  • Man who claims he spent 18 days in heaven makes chilling confession about meeting Jesus

Man who claims he spent 18 days in heaven makes chilling confession about meeting Jesus

A man who nearly died after suffering a traumatic brain injury following a skateboarding accident revealed what he saw and heard when meeting ‘Jesus’.

At 20 years old, Gabe Poirot fell off his skateboard while going around 30mph without a helmet to protect his head in 2019.

One moment he was on his electric board, and the next moment, he said he was suddenly in Jesus’s throne room as he was placed in a coma for 18 days.

“Like a hand right out of the glove. I found myself looking down at my own body, but it wasn’t me,” he said, per the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Describing what he saw, he revealed in previous conversations that Christ was 5ft 11in to 6ft tall with ‘darker-toned skin…. close to Middle Eastern’, medium-length hair with a slight curl pattern and he was approximately 33 years old.

Gabe’s friend, John Michael, who was riding with him that day told the outlet: “He was lying unconscious on the ground. Eyes were closed; we’re praying over him. Speaking over him like, ‘Gabe, you’re going to live. You’re not going to die. You’re going to live. You’re not going to die.’ Just, you know, over and over again.”

Gabe revealed of this prayer: “I witnessed his prayers. And I also knew in the midst of a moment that is so intense, I had no fear. By the time the ambulance had gotten there, honestly, I was suctioned up by light to this tunnel of light, suctioned me up out of there.”

After Gabe was in a ‘very, very critical’ state down on Earth, beyond that, he said he was being ‘suctioned up to an appointment with Him’.

Gabe revealed: “It was like this city of pure glory, pure light, pure love. But then as the closer I got to the center of the city, He was – He was there waiting for me. Seeing Him changed everything.”

Speaking to Fox News’ Saturday in America with Kayleigh McEnany just yesterday (4 October), Gabe said Jesus has been ‘misrepresented’, confessing that he’s not the man he has been depicted.

Gabe claimed: “Now, with every single person I meet, I tell them of the love of Christ and that he did it all for them. And he died and rose for again. And I love how, you know, all these other testimonies they didn’t meet a female Jesus, they didn’t meet a soft or passive Jesus. Jesus is a man.

“And especially in America, he’s been misrepresented. There are so many cultural things that present him as if he’s some tolerant guy. That’s not the Jesus I met, he’s a lion. But he’s not a lion angry against me, he’s a lion angry for me. He’s a mustang on my behalf. He did it all for me.”

He continued: “Pure fire. He was 5’11” like six feet, yet tall as eternity. Like an ocean of love yet his eyes were burning white and red at the same time. Talk about testosterone, like a mustang, I’m telling you. He’s the lion of Juda and there’s a roar within his voice. “

The claim that Jesus was both ‘angry’ and displayed ‘red’ eyes is a shocking change from how he usually looks in imagery throughout history. But that’s what Gabe said he saw of Christ.

Gabe said in his CBN interview that he could see ‘the prayers of the saints, the sons and daughters of God’ from ‘heaven’s perspective’.

He said of what he saw: “They were gathered up into this bowl, this golden bowl, every single one of them. And literally they are presented to the throne room of heaven, and all of heaven stands at attention because our prayers are the Father’s priority. God delights in our prayers. He both cries with us and rejoices with us at the same time. It’s… it was so beautiful of a picture.”

Gabe remained in a coma for 18 days until Ginger, a family friend, came to the hospital and prayed over him.

It was like that moment spoke to Gabe from beyond the veil.

Gabe said of his last moments with Jesus: “Closer to the end of my time with Him, these prayers formed a bridge on the Earth. I literally saw these bridges that were being formed. And sure enough, the bridges gathered. And then Jesus united himself with them, and they got bigger. And bigger and bigger. And as everyone was on the Earth, I saw the prayers of those like Ginger. I saw her praying over my body. I saw my parents and my family and my friends, and I saw those prayers go right into the heart of Christ – it was those prayers that I was actually sent back on.”

“When I woke up, I just felt so out of place,” admitted Gabe, revealing that he felt almost foreign in his body.

Gabe explained that he was released from hospital within days, with his doctor calling his healing a ‘miracle’.

However, Gabe attributes it to Jesus, stating: “We are here on the credit of His grace. He has such an amazing plan for all of our lives, and people don’t understand the amount of actually crazy situations the Lord has saved them from, and they have no idea.”

  • Rachel Reid on Upcoming Book ‘Unrivaled’ and Keeping All Those ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Secrets

Rachel Reid on Upcoming Book ‘Unrivaled’ and Keeping All Those ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Secrets

Heated Rivalry author Rachel Reid has been hitting the road on a book tour for the deluxe edition of the hockey romance novel. She’s a bit stressed about it, but not for the reason you might think.

Filming on season two of Heated Rivalry — the Jacob Tierney-created show adapted from Reid’s Game Changers series — is underway. And while the author’s been to set, she’s trying not to spill any spoilers.

“Going on tour right now is risky because there are a lot of things I can’t talk about,” Reid tells The Hollywood Reporter backstage at her book event in Los Angeles. “It’s just been really fun so far, and I think people are happy to talk about the things that they already know about.”

In some ways, things have changed considerably for Reid over the last year after the television adaptation of her 2019 novel, Heated Rivalry, became a cultural phenomena. Prior to the show, Reid’s fictional hockey universe already had legions of fans — it’s one of the things that drew Tierney to the novels in the first place — and the attention on her work has only multiplied in the near-year since the show premiered.

The book and series focus on the complicated romance of Canadian hockey prodigy Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Russian phenom Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), who are the fierce on-ice rivals and the league’s best players. They’re the only two characters in Reid’s fictional hockey universe to get two books: Her 2022 novel The Long Game serves as a sequel to Heated Rivalry.

While season two of the show, based mainly on The Long Game, looms closer, so does the next chapter in the Game Changers series, Unrivaled. The upcoming book, set to be published in June 2027, continues Shane and Ilya’s story. Reid can’t say to much about that either.

“I’m sure people have very burning questions they’d like to ask, but obviously I can’t talk about it,” she says. “But this time next year, we’ll have all those answers.”

    ***

It’s been a crazy year, obviously. How are you feeling right now?

I think right now I’m feeling quite excited about a lot of things because there’s so many things on the horizon. Season one coming out — even just knowing that there was going to be a show and then it getting announced — all of that was exciting and wild and unpredictable. But the fact that I get to do it again is really cool. Filming’s happening right now, and so I can have that to enjoy right now. But then [there’s] looking forward to season two being released and also my new book being released next year as well. Right now, there’s just a lot to look forward to, and I feel more comfortable with everything now too. Especially [because] I actually know the people making the show now, so it’s starting to feel a little more normal.

Like this is your new baseline?

Yeah. I mean, it still feels unbelievable every day, but also I think I’m starting to accept it as normal.

While you were writing again for Unrivaled, was there a supporting character that you found a new way in for or a new appreciation this time around?

I’ve been writing maybe a little more of Scott Hunter into this book than I have into other Ilya and Shane books. He’s more of an important side character, so that’s definitely one.

Where do you think that came from?

I just really like the way he interacts [with them], with Ilya especially. I think that dynamic’s very fun. I left him in The Long Game as maybe having this burgeoning friendship [with Shane and Ilya], and I wanted to play with that. That’s one character for sure. I tried to do a little more with Yuna, as well. And, honestly, all of the women. Like Rose and Svetlana, I like to try to include a little more of them into the story. I think a lot of the side characters that are popular.

With so many more eyes on the books these days, did anything open up a new point of view for you at all?

Yeah. It’s been challenging writing the book knowing how big the expectations are, so a lot of this year has been me trying to not focus too much on that. But I am interested in other people’s opinions on what I write. I wouldn’t say I made any huge decisions based on what fans are saying, but I try to consider it while I’m writing.

When into the show starting to air did you kind of realize that something was happening?

Honestly, when the trailer dropped because people watched it so much. I did a bookstore event, I think it was the day after the trailer dropped, and we played the trailer at the event. Everybody in the audience knew every word of the trailer. I told everyone at the show that, and I was like, “I think this might be a hit.” I’ve never seen people memorize a trailer like this in one day. Definitely that, and when HBO picked it up too, just before it aired, that was a good sign. But I think by episode three it was like, “OK, this is really hitting.” Which was only the second week because the first two came out the first week. It was fast.

Jacob has often said that from the beginning he wanted to take the books seriously. I assume as the author, that’s what you want, right?

He told me that right away when we first talked about it, that he wanted to take it seriously and he wanted to make it for adults. He didn’t want to shy away from the sex scenes, and he wanted to make sure that they were important part of the story, all of it. That meant a lot to me as the author. But also as a fan of romance as a genre, which doesn’t get a ton of respect outside of the romance world, it meant a lot.

How has your relationship with social media changed during all of this?

I would say the most difficult part to get used to was I can’t just post a little flippant joke or really say anything without thinking, “Do I want this to go viral as a headline on a bunch of outlets or social media accounts?” Even on this tour, every event I do, there’s quotes being pulled from it and turned into headlines. It’s just something to think about. I do have a very dry sense of humor that leans a little dark sometimes, or a little mean. Sometimes I want to make a joke, but then I’m like, I don’t know that people will get this as a joke. Or even if they do, when it turns into headline format, it doesn’t look like a joke anymore.

It’s has to be a little frustrating then, particularly when you’re saying something in context.

The out-of-context thing is the thing to be the most wary of and just know that it will happen. Just be careful. I’ve definitely learned that lesson many times this year, and I’m trying to get better. It’s just amplified. I went from having, I think it was something like 7,000 followers. Maybe it was a little more than that. I can’t actually remember. But now it’s, I don’t know, over 400,000, which is a lot for an author. There’s a huge difference between saying something that 7,000 people are going to see [versus] 400,000, so [it’s] something to keep in mind.

You have been posting through the editing process. I saw your Instagram story the other day about putting three fingers in a mouth. (Laughs).

That was just a line I came to in one of the scenes. I was like, wait, that’s terrible. I’m going to make it two, so when you see that, it’s two now.

There was a thought about three.

Yeah, originally it was three. I was like, that’s too many. Taking it out.

What made you want to come back to Shane and Ilya?

I always did, but I didn’t want to do it in a cash-grabby kind of way. I wanted to make sure there was an actual story to tell. I originally thought the only way to continue the story would be short stories. I just didn’t think there was a full novel there, but this actually ended up being the longest book I’ve written yet. There was definitely story there. Part of the desire was knowing that the show was about to start filming because it just made me start thinking about them a lot. I was reading Jacob’s scripts. It got them back into my head a lot, which got them talking in my head. I started writing early last year, I just started playing around with a few scenes to see how they worked. Before, I was trying to write this Luca Haas book that I had to abandon because Ilya and Shane kept taking it over. I was like, all right, obviously, I want to write about them again, so I’m going to do it.

I’m still holding out hope for the Luca book.

I am too. I really hope that a really good idea comes to me. I’m sure it will because Luca’s very fun to write to.

One of the most interesting things from the show’s popularity has been so many people coming to the books and showing such love for these characters, like Luca, who truthfully isn’t in the book much.

    No, barely in there.

They become such favorites and beloved. Has that been rewarding for you? What has that been like?

In the last few weeks, it’s been a real increase in people demanding a Luca book and just generally wanting to know more about Luca. Probably part of that is the casting of Edvin Ryding, who has a massive fan base. That has to be a contributing factor because there’s not a ton of him in the books. But I always wrote that character as like, “Hey, would you guys like a book about this guy?” I know I was doing that, so it’s definitely my fault. But I think it’s neat. There’s other characters too. People really love Wyatt Hayes. There’s been interest in a book about him or the coach [of Ottawa] — these happily married characters that they want me to break them up. To me, there’s some characters that I think maybe have a book of them and some who are just enjoyable side characters.

  • Photographer who took photos of people after one, two and three glasses of wine does same experiment a decade on

Photographer who took photos of people after one, two and three glasses of wine does same experiment a decade on

The man who became famous for snapping pictures of his friends on a night out is back with a new host of faces.

Back in 2016, Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti embarked on The Wine Experiment, a project which involved taking photos of people before and then after they’d consumed one, two and three glasses of wine.

The series perfectly captured how the participants appeared visibly more relaxed as the wine flowed, something which all of us who’ve been on a night out will be familiar with.

Ten years on, the images have hs since gone viral, reflecting the playful nature of how alcohol lowers a person’s inhibitions, which, in this case, allowed them to pose more freely for the camera.

Alberti has also marked his project’s decade anniversary by recreating it once again, this time using subjects from Superfrico bar in Las Vegas’ Cosmopolitan hotel – and the results are just as extraordinary.

Take a look at some of the results below:

    Pretty cool, huh.

According to Alberti, the project started as a means for him to test out the phrase ‘The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love, and the third glass is about mayhem’, and snapping photographs of people after each round of drinks seemed like the perfect way to do so.

Recalling the visual changes he noted during the original 2016 experiment, Alberti previously told Mamamia that subjects had arrived ‘stressed’ by work and traffic. Wanting to capture the stress as the starting point of the series, Alberti snapped an image straight away before the booze started flowing.

“It was very funny to see how they interact before and after wine,” he said, noting that the alcohol allowed the subjects to relax and open up to each other.

    “They all became friends.”

How does alcohol impact our actions?

Now that we’ve seen visual evidence for the fact that alcohol acts as a social lubricant, what’s the science behind it?

According to NI Direct, alcohol travels via the bloodstream to the heart, brain, kidneys, and liver, with the latter then getting to work on breaking it down. It’s also estimated to take around 10 minutes to impact a person’s behaviour, with light or moderate alcohol consumption allowing people to feel more relaxed and sociable.

However, this isn’t a free ticket to drink whenever and whatever, as UK Chief Medical Officers recommend drinking no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, spread out across three days.

Wine drinking isn’t the only series Alberti is famous for, as he also masterminded the X-rated ‘O Project’ which included photographing participants before, during and after orgasming.

Woman ‘fobbed off’ by doctors issues stark reminder to others after lump turned out to be cancer

A mum of two who was deemed ‘too young for cancer’ has warned others to push back against dismissive health advice.

Back in June, Lauren Ratcliffe discovered a lump in her breast and booked an appointment with her GP.

However, she believes she was ‘fobbed off’ by the doctor, who told her the lump was likely hormonal as she was due on her period, even though she has a history of breast cancer in the family.

“I took her word for it at the time,” the 36-year-old recalled. “But after my cycle, the lump was still there. I kept mentioning it to my husband, and he said: ‘You really need to go back and get it checked again and get a second opinion.’”

Lauren returned to her GP and saw a different doctor, who this time referred her for further testing.

After undergoing an ultrasound, biopsy and two mammograms in August, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and informed that the disease had spread to her armpit.

Lauren made an appointment with her GP after finding a lump, only to be told that it was likely hormonal (SWNS)

The diagnosis also meant that Lauren was the fifth woman, and also the youngest, member of her family to be diagnosed with cancer.

Reflecting on receiving the diagnosis, the teaching assistant said that life had since been ‘really tough’ for her, adding: “At first it felt like a nightmare. I struggled terribly with sleep. I’d drift off and then suddenly wake up again with the thought, ‘You’ve got cancer’.

“I do have good and bad days, but the key is to stay positive.”

She is now likely to undergo chemotherapy to shrink the tumour, followed by an operation to remove cancerous tissue. Her husband has also set up a GoFundMe to help the family with the financial cost of her treatment.

“We’ve tried to keep life as normal as possible for our children,” Lauren explained, adding that her husband, Andy, 41, struggled mentally with the news.

“There will come a point when treatment starts and they see me becoming unwell, and that will be difficult,” she added.

She was later diagnosed with breast cancer after going for a second appointment (SWNS)

“I’ve had to prepare them for the possibility that I may lose my hair, but I’ve explained that it’s all part of getting better.”

Lauren, who shares Tyler, 16 and Chloe, 12, with her husband, is also keen to urge others to advocate for their health.

“My message is simple: check yourself every month. If you find a lump or notice anything that doesn’t feel right, go straight to your GP,” she said.

“Just be strong. Don’t take no for an answer. Any lump should be referred to hospital for further investigation. If you feel you’re being ignored, go back and get a second opinion.

“Sometimes I think about what could have happened if I’d simply accepted what I was first told and not gone back,” she continued.

    “That’s quite a frightening thought.”

Influencer diagnosed with ‘brain on fire’ reveals terrifying first symptoms

A woman who was diagnosed with encephalitis described how the first symptoms ended up with her getting sectioned while she didn’t know what was happening to her.

Sabrina Bahsoon is an influencer who on 19 March made a video of herself on the London Underground with friends, but her trouble started when she got home that day and ‘just started hysterically crying’, with Sabrina left ‘screaming, shouting, acting very psychotic’ and she didn’t know at the time it was her first episode of psychosis.

What she actually had was anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a rare condition where the immune system attacks chemical receptors in the brain, your body starts fighting your mind.

It’s depicted in the film Brain on Fire, and research into the condition has found that ‘dramatic psychiatric symptoms’ can show in as many as 60 percent of autoimmune encephalitis cases.

The morning afterwards, Sabrina was ‘acting super strange’, and having told her sisters she’d just broken up with her boyfriend they decided to get over to her as soon as possible.

Sabrina was misdiagnosed at first and it wasn't until her parents pushed for more tests that doctors worked out the truth (sabrinabahsoon/ TikTok)

Sabrina was misdiagnosed at first and it wasn’t until her parents pushed for more tests that doctors worked out the truth (sabrinabahsoon/ TikTok)

“Thank god, because I don’t know what I would do if I was alone,” Sabrina said.

“When they came over I started going even crazier, I was posting TikTok videos, I don’t know if anyone saw that, of me screaming, shouting at the camera, I started crying, trying to hurt myself and my sisters ended up calling the ambulance.”

She was taken to hospital and she stayed for two days there, describing how she screamed the entire time and didn’t get any sleep.

Her condition deteriorated, but she was discharged by the emergency room and Sabrina said she was starting to lose memories at this point, but knew she went back home.

When she started having violent outbursts and trying to hit things her family called paramedics, and the paramedics called the police who put Sabrina in handcuffs to restrain her.

Back at the hospital, she was sedated as she was ‘violent with anyone who comes near me’, and the decision was made to section her, with Sabrina transferred to a mental hospital and incorrectly diagnosed with psychosis.

Kept in a mental hospital with the wrong diagnosis for two months, Sabrina was on anti-psychotic medication that she wasn’t responding to because it wasn’t appropriate for her encephalitis.

She lost about 12kg and described being in a ‘catatonic state’, and eventually her dad pushed for her to get more tests done, which at last identified what was actually happening to her, with the mental hospital apologising.

On 18 June she was at least able to go through with an operation to treat her, and though the operation risked the loss of her ovaries she fortunately didn’t have that happen to her, finally getting discharged in July.

Now she’s figuring out getting back to her life and dealing with spending several months of it going through absolute hell.

“Sabrina has been through something most of us can’t imagine, and the way she has fought her way back is remarkable,” Thomas Drachkovitch of Dream Bay Group said.

“She’s sharing her story so that others might recognise anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis sooner, and we’re so grateful for all the support she’s received.”

  • Woman who was abandoned in a phone box as a newborn baby does incredible act for stranger who saved her

Woman who was abandoned in a phone box as a newborn baby does incredible act for stranger who saved her

At just hours old, a defenceless baby was left abandoned in a public phone box.

During the early hours of 30 April 1994, the innocent newborn was left alone with the umbilical cord still attached and nothing to identify where she had come from.

It was only due to the incredible kindness of a neighbour, who was using the public phone to call his family overseas, that the police were informed and the baby was brought into the care system.

Now aged 32, and with little memory of her early childhood, April, named after the month she was found, has bravely told LADbible of her story.

And after attempting to get answers from her birth mother, she has now been able to reconnect with the heroic stranger who gave her a second chance at life, who has since become ‘like a father’ to her.

April as a baby (April Paul)

April as a baby (April Paul)

“He thought I was a packet of fish and chips”

April was mere hours old when her biological mum left her.

She had been born at home without the help of nurses or medical professionals, before being put in a baby grow and abandoned in a West London street.

Wrapped up, she was left in a public phone box on the junction of Dames Road and Clinton Road in Forest Gate.

Defenceless and developing hypothermia, April could’ve been dead within hours.

But when Joe Campbell, now 62, went in to use the phone box in the early hours of the morning, he knew he had to act.

Calling the police, he stayed with April who was immediately taken into the care system.

At the time, notices were being plastered in local newspapers. Naming her the ‘abandoned baby’, social services distributed images of her and pleaded with someone with information to come forward.

Appeals to trace April's mum were shared (April Paul)

April was fostered and later adopted, when Joe, who had been sending her cards and gifts as well as visiting her, was told he had to stop and that April could try to trace him again if she wanted to at age 18.

Speaking to LADbible, April explained: “It was really sad actually. My mum had given birth to me at home in the middle of the night and then straight away she abandoned me.

“My mum never came forward. Maybe she was scared. Maybe she was embarrassed. But she never did.

“Joe would use the phone box every other day to call his mum in Guyana and they’d always pick up. He’d go at 10pm. That night, they didn’t answer, so he was worried.

“He went home and then returned to the phone box at 2am, which was when he found me. As he got closer to the phone box, he thought he saw rubbish on the floor. Then he thought it was a packet of fish and chips, but it was me.”

April has opened up about her life story (April Paul)

“I knew I’d have to find him again”

Police took April to the hospital as she was suffering from hypothermia. Although social services immediately began taking over April’s care, Joe never forgot about her.

“He found me, but it didn’t end there,” April explained. “He was calling every day asking how I was. ‘How is baby April?’… That was what he called me.

“He would go into social services to see me and they let him take a picture holding me, which we both still have today.

“Every year he would gather money and presents for me and write me cards for my birthday. But then when I turned seven and was adopted, he was told to stop.

“Then when I found out I was adopted I got given a life story book, and the only good stuff in it was about Joe. I knew some day I’d have to find him again.

“Social services just said they couldn’t give me any more information and that I could find him again when I turned 18. So years and years just went by.”

April was adopted by another family (April Paul)

April was adopted by another family (April Paul)

After being adopted by an older family, April said her childhood was ‘really really tough’, quickly caring for siblings and her terminally-ill adoptive mum. She also suffered abuse at the hands of someone older than her.

She was bullied in school over students who denied her harrowing story was ever real and was singled out simply because she looked different to her new family.

“My adoptive parents were brilliant, but they were far older,” she said.

“You know, my mum ended up very sick. So, I never had a mum.

“I don’t remember having a mum. I just literally remember caring for her and being left to it.

“Everything fell apart slowly. Mum got sicker and sicker. Dad was always working, and the person that was mistreating me continued to a point that it damaged me so, so badly.”

April lived just minutes from eight siblings and birth mum

In an unbelievable twist, April was completely unaware that she was growing up just five minutes away from siblings she didn’t know about, and her birth mum who had abandoned her years earlier.

Desperate for answers, April issued a public news appeal in 2016 asking for her birth mum and Joe to come forward.

Although 22 years had passed, Joe quickly reached out and the pair connected instantly, but April’s biological mother remained silent.

“Within 24 hours Joe was there,” April said. “And we just hugged straight away.

April and Joe instantly connected (April Paul)

April and Joe instantly connected (April Paul)

“I can’t explain to anyone how special it was. It’s a bizarre feeling, like I already knew him and he was familiar.

“Maybe it was because he was the first person to have held me that night I was born. But he just felt like my dad, and ever since then, this man has been a dad to me.

“A few people have seen him on the bus and said ‘I knew you saved April’.”

“He comes to my house and brings shopping every time he comes. He single handedly still works and provides for his family. He does everything for everyone.

“And he’s never stopped. He’s amazing. His kids are my siblings now. I love all of them and they are my family.”

April has learnt to accept that she will likely never get the answers she so desperately craved from her birth mother.

After hiring a private investigator, and with the help of one of her eight biological siblings who she found and met for the first time as a teenager in high school, April was able to track down her mother and discovered she had been living mere minutes away her entire life.

“Our meeting was very short-lived,” April told LADbible. “I ended up going to her door one day with my other sibling. She raised five of my siblings with her.

“She knew who I was but didn’t want to talk. I understood even at the time she didn’t want a relationship. It’s sad, but I understand it.

“She never gave me a reason for any of it or explained anything.

“She never gave us the explanation or have a conversation with us. I’m a mum and I’ve been through things, but you fight through it.”

April’s incredible act for stranger who ‘saved her life’

April, now in a stable relationship and a mum herself, is planning an incredible act for Joe. Due to his declining health, she is trying to raise enough money to support him in retiring.

So far, more than £18,000 has been raised online for the selfless hero who gave April ‘a chance at life’.

“Joe is one of the kindest, most selfless people I have ever known,” she said “He deserves a retirement filled with comfort, peace and the freedom to enjoy life after spending decades putting others first.

“This fundraiser is my way of giving something back to the man who gave me everything without even knowing it.

“He has taught me what family means. His kids still treat me like a sibling. It’s truly magical. It’s like we’ve just always been together.

“It’s given me a lot of strength, a lot of love, and it’s helped me to love people more in return, openly and honestly.

“I am desperate to help him get retired. He’s had two knee replacements and is in so much pain, but would never ask for help. He’s always just give, give, give, but won’t ever stop working because he wants to keep providing.

“I really believe that people like Joe, who is just the kindest angel on Earth, deserve it.”

Despite her relationship with Joe and their blended family, April says she regularly thinks about what could’ve happened had he not have found her in the phone box that night.

“Every time I see Joel, I ask how the stars aligned in this way,” she explained.

“I think about how I got so blessed. How it was Joe who found me. I went through so much and never knew I had a family like this waiting.

“We are meant to be. We are like glue and we just clicked.

“I’m not joking. If he didn’t come back out to use the phone box, it could’ve been anyone, or no-one. I had hypothermia, and there were lots of foxes around that night.

    “He saved my life.”

  • Doctor issues warning over ‘secondhand’ vape exposure around children

Doctor issues warning over ‘secondhand’ vape exposure around children

Vaping was once presented as a safer alternative to cigarettes but a new study has identified how e-cigarettes can be harmful for both smokers and their kids.

Although e-cigarettes can still be used by those who want to stop smoking and want to cut down, they have become prevalent in all parts of society, particularly in the UK and US.

While the government has tried to stop the sale of disposable vapes and also clamp down on shops who were selling them to under-16s, it’s impossible to go out in the UK without seeing at least one teenager sucking on their vape like their life depends on it.

Numerous studies in recent years have emphasised that vaping can be just as bad for our long-term health, particularly with the regularity in which people inhale the smoke in comparison to cigarettes, and it seems as if that excessive smoke might also be doing some damage to anyone who inhales the smoke secondhand.

A new study, which analysed more than 48,000 doctor visits for kids who suffer from asthma, found that the odds of asthma attacks rose in homes where someone uses a vape.

Lead author Dr Brian Jenssen, an associate professor of paediatrics and a paediatrician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said: “Many parents believe e-cigarettes are a safer alternative to cigarettes, both for themselves and for their children’s health. Our findings suggest that assumption doesn’t fully hold up for kids with asthma.”

Overall, nine per cent of visits had both tobacco and e-cigarettes in the child’s home, five per cent reported use of tobacco only and three per cent reported vaping only, a figure which you feel would be significantly higher in the UK given the popularity of vaping over here.

But whether you’re smoking one cigarette a day or going through a whole vape each morning, the risk is still there when it comes to second-hand smoke, with the study making it clear that it was still linked with a higher incidence of asthma flares and activity-linked symptoms in kids.

Vaping has become popular even among non-smokers (Getty Stock)

He added: “There is no safe level of tobacco or e-cigarette exposure when it comes to children. Parents and caregivers who use any tobacco or nicotine products should make every effort to quit.”

Previous advice for smokers has been to switch to vaping at first but given their addictive nature, and the dangers that have been exposed in recent years, that advice might well change now.

Jenssen instead suggests that those who want to quit should consider ‘evidence-based options like varenicline, nicotine replacement therapy and counselling’.

Considering the UK recently made another major change in the vaping market, it’s clear that those in government aren’t too keen on the popularity of vapes and its obvious impact on the nation’s health.

And this study only emphasises further why anyone hoping to look after their own health, and hopefully their children’s as well, should avoid smoking at all costs.

Tilda Swinton to Release Debut Memoir ‘Material Evidence’: “A Book About Curiosity”

Tilda Swinton is set to publish her debut memoir, Material Evidence, in the fall of 2028.

The book, published through Farrar, Straus and Giroux, “refuses the shape of a conventional life story, in favor of something closer to how memory actually works: associative, sensory, anchored in things,” according to a post shared on the publisher’s Instagram account on Thursday.

Unlike many memoirs, Material Evidence will not follow a chronological format. Instead, the book will tell Swinton’s story through objects, including “a christening dress, a letter, a wooden leg, a sweatshirt, a length of embroidery silk [and] a photograph.”

“Material Evidence is a book about curiosity,” Swinton said in the post. “A trail of breadcrumbs through the forest. And an essay in wonder: I hope that by the time it closes, its reader might feel affirmed and recharged with energy to value the difference between that elusive spirit that we each, uniquely, constitute, which changes constantly — evolving and developing — and that solid matter which stays the same in its essence — and consistently repays and feeds us, the world around us and all the things in it that make up our singular lives.”

FSG president Mitzi Angel said in a statement posted to Instagram that she has “long admired Tilda Swinton’s unique way of seeing things.”

“The objects she contemplates in her enchanting book vibrate with meaning and memory — and through that contemplation she brings us the story of life,” Angel added. “Material Evidence is full of humor, insight and appreciation for detail that might otherwise go unnoticed. I couldn’t be more delighted that Tilda Swinton joins FSG with this extraordinarily unusual and moving book.”

Material Evidence is Swinton’s second published book. The Oscar winner released her first book, Tilda Swinton: Ongoing, in September 2025. An art book highlighting her career, fashion and artistic collaborations, Ongoing was published under Rizzoli International Publications.

Swinton told press at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2025 that she was looking forward to doing “something different” after a 40-year career in film. The winner of an Oscar, a BAFTA and a European Film Award, Swinton has starred in several critically acclaimed movies and blockbusters, including Michael Clayton and The Chronicles of Narnia series.

“I can tell you that when I go home on Monday to Scotland, I’m entering something that I’ve been looking forward to for about 15 years — which is a period of my life when I do something different,” Swinton said at the time. “I can’t quite say what it is, but I can say I’m not shooting a film for the rest of this year. I want more time.”

Jamie Lee Curtis to Receive Inaugural Award Inspired by Rob and Michele Reiner at Children’s Institute Gala; John Mayer to Perform

The late Rob and Michele Reiner dedicated countless hours to advocating on behalf many causes and organizations, and one remained close to their hearts for years: Children’s Institute in Los Angeles.

Founded in 1906, the org now serves upwards of 30,000 children and families across the city in underserved neighborhoods by providing education, counseling, parenting support, meeting spots and enrichment programs all under a mission of helping build pathways to success, economic mobility and good health. Not only did the cause align with the Reiners’ broader work with children and families but Michele’s sister, Martine Singer, has served as president and CEO for nearly a decade.

Together with Reiner children, Jake and Romy, Children’s Institute has created the Michele and Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award, an honor designed to recognize the late couple’s “lifelong commitment to improving the lives of children and families and strengthening communities across Los Angeles, throughout California, and beyond.”

The inaugural award will be presented at the org’s Cape & Gown Gala at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California, on Nov. 8, and they’ve zeroed in on a recipient who not only has championed children, families and communities through philanthropy, advocacy and storytelling but was close to the Reiners: Oscar and Emmy winner Jamie Lee Curtis. Also confirmed to perform at the gala is Grammy winner John Mayer, who has ties to the Reiners as well, as he wrote and performed “Say” (aka “Say (What You Need to Say)”) as an original track for the 2007 Rob Reiner-directed dramedy The Bucket List starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.

“I can’t think of a more meaningful way to honor the legacy of my sister Michele and my brother-in-law Rob,” Singer said. “I had the privilege of watching them devote their lives to creating a more just and compassionate world for children and families. Their work was never about recognition — it was about making a lasting difference.”

Both Jake and Romy Reiner offered statements about the meaningful moment. “Our parents taught us what it means to be good, decent human beings. And they didn’t just talk about it; they led by example. They took the unconditional love they had for us and applied it to all their advocacy work, that includes their support for Children’s Institute and our aunt Martine,” said Jake Reiner, who recently spoke with ABC 7 about the tragic murders of his parents.

Added Romy: “Not only were they incredibly proud of Martine for the way that she has led the organization, but they believed so much in the goal of CII. When Martine asked us if they could name the award after them, it was not only an honor but made complete sense. To have our parents’ names connected to CII’s work on behalf of children and families is a meaningful continuation of what they stood for.”

In addition to her screen work as an actress and producer, Curtis is also a bestselling author who has released 14 children’s books, including the New York Times bestsellers Today I Feel Silly and Big Words for Little People. She released the most recent, Just One More Sleep, in 2024. She’s got deep ties to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and has raised nearly $2 million for the organization through her charitable initiative My Hand in Yours. Curtis has long said that she’s guided by the principle of “love and service” in her work, something she applies as a passionate advocate for those in recovery as a sober person herself.

“I am so deeply honored to receive this award as a testament to the extraordinary legacy that Michele and Rob shared with so many of us. They didn’t just create together. They lived a life of service, building something greater than themselves and giving so much to the world around them. And that is something worth honoring again and again,” said Curtis. “The world needs so much more of what they gave us: their love, their courage, and their joy. I am forever grateful to carry a small part of their legacy forward.”

As for the Reiners, they provided leadership in establishing First 5 California through the voter-approved tobacco tax initiative, which raised north of $12.5 billion over the years to support early childhood development, health and school readiness. They also worked tirelessly for civil rights and equality, and helped champion the legal effort that restored marriage rights for same-sex couples in California.
