  • ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’: First Reactions

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’: First Reactions

The fashionably late sequel to The Devil Wears Prada held a series of press screenings over the last week or so, ahead of the film hitting theaters worldwide on May 1.

The social media reactions to The Devil Wears Prada 2 started appearing after those press screenings, with many appearing on Monday evening. Full reviews of the film from professional critics are embargoed until April 29. The film has had a drawn out, and global, promo campaign and held its world premiere at the Lincoln Center in New York City on April 20, with the event being live-streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. The European premiere was held on April 22 in London and there have also been events in Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Milan.

Prada 2 is the sequel to the 2006 dramedy film, an adaptation of the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger which made a mammoth $327 million at the global box office and became something of a pop culture phenomenon.

Famously, the long delay in making a sequel to such a financially successful and culturally impactful film came down to the lead actors’ hesistance in returning. Meryl Streep, who plays the demanding fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly in the-now franchise, and Anne Hathaway, who plays the young aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, both publicly demured on a sequel for years.

Both Streep and Hathaway return as does Emily Blunt, who played Miranda’s first assistant Emily Charlton in the original film and Stanley Tucci, who played Miranda’s fashion director and Andy’s mentor.

The plot to the sequel focuses on Miranda and Andy’s attempts to bring the august Runway Magazine back to relevance in the new, digital media age. They must seek out the help of Emily, who has become something of a power broker and works at a deep pocketed luxury fashion house.

As well as the core cast of Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci, Justin Theroux and Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh are the major new additions, with Theroux playing Emily’s boyfriend and Branagh in as Miranda’s new husband. Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B. J. Novak, Conrad Ricamora and Rachel Bloom also join the cast. Donatella Versace, Lady Gaga, Ciara, Calum Harper and Ashley Graham make cameos.

David Frankel, who directed the first film, returns to helm the second as does screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

  • All New York boroughs to host free World Cup fan events, Mamdani says

All New York boroughs to host free World Cup fan events, Mamdani says

Amid exorbitant fares and match tickets, fan events in New York will be free during the World Cup.

New York City will hold a series of free events for football fans who hope to experience the excitement of the World Cup but cannot afford the hefty ticket prices to the matches, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in an announcement.

Mamdani, a noted football devotee, announced the free events alongside New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Monday.

“Every fan should be able to watch the greatest tournament on earth without dipping into their savings,” Mamdani said.

The events – one in each of the city’s five boroughs – will include watch parties for the matches and other festivities. They will be staged at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, a shopping centre near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, and a minor league baseball stadium in Staten Island.

A separate fan event planned for Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, where the New York Red Bulls play, will cost $10.

World Cup matches will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Fans trying to get to MetLife Stadium from New York City can expect to shell out $150 for a round-trip train fare for each match, transport officials said earlier this month.

That’s nearly 12 times the regular $12.90 fare for the roughly 15-minute, 14km (9-mile) ride from Manhattan’s Penn Station to the stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. On-site parking will not be available for most fans, so New Jersey officials anticipate that about 40,000 fans will use mass transit for each match.

The home stadium for both the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets is set to host eight World Cup matches, including the tournament final on July 19. Group-stage matches for football powerhouses Brazil, France, Germany, and England, along with other nations, begin on June 13.

‌Two Republican members of Congress are calling on the Trump administration to empower the National Guard to address potential drone-related threats and ensure a “unified federal security posture” at the upcoming World Cup games.

The letter by US Representatives Michael McCaul and Elijah Crane, who both sit on the House of Representatives’ Committee on Homeland Security, was sent to US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth on Friday.

McCaul and Crane called for immediate interagency action to secure the airspace over ‌the 11 US cities hosting World Cup matches this year.

Potential personnel shortages and complex jurisdictional divides between event organisers and host cities risk creating a fragmented environment, they said, adding that the situation requires a unified federal security posture.

“With its rapid deployability, nationwide scalability, and extensive experience responding to domestic emergencies, the National Guard is uniquely positioned to assist federal and state authorities with C-UAS mitigation and unified coordination for World Cup security,” they wrote.

The Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The call to deputise troops to respond to drone threats came a day before a gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, raising new security concerns about this year’s World Cup games.

The White House said on Monday that the matches will be safe following Saturday’s ‌shooting.

  • Ariane Labed Joins Ena Sendijarevic’s English-Language Witch Hunt Drama ‘The Possessed’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Ariane Labed Joins Ena Sendijarevic’s English-Language Witch Hunt Drama ‘The Possessed’ (EXCLUSIVE)

French actress Ariane Labed, who won the best actress award at Venice for Athina Rachel Tsangari’s “Attenberg,” has boarded “The Possessed,” the third feature from Bosnian-Dutch writer-director Ena Sendijarević. The film will mark Sendijarević’s English-language debut and is expected to round out its international cast in the coming months.

Since breaking out with “Attenberg,” Labed has carved out a reputation as one of Europe’s most distinctive screen presences. Her credits include collaborations with Yorgos Lanthimos on “Alps” and “The Lobster,” Philippe Grandrieux on “Malgré la nuit,” Justin Kurzel on “Assassin’s Creed,” and Lucie Borleteau on “Fidelio l’odyssée d’Alice,” for which she won the best actress award at the Locarno Film Festival and was nominated for a best upcoming César Award. Other film credits include Richard Linklater’s “Before Midnight,” Garth Davis’ “Mary Magdalene,” and “The Souvenir” and “The Souvenir Part II,” directed by Joanna Hogg.

“The Possessed” is set in 17th-century Europe, where two women fleeing the witch hunts create a refuge at the edge of the world, until a man becomes their unwilling captive and sparks a dangerous love triangle.

Sendijarević broke out internationally with her idiosyncratic feature debut “Take Me Somewhere Nice” (2019), which was selected for ACID Cannes and won the Special Jury Prize at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. She previously attracted attention with her short “Import” (2016), which premiered in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and was the Dutch entry to the Oscars.

Her second feature film, “Sweet Dreams” (2023), premiered in Locarno’s main competition and won the Pardo for best performance, and was once more the Netherlands official submission to the Oscars. In 2024 she was selected as one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch and one of IndieWire’s 17 Female Directors to Watch.

“I have followed and been inspired by Ariane Labed’s work for more than a decade, and I consider her one of Europe’s most daring and singular actresses. This project has a bold concept that will demand fearless performances, and so it is both an honor and a great excitement to bring Ariane into the fold for ‘The Possessed,’” said Sendijarević.

The film is produced by Layla Meijman and Maarten van der Ven (Studio Ruba), in co-production with Sendijarević (Eklips), Miriam Porté (Distinto Film) and Martien Vlietman (VPRO). Amra Bakšić Čamo (SCCA/pro.ba) serves as associate producer. Financing comes from the Netherlands Film Fund, COBO, ICEC, Creative Europe MEDIA and Uniqa.

The project was previously presented at Les Arcs and CineMart.

Labed is represented by United Agents and Agence Adequat.

  • Spotify Q1 Revenue Rises 8%, Premium Subscribers Inch Up to 293 Million Amid U.S. Price Hikes

Spotify Q1 Revenue Rises 8%, Premium Subscribers Inch Up to 293 Million Amid U.S. Price Hikes

Spotify reported results for the first quarter of 2026 that were in line or slightly ahead of expectations across all key metrics — gaining 3 million Premium subscribers in the period to reach 293 million total, notwithstanding its recent price increases in the U.S.

Total monthly active users (including both free and paid) climbed 12% year over year to 761 million, slightly ahead of its prior guidance of 759 million.

Spotify’s Q1 revenue came in at €4.53 billion, up 8%, driven by 10% growth in Premium revenue and offset by an ad-supported revenue decline of 5%. (Excluding the impact of foreign exchange rates, Spotify said, total revenue increased 15%, Premium revenue was up 15% and ad-supported sales rose 3%.) On a constant-currency basis, an increase in music advertising was driven by growth in impressions sold, partially offset by softness in pricing, while podcasting ad growth was led by sponsorship gains across owned and licensed shows.

The company’s Q1 gross margin of 33.0% was its second-highest to date, up from 31.6% a year prior. Operating income reached €715 million, up 40%, and free cash flow rose 54% to €824 million in the period. According to Spotify, the improved gross margin was due to revenue growth outpacing costs for music (net of marketplace programs), audiobooks and video podcasts.

Likely putting a damper on Spotify’s Premium growth in Q1: It raised subscription prices in the U.S., its third price hike in four years. The company said paid subscriptions in the period saw “broad-based regional growth, led by Latin America and Europe.”

Spotify’s outlook for Q2 calls for more robust user growth. It’s projecting total MAUs increasing to 778 million (a gain of 17 million) and Premium subscribers of 299 million (implying the addition of 6 million net new subscribers in the quarter). The company expects total revenue of €4.8 billion, which would be up 14.5%; operating income of €630 million; and operating margin of 33.1%.

Alex Norström, co-CEO of Spotify, said in announcing the results: “We surpassed 760 million MAU, delivered on the subscriber growth we aimed to achieve, and saw healthy engagement from existing users, reactivations and new users alike.” He added, “Since the global rollout of our more personalized free experience, users in key markets like the U.S. are listening and watching more days per month. All that reinforces our confidence in sustained user and subscriber growth, low churn and continued progress on revenue and margin.”

Gustav Söderström, Spotify’s other co-CEO, added: “We’re well positioned because of our large, engaged user base, deep creator relationships, and years of investment in personalization and infrastructure at scale. Together, these create a platform that can take advantage of this moment and unlock entirely new growth vectors that will enable us to climb new mountains previously unimaginable. We see significant room to grow across users, formats and engagement and to expand what Spotify is and can become over time.”

Norström and Söderström assumed the roles of co-CEOs at the start of 2026, as founder Daniel Ek stepped aside as CEO to become executive chairman.

Overall, Spotify said it now offers about 7 million podcast titles, of which more than 590,000 are video podcasts. The company has 700,000-plus audiobook titles across 22 markets. On Monday, Spotify announced it was launching into the fitness category, including a deal with Peloton to license more than 1,400 workout videos for Premium subs.

The company paid out $11 billion to the music industry in 2025, up about 10% from the year prior.

Jack Dorsey’s Block nears 9,000 bitcoin in treasury after Q1 addition

Block (XYZ) said it added 114 bitcoin in the first quarter, bringing its corporate holdings to near 9,000 $BTC, worth about $691 million, according to a public proof-of-reserves dashboard. It held 8,883 $BTC at the end of last year.

Adding in the 19,357 $BTC held on behalf of customers, the payments company co-founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said it is responsible for a total of 28,355 $BTC, worth about $2.2 billion at current prices.

The owner of Square and Cash App said the dashboard is a point-in-time snapshot and not a full audit of solvency, though it plans to publish regular third-party reports.

The snapshot reflects balances as of March 2026 and is backed by third-party audit checks and cryptographic signatures that users can verify independently.

The company published wallet addresses and signed messages onchain, allowing anyone to confirm ownership without access to private keys.

  • Cryptocurrency Analyst Willy Woo Says Bitcoin is Trying to Form a Bottom! He Pointed to This Price Level!

Cryptocurrency Analyst Willy Woo Says Bitcoin is Trying to Form a Bottom! He Pointed to This Price Level!

Willy Woo, a closely followed analyst in the cryptocurrency markets, stated in his latest assessment of the Bitcoin price that the market may have entered a bottoming phase.

According to Woo, Bitcoin is trying to form a “bottom” after its volatile performance in recent weeks, but it is not yet clear whether this process will be successful.

The analyst specifically pointed out that the $79,000 level is a critical threshold. Woo stated that this level corresponds to the average cost for short-term investors, and emphasized that a sustained break above this region would be a significant test for a new uptrend. However, Woo approached the current recovery attempt cautiously, estimating its success at approximately 30 percent.

On the other hand, Woo stated that establishing sustained support above the $65,000 level is critical for confirming a stronger bottom formation. He indicated that if this level is maintained, the market could find a more solid foundation, but in the opposite scenario, volatile trading could continue.

Woo emphasized that the market has not yet given a clear bottom signal, stating that the next three to six weeks will be decisive. He noted that price movements during this period will determine the direction of the medium- to long-term trend, adding that investors should proceed cautiously.

  • Jon Stewart Blasts RFK Jr. For Abandoning Cheryl Hines During WHCD Shooting: “The Guy Who Outshined You is Stephen F****** Miller”

Jon Stewart Blasts RFK Jr. For Abandoning Cheryl Hines During WHCD Shooting: “The Guy Who Outshined You is Stephen F****** Miller”

Jon Stewart tackled the presidential assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Monday’s episode of The Daily Show.

The comedian’s monologue took the approach of pointing out the litany of absurdities related to the WHCD, including before, during and after the event. “The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is supposed to be an evening of fun and merriment until, like most things in America, it was interrupted by gunfire. This is why we can’t have nice things,” Stewart said. “To be perfectly frank, it’s not even a nice thing. Nobody wanted this dinner in the first place! Nobody needed [this]. We’re so fucked in this country right now. We can’t even pull off a dinner that shouldn’t have existed in the first place. ‘Hey, let’s celebrate the First Amendment with an administration that’s doing everything it can do to destroy it.’ Sounds great!”

He continued, “Should we hold the dinner in a secure location? Well, we could. Or you know what, why not just the Hilton? You know what, let’s not hold it in a secure location. Let’s go to the Hilton. You know the Hilton slogan, “More hard to defend entry points than rooms.””

Stewart has long disliked the WHCD, that is sometimes derisively dubbed the “nerd prom,” and has been outspoken critic of the coziness between journalists and politicians that events like this only reinforced. His monologue took shots at some of the attendees who seemed to use the shooting as a chance to create content. “In crisis situations like this, people tend to show you who they really are and who the elite of Washington DC are. Like this influencer, whose caption says, “shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” but whose duck face says “Coachella.” ‘We’re all gonna die, Gucci.’”

Stewart spent a sizeable chunk of the segment on how people reacted when shots were fired and the Secret Service moved in to remove notable government figures from the ballroom. He reserved most of his incredulity for Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who on video is seen being rushed out of the room, but conspiculously leaves his wife, the actress Cheryl Hines, behind.

“From JD Vance’s Dancing with the Stars quickstep exit to Pete Hegseth dropping a smoldering ‘Blue Steel,’ to RFK Jr. being whisked away by a Secret Service hive who apparently couldn’t spare one worker bee for, I don’t know, his wife,” said Stewart before freezing the video clip. “Do you see right there? There’s a group of men carrying another man out of the room, and then there’s a woman. A woman who appears to be… desperately reaching out for someone to care, [someone] to help her. That’s a woman reaching up in agony and fear. That’s RFK Jr’s wife. How fucked up is that scene?”

Stewart then showed the clip again in slow motion and asked the audience to pay attention to the foreground where White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, a man not known for his empathy or compassion, is shown escorting his pregnant wife out of the ballroom. “[There’s] Stephen Miller carefully protecting his wife. See, turned out, that’s an option! You can protect your wife instead of, I don’t know, beating her to the escape pod. And the guy who outshined you [RFK Jr.] is Stephen fucking Miller. That’s who was more chivalrous. Stephen Miller, a guy who probably jerks off to the new Faces of Death movie. And now for the rest of your life, for the rest of your life, your wife is gonna ask you a question no one’s ever asked before, ever: ‘Why can’t you be more like Stephen Miller?’”

Driving his point home, Stewart added, “Looks like we got a new addition to the ‘Kennedy family abandoning women to their fate’ Wikipedia page.” After groans from the crowd, Stewart shot back, “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Too soon or, or too many?”

After mocking the much-derided FBI Director Kash Patel’s evening at the WHCD, Stewart moved on to Donald Trump’s post-shooting interview with 60 Minutes, picking out the more outlandish things the president said to CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell. Stewart played clips of Trump remarking repeatedly that he was protected by “very strong, physically strong, really attractive” law enforcement people, as well as the fact that the Secret Service “drew those guns so fast, it looked like, they looked like Matt Dillon.”

At this point, Stewart showed a picture on Matt Dillon from There’s Something About Mary up on the screen and said, “I know what you’re thinking: Matt Dillon? Is Donald Trump so old, he’s confusing the guy from There’s Something About Mary with Matt Damon from the Bourne movies. But it’s not true. Trump is actually so old, he’s not confused at all. He’s referencing Marshal Matt Dillon from the Gunsmoke TV show!”

Much like most of the internet, Stewart zeroed in on the ‘Jim from The Office‘ moment from Trump’s 60 Minutes interview, the moment the president looks straight at the camera as O’Donnell reads out parts from the WHCD shooter’s manifesto, notably the passage: “I’m no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”

The last section of Stewart’s monologue featured first hand WHCD testimony from Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, The Daily Show‘s only representative at the event. Normally, with these recaps, it’s incumbent on the writer to pull out the highlights of a segment but the Triumph interview is genuinely hilarious must-watch TV, so on this occasion, The Hollywood Reporter will link directly to the relevant part on YouTube video here. • Union accuses Apple of unlawful discrimination against represented workers

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) union has accused Apple of unlawfully discriminating against the unionized employees of the company’s Towson, Maryland retail store. IAM has filed an unfair labor practice charge against Apple with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) after the company announced on April 9 that it was shutting down three of its US stores. One of those locations was the Towson retail outlet, which employed nearly 90 workers and became the first Apple Store in the country to unionize back in 2022.

In its complaint, IAM said that Apple didn’t offer the employees it represents the transfer opportunities it provided to non-unionized employees from its other stores. Unlike those non-represented employees, Towson personnel were allegedly told that they had to reapply for positions through the same process as external candidates. “Apple is denying union-represented workers the same opportunities it is giving to others — and doing so because these workers chose to organize,” the organization said. “That is discrimination, and it is exactly what federal labor law is designed to prevent.”

In addition to the Towson location, Apple also shut down its stores in Trumbull, CT, Escondito, CA. Back when the closures were announced, IAM said that “Apple’s claim that the collective bargaining agreement prevents relocation is simply false and raises serious concerns that [the] closure is a cynical attempt to bust the union.”
