We’ve all had moments where we think someone is waving to us and we wave back, only for their actual friends to appear from right behind us.
But in a recent video of Donald Trump, there appears to be nobody in the President’s vicinity, which makes his wave even more peculiar as people online are quick to question who he might be looking at.
Considering the 80-year-old’s role involves a lot of waving, there’s a small chance that he was simply warming up his hands to be ready his upcoming political rallies.
After all, the leader of the Republican Party clearly practises his handshakes ahead of meeting’s with other foreign leaders, as he’s well known for pulling them in as a show of power and dominance.
However, even the most staunch Trump fans might struggle to explain this latest video which shows him waving off into the distance as he prepares to board his private jet to Kansas for a rally, especially when the camera pans out and there’s nobody visible in that direction.
It raises more questions and doubts about the President’s health, which has been a significant topic since he returned to the White House in January 2025.
First, we saw the bruises on Trump’s hands, which the White House downplayed as from shaking too many hands, but when swelling on his legs appeared he was quickly diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency.
Trump and those close to him have always maintained that he’s in excellent physical and mental condition but ahead of the elections, it seems as if not everyone is in agreement, especially after multiple recent cases which seemed to show him struggling to stay awake during meetings.
While he often lambasted his predecessor Joe Biden for being ‘sleepy’, it’s clear the toll that being President can have on someone, and this latest episode perhaps points towards a mental decline in the 80-year-old.
But it’s also clear that he has no plans to step down from his role, with some suggesting that he might even use a loophole to give himself an unprecedented third term, although considering his approval rating has shot down since the beginning of the Iran war, we might well see the Democrats return to power in the US.

The midterm elections will give us an indication of how his remaining two years in office might play out but while the White House and Trump might claim that this video of him waving into the distance are easily explained, it could be another factor which his opponents point towards.
At a recent rally, he said: “I think I am sharper now than I was 20 years ago. I don’t know why… I feel the same.”
He also claimed to have aced ‘every single question’ on a cognitive test during his first term, so maybe there really is nothing to worry about.
