Karol G Closes Out Coachella With Electrifying Set Heavy on Latin and Female Empowerment: ‘Don’t Feel Fear, Feel Pride!’

Yet into the wee hours of Monday morning, as many exhausted festival attendees headed home and many online viewers simply ran out of energy, Colombian dynamo Karol G delivered an explosive performance that leaned heavily into Latin and female empowerment, covering multiple genres of music and guest appearances while showing off her formidable talents as a singer, performer and conceptualist. The show was an explosion of music, dancing, colors and symbols that words could never do justice — it’s streaming for another few hours (and for weekend two next Sunday) so dig in while you can.

Karol was, as she noted, the first Latin female artist in 27 years of Coachella to headline. She leaned heavily into that role: The show opened with a spoken-word fable, with a translation in English appearing on the massive screens, about a young woman who “came into this world being wild, untamable, free” but was then repressed by a voice saying “If you want to belong, you must surrender to the world” — but of course she did not stay repressed forever, recovering her power as she “lloked around and felt the power of every woman by her side,” finishing with the words “Forever wild — Latina forever.”

She and a dozen-odd limber-limbed dancers clad in gold lame bikinis then tore into that song, performing on a giant, multi-level stage that was designed like a series of caves — symbolizing origin — with her (apparently all-female) musicians on the ground floor. After a rousing start (setlist below), what followed was a vivid, loving tribute to all different flavors and musical genres of Latin culture, as loaded with subtext as Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl headlining performance. An all-female mariachi band took the stage for a brief performance; Becky G and Mariah Angeliq joined Karol for sultry duets on “Mamiii” and “El Makinon” respectively; Puerto Rican rapper Wisin performed a long medley of his hits in the middle of the set; legendary Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval delivered a powerful solo during “Ivonny Bonita”; Karol performed back-to-back with guitarist Greg Gonzales, of the band Cigarettes After Sex on a new song.

Karol was an explosive presence throughout the show, leading a huge troupe of colorfully clad dancers onto the walkways leading into the crowd; performing atop a giant model of a macaw (another symbol of Latin culture) with its wings outstretched; performing with her dancers in a sculptured pool and incorporating the splashing water into the choreography; quieting things down with a couple of low-key ballads; and later going into the front row of the audience and looking on with an incredulous smile as a young woman rapped her lyrics note for note.

As the set wound down, Karol, surrounded by dozens of musicians and dancers, gave a brief speech, noting that it took 27 years for Coachella — which has leaned heavily into Latin music in recent years — to book a female Latin performer as a headliner before saying, “Before me there were so any legendary Latino artists that gave me the opportunity to be here tonight, so this isn’t just about me: This is about my Latino community,” she said to cheers.

“And at the same time, this is for my Latinos that have been struggling in this country lately — we stand [with] them, and at the same time I am very proud because this brings out the best in us: unity, resilience, and a strong spirit. We do this because we want everyone to feel welcome to our culture, so I want everyone to feel proud of where you come from: Don’t feel fear, feel pride!”

The set then closed out with ten minutes of joyous music and dancing from the entire troupe, punctuated by fireworks, blazing laser lights, blasts of flame and more. It was an explosive set that found Karol leaning heavily into her moment and emerging triumphantly.

‘The Rookie,’ ‘Will Trent’ Renewed at ABC

Both “The Rookie” and “Will Trent” have been renewed for new seasons at ABC.

The renewal will take “The Rookie” to its ninth season, while it will bring “Will Trent” to its fifth. Both shows are currently airing new seasons on ABC, with both slated to air their respective season finales in early May.

As previously reported, ABC has already renewed its primetime dramas “9-1-1,” “9-1-1: Nashville,” “High Potential,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Likewise, the hit comedy series “Abbott Elementary” was renewed in March. That means the only shows awaiting word on new seasons are the freshman drama “R.J. Decker” and the sophomore multi-cam comedy “Shifting Gears.”

ABC recently shot a pilot for an offshoot of “The Rookie” titled “The Rookie: North.” Starring Jay Ellis, the pilot follows a man who joins the police force in the Pacific Northwest after a violent home invasion. At the time of this publishing, it is still awaiting word on a series pickup.

“The Rookie” stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez, and Deric Augustine as Miles Penn.

Alexi Hawley created the series and serves as executive producer and showrunner. Mark Gordon, Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Bill Norcross, Brynn Malone, Moira Kirland, Bill Roe and Jon Steinberg are also executive producers on the series. It is produced by Lionsgate Television in partnership with 20th Television.

“Will Trent” Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, Kevin Daniels as Benjamin Franklin, with Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner.

The series is based on Karin Slaughter’s “Will Trent” books. Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen developed the series for television and serve as executive producers along with Karine Rosenthal, Slaughter, Oly Obst, Jason Ensler, Ellen Marie Blum and Rodríguez. Heldens, Thomsen and Rosenthal also serve as showrunners. The series is produced by 20th Television.

  • Circle CEO says he won’t freeze USDC without a court order even as hackers walk away with millions

Circle CEO says he won’t freeze USDC without a court order even as hackers walk away with millions

Circle Internet (CRCL) CEO Jeremy Allaire offered his clearest public response yet to growing criticism over how the stablecoin issuer handles illicit funds, saying it does not freeze wallets unless there is a formal legal basis to do so.

Speaking on stage at a press conference in Seoul, Allaire positioned $USDC, the second-largest dollar-pegged stablecoin, as a regulated financial product rather than a tool for real-time intervention.

“Circle has a very, very clear performance obligation under the law,” Allaire said. “Circle follows the rule of law, and we are able to undertake actions such as freezing a wallet at the direction of law enforcement or the courts.”

Allaire framed $USDC as part of the traditional financial system, subject to legal process and oversight. Decisions to blacklist or freeze funds, he suggested, should not be made at the discretion of the company in the heat of an exploit, but instead follow requests from law enforcement or court orders. The approach reflects Circle’s broader strategy to align closely with regulators and institutions.

Rival Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, USDT, has a more proactive approach. The company has repeatedly frozen funds linked to hack and illicit activity within hours. In several cases cited by blockchain sleuth ZachXBT, including exploits affecting Ledger and Remitano, Tether blacklisted stolen funds while equivalent $USDC remained untouched.

Allaire’s remarks come at a time of mounting scrutiny. Earlier this month, Drift Protocol suffered a suspected North Korea-linked exploit that resulted in losses of up to $280 million. Roughly $230 million in $USDC was moved across chains over several hours. The incident has become a focal point for critics who argue that Circle is failing to act despite having the technical ability to do so.

    Intervention carries risks, too

ZachXBT is among the most vocal. In a widely circulated thread on X, he said Circle’s inaction across more than a dozen cases since 2022 has contributed to over $420 million in illicit funds escaping. He pointed to multiple incidents where stolen $USDC remained in identifiable wallets for hours or even days without being frozen, including exploits affecting Cetus, SwapNet, and Nomad.

Critics say the pattern highlights a deeper issue. $USDC is centrally issued and contains controls that allow Circle to block addresses. Yet those powers are rarely used in real time. By deferring to legal processes that move far more slowly than blockchain transactions, they argue, Circle creates a gap that attackers can exploit.

Others in the industry argue that faster intervention carries its own risks. Omid Malekan, an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School, responded to calls for discretionary freezes by warning that allowing issuers to act beyond legal requirements would undermine the foundations of decentralized finance (DeFi).

Such powers could erode trust in DeFi systems by introducing centralized points of control, Malekan said.

“If Circle and other stablecoin issuers implement arbitrary freeze or seize functions beyond what the law requires, then not only is code not law, but also law is not law,” he wrote on X. “Instead what a single executive inside a single corporation decides is law.”

A Popular Altcoin Launches a Major Offensive: It Begins Preparations Against the Quantum Threat!

Recent concerns about advancements in quantum technology have become a significant and widely debated topic in the cryptocurrency market.

At this point, the cryptocurrency sector is intensifying its efforts to improve quantum resilience following a significant research report published by Google in late March.

In this context, the quantum threat is not only worrying the Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) communities, but an altcoin has also begun testing quantum-resistant technology.

According to DL News, Dogecoin (DOGE) developers are testing quantum-resistant technology to counter the threat posed by quantum computers.

Dogecoin Foundation developer Ed Tubbs stated in an interview with X that teams are exploring ways to send quantum-proof transactions.

Tubbs said, “We’re still in the early stages of the experimental phase, but it’s exciting to see real post-quantum evidence emerge on the main network.”

According to Tubbs, this study shows that Dogecoin transactions made by network users may be quantum resistant.

“…This allows us to prove that a quantum-secure signature for a transaction can be generated on-chain without changing how Dogecoin operates today.”

Recently, Vet, an $XRP Ledger validator, argued that $XRP is better protected against quantum computers than Bitcoin.

  • Paul Williams on Muppets, Streisand and Sobriety

Paul Williams on Muppets, Streisand and Sobriety

Paul Williams, a Songwriters Hall of Famer and an Oscar and three-time Grammy winner, is being honored at the TCM Classic Film Festival, where he’ll attend screenings of two films for which he wrote tunes, 1979’s The Muppet Movie and 1987’s Ishtar. The 85-year-old spoke with THR from a convention, where many of his fans had not yet been born when he wrote “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “The Rainbow Connection” but may know him for his Daft Punk collaborations “Touch” and “Beyond.”

How did you learn about your TCM tribute? Were you involved in selecting the films they’ll show?

I got an email and was told that they had run out of people. (Laughs.) No, it’s wonderful, and TCM is such a great channel. The older I get, the more I appreciate classic films — my favorites include A Place in the Sun and Paths of Glory — and they are kept alive by TCM. At any rate, they picked the films for my tribute, and I was thrilled with the choices. Ishtar, to me, was one of my greatest challenges — being hired to write “bad songs” [for characters who are bad songwriters] was really interesting. As for The Muppet Movie, it started when I was a guest on The Muppet Show and met Jim Henson and all the Muppet performers, and we formed almost a blood brotherhood.

Paul Williams in the ’70s, around the time he wrote “Rainy Days and Mondays” and Williams in 2026.

How did you get started in the business?

I’ve described myself as an out-of-work actor who got really lucky. I did a movie called The Loved One [1965] and had a nice part in it. Then I worked for several months on a picture called The Chase [1966] with Marlon Brando and Robert Redford, but I was inches away from being an extra in that. And then I started writing songs. I think I write songs with my instincts as an actor — I try to crawl inside the characters and write like they would. The longest partnership of my life was with Roger Nichols, who was at A&M Records when I was signed there. They were looking for a lyricist for Roger. He would present me a finished melody. We wrote songs together like “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Rainy Days and Mondays.”

With “Evergreen,” my understanding is Barbra Streisand wrote the melody and you wrote the lyrics.

I was hired [to write the songs for 1976’s A Star Is Born] by Barbra and [producer] Jon Peters. There was a song that I’d written with Kenny Ascher that she loved called “You and Me Against the World,” and she said, “There’s a scene after [Kris Kristofferson’s character is] killed where I find a song that he’s written, and I’d like to have something like ‘You and Me Against the World.’ “

Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976’s A Star Is Born, for which Williams wrote the lyrics to “Evergreen.”

    Courtesy Everett Collection

At one of my first meetings with Barbra, she sat down and took out a guitar, which she was just learning to play, and she went, “Could you do anything with this?” It was such a beautiful melody, but she was very shy and demure as she was offering it. I went, “Are you joking? I think that’s your love theme!” The shooting schedule was such that the song came very late in the shoot. I worked on Kris’ songs first, and I heard again and again from Barbra, “Where’s my lyric?” Eventually I wrote “Evergreen.”

You were omnipresent as a public figure for many years — performing, acting, appearing on TV game shows, etc. — but then you sort of disappeared for a while. What was that about?

I was a major cocaine addict and alcoholic, and for 10 years I was missing in action — it was as if somebody else was using my body. You know you’re an alcoholic when you misplace a decade. For me, the ’80s were essentially gone. But I just celebrated 36 years of sobriety. I went to treatment, and I loved it — I felt a connection to the world around me, I felt safe, and I felt unashamed. I felt like Lazarus, and I began to rebuild my life. Then I went to UCLA, got my certification as a drug and alcohol counselor and focused on that instead of music. The phone was not ringing, I was not the new kid in town, and I had a reputation that was not the best. But then a wonderful thing happened. The phone rang and it was Brian Henson [Jim’s son], who was doing The Muppet Christmas Carol [1992], and he asked if I would write the songs for it. It was the toe-in-the-water experience that gave me my musical career back.

  • ‘Saturday Night Live’ Has New Home in Canada

‘Saturday Night Live’ Has New Home in Canada

Saturday Night Live is set to leave longtime Canadian home Global Television for rival CTV and the Crave streamer, starting with the 52nd season later this year.

The deal between CTV-parent Bell Media and NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will see the NBC sketch comedy series shift to CTV and Crave, which already has library SNL episodes on its platform. A change of Canadian rights holders also follows NBCU’s Peacock as a direct-to-consumer streaming platform continuing to focus on the U.S. market and doing deals for its studio programming with Canadian broadcasters.

“A proven hit for over 50 years, the series has always been at the vanguard of pop culture, setting the tone for modern humor. We will be enjoying alongside viewers when the new season premieres on Crave and CTV,” Justin Stockman, vp of global content at Bell Media said in a statement on Monday.

The Canadian rights to SNL shifting north of the U.S. border from longtime Corus Entertainment comes as local media giants continue to play musical chairs with major U.S. TV brands amid streaming competition. In May 2025,  Warner Bros. Discovery did deals to move popular lifestyle and entertainment brands like HGTV, Food Network, Cooking Channel, Magnolia Network and OWN from Corus Entertainment to rival Rogers Sports and Media.

WBD also switched other entertainment brands like Discovery, Motor Trend, Science, Animal Planet and I.D. from longtime homes at Bell Media to Rogers. The realignment of top American channels and series aims to allow local broadcasters to continue following TV viewers online, and targeting where possible Canadians increasingly favoring U.S. streaming platforms Netflix and Prime Video.

The big loser in that Canadian TV horse race is Corus, a major buyer of American series from major Hollywood studio suppliers, but which has been hobbled by a recapitalization plan to stay in business that has yet to receive final approval from the CRTC, the country’s TV watchdog. Corus draws Canadian primetime TV viewers with American series like the Survivor and NCIS franchises, the FBI,CIA and 9-1-1 series, but has now given up SNL as it deals with a continuing decline in linear TV advertising in Canada.

  • 19 incredible stats to know about LeBron James before his 19th playoff run

When the Los Angeles Lakers open the 2026 NBA Playoffs against the Houston Rockets on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC), LeBron James will begin his 19th postseason run. To celebrate that historic achievement, here are 19 stats you need to know about one of the greatest careers in sports history.

    19th playoff appearance

James ties Karl Malone and John Stockton for the most playoff appearances in NBA history, while passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Tim Duncan, who had 18 apiece. His 19 playoff appearances are more than six NBA franchises have in their entire histories: Orlando (18), Memphis (14), Minnesota (14), Toronto (14), Charlotte (10) and New Orleans (nine).

    All-time scoring leader

James leads all players in scoring in both the regular season (43,440 points) and the playoffs (8,289 points). He is the only player in NBA history with 50,000 combined points in the regular season and playoffs, currently at 51,729 (and counting).

In the playoffs, he’s scored in double figures a record 290 times, including a record 261 games with 20+ points, a record 123 games with 30+ points, as well as 29 games with 40+ points and one 50+ point game.

    All-time leader in games played

Earlier this season, James became the NBA’s all-time leader in regular-season games played (now at 1,622 at season’s end). During that time, he’s played against 36% of all players in NBA history. He also leads all players in playoff games (292) and can reach the 300-game benchmark with a first-round series win.

All-time leader in field goals made

No player in NBA history has made more buckets than James in the regular season (15,961) or in the playoffs (8,229). Of those playoff buckets, 480 have come from beyond the arc, as James ranks third behind Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson for the most 3-pointers made in playoff history.

    All-time leader in minutes played

James leads all players in minutes played in both the regular season (61,029) and playoffs (12,062). That is the equivalent of 42.38 days in the regular season and 8.38 days in the playoffs.

    Top 5 all-time in assists

James is one of only four players in NBA history to rack up over 12,000 assists, with his 12,016 dimes trailing only Stockton, Jason Kidd and Chris Paul. In the playoffs, James’ 2,095 assists rank second only to Magic Johnson.

    Top 5 all-time in triple-doubles

All-around play has always been at the core of James’ game, as evidenced by his 125 regular-season triple-doubles (fifth all-time) and his 28 playoff triple-doubles (second all-time, just two behind Johnson).

James also has the most such games in NBA history:

    • 20+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists (971 games)
    • 25+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists (729 games)
    • 30+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists (426 games)

    LeBron vs. everybody

James is the only player in NBA history to post 40 points or more in a game against all 30 teams. He is also one of only three players (along with Russell Westbrook and Luka Dončić) to post triple-doubles against all 30 NBA franchises.

    An MVP Race fixture

With four Kia MVPs, LeBron is tied with Wilt Chamberlain for the third-most in NBA history behind Abdul-Jabbar (six), Michael Jordan, and Bill Russell (five each). James has finished in the top five in MVP voting 14 times, including 13 consecutive years from 2006-18.

In addition to his four MVP wins, LeBron has four second-place finishes, tied with Larry Bird and Jerry West for the most runner-ups. James has top-two finishes in MVP voting across three different decades:

    • 2000s: Second in 2005-06; first in 2008-09
    • 2010s: First in 2009-10, 2011-12 & 2012-13; second in 2013-14 & 2017-18
    • 2020s: Second in 2019-20

    Most combined wins

No player has more wins across the regular season (1,048, second to Abdul-Jabbar) and the playoffs (an NBA record 184) than James’ 1,232 combined. James has more playoff wins than 21 active NBA franchises.

    The only nine with more:

    • Los Angeles Lakers (466)
    • Boston Celtics (429)
    • Philadelphia 76ers (250)
    • San Antonio Spurs (222)
    • Golden State Warriors (217)
    • New York Knicks (210)
    • Detroit Pistons (190)
    • Chicago Bulls (187)
    • Oklahoma City Thunder (186)

    Most Playoff series wins

Over his first 18 playoff appearances, James racked up an NBA record 41 playoff series wins. He is 15-3 record in the first round, 12-3 in the conference semifinals, 10-2 in the conference finals and 4-6 in the NBA Finals. James’ 41 series wins are more than 24 active franchises.

    The only six with more:

    • Los Angeles Lakers (112)
    • Boston Celtics (94)
    • Golden State Warriors (48)
    • Philadelphia 76ers (48)
    • San Antonio Spurs (45)
    • New York Knicks (45)

Only one to win Finals MVP with 3 different teams

James has been named Finals MVP during each of his four championship runs, giving him the second-most Finals MVPs in league history behind Jordan’s six. James is the only player to win the award while playing for three different teams: the Miami Heat (2012, 2013), the Cleveland Cavaliers (2016) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2020).

    An NBA Finals staple

James has participated in 12.7% of all NBA Finals ever played (10 of 79). His 10 Finals appearances are tied with Abdul-Jabbar for the third most all-time, behind Russell (12) and Sam Jones (11). James’ run of eight straight Finals appearances (2011-2018) is only matched by the Russell-era Celtics teams of the 1950s and 1960s.

Only member of the 10K-10K-10K club

James is the only player in NBA history to tally at least 10K points, 10K rebounds, and 10K assists over the course of a career. No other player possesses the 10K-rebound and 10K-assist combo — Westbrook is the closest, but only reaches 9,000 rebounds.

James ends the 2025-26 season with career totals of 43,440 points, 12,095 rebounds, and 12,016 assists.

Averaging 20+ points in record 23rd season

Not only is James the first player to play 23 NBA seasons, but he’s also averaged at least 20 points in every one of those seasons, including a record 20-season run averaging 25+ points (2004-05 through 2023-24).

Adding in his points and rebounds, James has averaged at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists for 23 straight seasons. No other player has a streak longer than 10 seasons.

    The double-digit scoring streak

James scored at least 10 points in 1,297 games from Jan. 6, 2007 to Dec. 1, 2025. His streak was longer than every NBA career except for these 25 players.

When the streak was broken on Dec. 4, 2025, James had eight points with the ball in his hands in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter in a tie game against the Raptors. Rather than looking to keep his scoring streak intact, James dished the game-winning assist to Rui Hachimura, who buried a corner 3-pointer at the buzzer.

    Most All-Star selections

Earlier this season, James earned his 22nd consecutive All-Star selection. That extended his record for the most selections ever, which began in his second NBA season (2004-05).

In addition to being the NBA’s all-time scoring leader in the regular season and playoffs, James also has the most points in NBA All-Star history with 449.

    Most All-NBA selections

With a record 21 selections, James has earned All-NBA honors in more seasons than the entire careers of every NBA player in history, outside of these seven:

    • LeBron James (23 seasons)
    • Vince Carter (22)
    • Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Robert Parish, Chris Paul, and Kevin Willis (21 each)

With 13 All-NBA First Team selections, James has two more than any player in league history, topping Kobe Bryant and Malone with 11 apiece.

Scoring as a youngster … and as a veteran

James is the only player in NBA history to score 40+ points as both a teenager and a 40-year-old.

    • Teenager (3x): 41 points vs. Nets on March 27, 2004 (19 years, 88 days old), 43 points vs. Pistons on Nov. 24, 2004 (19y, 330d), 40 points at Hawks on Dec. 28, 2004 (19y, 364d)
    • 40+ Year Old (2x): 40 points at Blazers on Feb. 20, 2025 (40y, 52d), 42 points vs. Warriors on Feb. 6, 2025 (40y, 38d)

James is the only player in NBA history with multiple 40+ point games in his 40s. His three 40+ point games as a teenager are second all-time behind rookie Cooper Flagg (four).

  • Hundreds of sex toys thrown around during California anti-ICE protest

Hundreds of sex toys were thrown around outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown LA by anti-ICE protesters on Saturday afternoon, and several people were arrested after police ordered the crowds to disperse.

The demonstration against tactics used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers got underway at about noon, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Bruce Cross said.

Videos posted on X by Frontline TPUSA showed protesters attaching colorful sex toys to fences, tossing them at law enforcement vehicles and waving “explicit” signs, KTLA reported.

The demonstration was billed as (expletive) ICE. Hence, the sex toys.

The non-permitted protest was attended by 200 to 300 people. By 2 p.m., officials at the scene declared an unlawful assembly after protesters overtook the streets and blocked the flow of traffic, Cross said.

The area of Alameda Street between Aliso and Temple streets was then shut down, as well as Commercial Street between the 101 Freeway ramps and Alameda Street, he said.

Officers arrested roughly a half-dozen people who refused to leave the area, Cross said.

The streets were reopened around 4 p.m., he said.
