Search-focused AI tool Perplexity is joining rivals such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Microsoft by introducing a new AI agent tech built for complex work projects.
Perplexity already has its own agentic tools called Computer, but its new Teammates alternative is designed to build productivity-focused agents that better handle context, remember your work history, and stay accessible at all times to action ongoing tasks.
Teammates appear in dedicated threads within Perplexity once you’ve created them, and each remains permanently available, able to activate at any time and work 24/7 even when you’re away from your computer.
Perplexity says, “Proactive by design, they run on automations and keep moving work forward on your behalf.” You can communicate with the agent in natural language and request changes at any time.
If the agent asks for further information or wants to update you on its progress, it will notify you directly. The AI can also work with your other Teammate agents on complex tasks and message your real-life coworkers via Slack.
The Perplexity website gives a few examples of what you can expect its agents to be able to do, including taking on roles of Ads Manager, Engineer, QA Engineer, or Legal Research Assistant. For the latter, it shows a workflow in which the agentic AI could read a contract, compare its terms with other documents, flag any problems, and then draft a response to address them.
Perplexity already has its own agentic tech, but it says Teammates are designed for “ongoing, large-scale work.” It says, “Teammates work with multi-agent orchestration, full desktop and browser use, and proactive monitoring.”

The new tool is exclusive to those with a Perplexity Max subscription, which costs $200 per month or $2,000 a year for an individual account.
At launch, Teammates will be free to use for Max subscribers, but it calls this a “promotional period” and says it will eventually use your credits to run the tech. Perplexity has yet to clarify when that change will happen, or how many credits you can expect it to use.
You can access Teammates on Perplexity for web starting today, with plans to launch on Android and iOS later.
