also playing a one-week awards qualifying run in theaters in New York and Los Angeles in lieu of the full theatrical release it was originally supposed to get.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran for three seasons. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated series of all time, and was followed by sequel series “The Legend of Korra,” which premiered in 2012 and ran for four seasons.

  • Goldman Sachs CEO Breaks With Wall Street to Back Crypto Clarity Act

Goldman Sachs CEO Breaks With Wall Street to Back Crypto Clarity Act

    In brief

    • Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon told Politico he is “very supportive of moving the Clarity Act forward.”
    • His stance breaks with much of Wall Street, including JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon and a coalition of banking trade groups who want stronger language limiting stablecoin yield.
    • The endorsement lands as Republicans circulate updated bill text preserving the market framework while adding contested ethics provisions, leaving the Clarity Act’s Senate path uncertain ahead of a hoped-for vote before the August recess.

Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO David Solomon has come out in favor of the Clarity Act, positioning one of Wall Street’s biggest banks apart from much of the industry as the crypto market-structure bill approaches a possible Senate floor vote.

“I’m very supportive of moving the Clarity Act forward, so we can get some market structure in place and start to move the innovation process along,” Solomon said in an interview with Politico.

The Clarity Act, if passed and signed into law, formally legalize most cryptocurrency activity in the United States, classifying most crypto assets as non-securities and outside the purview of the SEC. The bill also carries provisions that would protect decentralized software developers and addresses the practice of offering rewards on stablecoin balances.

Solomon acknowledged the legislation is far from flawless, telling Politico that, “like all legislation,” the bill “is not perfect” and leaves plenty to debate. Its central value, he argued, lies in creating “a level playing field to enhance market stability and allow these markets to develop appropriately.” According to Politico, Solomon also suggested the framework could draw more institutional players into crypto markets—a stated priority for Goldman.

That stance sets him apart from the broader banking sector, which has spent months fighting one provision in particular: language governing yield on stablecoins.

Stablecoins are blockchain-based tokens that are designed to hold a steady value and are typically pegged one-to-one with the U.S. dollar. Traders use them to enter and exit positions without the need to access dollars directly, while market participants use them to make payments or send remittances overseas.

Crypto companies such as Coinbase have for years offered rewards on certain stablecoin balances, like the Circle-issued USDC. Those rewards can range between 3-5% APY, which is significantly greater than what banks typically offer on a traditional savings account. This practice, now commonly referred to as stablecoin yield, was—in a roundabout way—essentially codified into law with the passage of the GENIUS Act last year.

The banks and their lobbyists in Washington have been fighting to change it ever since, pouncing on the Clarity Act as their opportunity to close what they view as a loophole in the law.

JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has been the loudest critic of stablecoin yield, arguing in a May appearance on Fox Business that letting crypto firms pay rewards on dollar-pegged tokens without bank-equivalent oversight would hand them an unfair edge. “The banks will not accept it that way,” he said at the time.

The industry’s objections run deep. In May, a coalition of the nation’s top banking trade groups warned senators that a proposed compromise on stablecoin yield contained loopholes that would enable “evasion” of the intended limits, cautioning that such rewards could pull deposits away from traditional lenders. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has countered that banks are lobbying to kneecap stablecoin rewards precisely because they threaten deposit-based business models.

Solomon’s endorsement of the Clarity Act lands at a pivotal moment. Republican senators this week circulated updated bill text that preserves the core market framework while adding new ethics provisions restricting officials—language Democrats have already blasted as insufficient to address President Donald Trump’s crypto dealings.

With unresolved fights over stablecoins and ethics still in play, the bill’s path through the Senate remains uncertain ahead of a vote lawmakers hope to hold before the August recess.

  • Senate leader casts doubt on Clarity Act passage before August recess: CoinDesk

Senate leader casts doubt on Clarity Act passage before August recess: CoinDesk

The US Senate may begin considering the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act before its summer recess, but completing the crypto market structure bill by the industry’s preferred August 7 deadline appears increasingly unlikely, according to a CoinDesk report.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters Thursday that he would like to at least begin the floor process.

“I would like to at least get Clarity started,” Thune said. “We’ll see where the votes are.”

Beginning consideration before the recess could preserve a path for the Senate to resume work when lawmakers return in September. The chamber is scheduled to begin its summer state work period on August 10 and return on September 14.

The bill had not entered floor consideration as of Thursday, with the Senate instead working through judicial nominations, an Iran war powers resolution, and the annual defense authorization bill.

Industry representatives and congressional negotiators had viewed August 7 as the practical deadline for passing the bill before lawmakers shift their attention toward the November midterm elections.

The Senate will sit for only a limited period in September. Any amended version approved by senators would also need to return to the House before reaching President Donald Trump’s desk.

The latest draft combines proposals from the Senate Banking and Agriculture committees and sets rules for digital asset exchanges, intermediaries, issuers, and federal oversight.

Lawmakers remain divided over stablecoin rewards and ethics restrictions on senior government officials. Democrats have objected to giving the Justice Department responsibility for enforcing those rules, while some Republicans oppose the treatment of stablecoin rewards.

The disputes could prevent the bill from securing the 60 votes needed to advance. Senator Cynthia Lummis said the most contentious provisions remain open to revision as negotiators seek Democratic support.

The Clarity Act would define the roles of the SEC and CFTC in overseeing digital assets. The House approved its version in July 2025, while the Senate released a combined draft this week.

Missing the August window would leave the bill with less floor time and greater political pressure ahead of the midterm elections.
