Let’s first consider what this model brings to the table that the one we reviewed last year didn’t. That model was unlit, and merely entering Corsair’s 4000D case configurator bumps it from $85 to $105. Adding the $30 white-oak front panel, the $15 wrap-around power supply cover, and a $20 full-glass side panel would bring the total to $170, had we not started with those exact parts as this $129.99 “Wood RS” combo and thus not bought some panels twice. Yes, we’d rather pocket the $40 savings than find a place to store the redundant pieces. (Those add-ons are variously the Old and the New. You could include the purple-shifting Vault “Nova” version as Something Blue…and regular readers might label the front face as “Something Borrowed.”)
Meanwhile, the full-size bottom-panel dust filter seen on 2026 models of the 4000D appears to have been lifted from the Corsair 4500X, counting both as borrowed and new: The revised filter covers an extra 120mm fan mount at the front of the bottom panel, a feature also found on the 4500X. Conversely, the half-length filter of the 4000D RS ARGB I evaluated in 2025 lacked such provisions.

The stock I/O section includes a headset combo jack, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type-A) and one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (Type-C) ports, and a light-up power button. (Headset combo jacks like this one have a second stripe on the ground sleeve that functions as a monaural microphone input, so they can serve standard headphones as well as single-plug headsets.)

The 4000D Wood RS’s rear slot panel has been updated to remove the separator bars between the PCI Express slots seen in my previous review, and a single 120mm fan now occupies the previous sample’s empty 140mm/120mm rear mount. You still get a dual-pattern power supply mount that allows lid-mounted fans to face either upward or downward, and the case still has a pair of captive screws for quickly mounting most PSU models in the standard orientation (i.e., intake fan on the underside).

A synthetic rubber grab handle aids in pulling the top panel rearward to unlatch it from the top, while two more captive screws prevent that from happening accidentally. I removed the factory sticker that warns you not to lift the case from that strap after taking this photo.

The card slot panel affords around 20mm of space to slide your card’s inner tabs over any obstructions on the back edge of your motherboard before sliding it in. That’s just enough space; that’s a task that I’ve previously established can require up to 19mm, so it should at least work with every motherboard model I can think of.

Want to mount a video card vertically? If you own a long-enough PCIe x16 riser cable, you can instead remove the PCIe slot panel and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise to mount the card thus.
All Frame 4000 variations integrate the front case feet into the frame of the front panel, which also serves as a mounting place for Corsair’s snap-in front grill. The dust filter in between attaches via a tab at the top and magnets at the bottom to cover the three factory 120mm white fans, and the screw slots above and below these allow brackets to be respaced to fit two 140mm fans.

A sliding bracket on the right side of the top panel’s 380mm-deep fan-mount area allows it to fit up to three 120mm or two 140mm fans, though the much larger space beneath the bracket could hold 360mm-format radiators up to 430mm long. (The longest we’ve seen is 410mm.)
Radiator thickness could become an issue since the bracket sits only 35mm above the motherboard, but the good news is that 120mm/240mm/360mm coolers sit a full 60mm horizontally from the motherboard’s mounting plane. My measurements show that a set of 56mm DIMMs should fit behind a thick 360mm-format radiator and fan set, but I’d play it safe and give any build at least a couple of millimeters of extra clearance.

The peg sticking out of the Frame 4000D Wood RS’s cable shroud (to the right, in the image below) is a graphics-card support pin that you can adjust up and down the length of its slot by slightly loosening its screw. Behind it (to the left), you can see that the power supply shroud has eight holes spaced to support two 120mm fans, and four more holes designed to hold a vertical-graphics-card bracket in either of two positions (closer to, or further from, the side-panel glass). The top of the graphics card support pin is padded to quash vibrations.

Even the motherboard tray is framed into the Frame 4000D Wood RS, giving buyers alternatives to the sheet-steel original. Holes around its periphery support the rear-facing connectors of MSI Project Zero and Asus BTF motherboards in both ATX and MicroATX formats, while holes in the frame surrounding it make space for traditional cable routing.
It’s also no coincidence that the cable shroud in front of the motherboard tray appears to be filling the hole of a side-panel radiator mount. (More on that in a moment.)

A dust-filtering sheet sticks to the inside of the right side panel via magnetic strips around its periphery, but that isn’t enough to keep it from sliding out of position during shipping. To prevent that, Corsair applied a piece of masking tape. Though the tape is intended only as a temporary solution for shipping, I found no reason to remove it.

That giant, deep gap you see below behind the cable shroud seems a waste if it’s only used to stow a few cables, especially after considering the big gap the Frame 4000D Wood RS offers behind the motherboard tray. You’ll want to make sure to use it to the fullest.

A tray that’s designed to hold up to two 2.5-inch drives, a single 3.5-inch drive or a 2.5-inch drive plus an iCue Link hub covers most of the motherboard tray’s big hole. (The big hole is the one a builder would use to replace a CPU cooler’s support bracket on the opposite side from their CPU socket.)
