Olivia Rodrigo officially kicked off the “Unraveled” tour on Friday night with her first show at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, CT. Scroll down to see the setlist as it’s being updated live.

The 86-date tour is in support of Rodrigo’s third album “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” which she released this past June. Following a pair of nights in Hartford, the pop singer will make her way across North America through February 2027, concluding with a 10-night run at both Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome and New York City’s Barclays Center. Then, in March, Rodrigo will jet off to Europe for shows in Amsterdam, Munich and Barcelona before wrapping the tour with a pair of shows at London’s O2 Arena.

Rodrigo already has two tours — “Sour” (2022) and “Guts” (2024-2025) — under her belt. “Guts” was her longest, spanning 102 shows across five continents. It’s currently unknown if Rodrigo plans to add dates in Asia, Australia or South America to the “Unraveled” tour.

This past August, the singer warmed up for the trek with her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields music festival. Rodrigo personally curated the star-studded, women-only lineup consisting of artists including Chappell Roan, Doechii and Garbage, as well as a closing performance from Rodrigo featuring guest appearances from Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan and Stevie Nicks. All net proceeds were donated to charities that support and advocate for women and girls, and as the evening came to a close, Melinda Gates matched the $10 million already raised and brought the total to $20 million.

  • New Music Friday: Madonna x Charli xcx, Natanael Cano, Taylor Swift, Los Gemelos de Sinaloa, Fabiii, and more

New Music Friday: Madonna x Charli xcx, Natanael Cano, Taylor Swift, Los Gemelos de Sinaloa, Fabiii, and more

It’s officially fall, and we’re stepping into a new wave of music. With the MTV Video Music Awards happening Sunday, Sept. 27, the timing couldn’t be better for a fresh batch of releases. From A-list pop moments to Latin hits and unexpected collaborations, get your playlist ready and let’s have some musical fun.

Natanael Cano x Tito Double P x Victor Mendivil x Ovi – OLIVIA LA FLAKA

Mexican superstar Natanael Cano makes a powerful collaboration happen with “OLIVIA LA FLAKA,” featuring Mexican artists Tito Double P and Víctor Mendívil alongside Ovi. Inspired by Olivia, Popeye the Sailor’s wife, the track plays with double entendres while diving into a world of excess. The release lands just days before Cano’s upcoming show at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City and marks his first new song since Natanael Cano, Vol. 1, the project that brought him back to his corridos tumbados roots.

    Fabiii – Distante

Venezuelan singer Fabiii is officially entering a new era with her debut EP, Todos Quieren un Vaivén. The six-track project, out today, features “Distante,” the EP’s final single, and shows off the rising artist’s unique blend of Afrobeat, R&B, funk, reggae, son cubano, and bolero. Inspired by the emotional vaivén of relationships – the push and pull, mixed signals, and uncertainty that can make letting go so difficult – Fabiii turns those complicated feelings into a project that moves freely.

Los Gemelos de Sinaloa, Fuerza Regida – Soy Un Joven

Los Gemelos de Sinaloa kick off fall with The Gemeliza, a 13-track album packed with new music and collaborations that showcase the duo’s evolving sound. The project features four collaborations with Fuerza Regida, including “Chrome Hearts,” “Baby Momma,” “Ferrari,” and “Soy Un Joven,” along with tracks with Calle 24, Blessd, Ovy on the Drums, and El Fantasma. The release also comes at a big moment for Fuerza Regida, who earned two MTV VMAs nominations for Best Group.

DOME, Corina Smith – @BOMBA DE HUMO

Mexican singer-songwriter DOME is turning her internet-era memories into her official musical introduction with La Del Arroba. The 14-track debut album traces her evolution from internet personality to artist, with a 2016-inspired concept.  She had the help of some famous friends like Venezuelan singer Corina Smith, on their smooth and dreamy track, “@BOMBA DE HUMO.” Puerto Rican superstar Ozuna, Spanish viral sensation Omar Montes,  Venezuelan duo 3 AM, and Mexican singer-songwriter Bolela.

    Akapellah – Pedro Cash

Venezuelan rapper Akapellah and Latin GRAMMY Award-winning producer Maffio bring a nostalgic beat and fresh flow with “Pedro Cash.” It acts as Akapellah’s response to the criticism that he changed after success, addressing the phrase, “Akapellah used to be cool.” He gives a nod to Cariaco, the Venezuelan town where he grew up, while showing that reaching a new level doesn’t mean cutting ties with the place that shaped him.

    PLAYA FRÍA – KAPO

Colombian star Kapo is leaning into the messiness of heartbreak with “PLAYA FRÍA,” a Latin Afrobeat track about what happens after a relationship ends. Using the image of a cold beach to represent the distance that comes with a breakup, Kapo explores the process of reconnecting with yourself, accepting a new reality, and figuring out how to move forward. The release follows his collaboration with Wisin, “Muévelo pa Mi,” as well as recent solo tracks “REINA (KRIMINAL)” and “BOMBÓN.”

Miguel Bueno x ONIKX – Un Viaje

Colombian singer Miguel Bueno reflects on instant attraction with “Un Viaje,” a fun and flirty Latin Afrobeat collaboration with fellow Colombian artist and producer ONIKX. The track captures the rush that can come from one look turning into something more, and comes with a music video set on the waves of Colombia.

    Taylor Swift – Patient Zero

Taylor Swift has officially unleashed “Patient Zero,” the first of four new songs on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. Inspired by a real-life conversation involving one of Swift’s friends and her ex’s new girlfriend, the song puts Swift in the role of the woman who has already survived the relationship and is now offering a warning to the person living through it. Swift also directed its music video, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, which is set to make its world premiere at the 2026 MTV VMAs on Sept. 27.

Madonna & Charli xcx – Danceteria

Madonna and Charli xcx are taking their club girl eras to the dance floor with “Danceteria Afterhours,” a new rework of Madonna’s “Danceteria” from Confessions II. It marks the first musical collaboration between the two artists and brings Madonna’s early New York nightlife roots together with Charli’s own electronic-pop beginnings, with Charli adding new verses that reference artists and moments that shaped her career. The collaboration arrives just days before Madonna returns to the MTV VMAs for her first performance at the show in 23 years.

  • Isaac Mizrahi on the ‘Unzipped’ Restoration, the John Galliano Met Gala Fiasco and Why the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Cerulean Blue Speech ‘Makes Me Want to Kill Somebody’

Isaac Mizrahi on the ‘Unzipped’ Restoration, the John Galliano Met Gala Fiasco and Why the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Cerulean Blue Speech ‘Makes Me Want to Kill Somebody’

No doubt Isaac Mizrahi is excited about the release of the newly restored “Unzipped,” the 1995 documentary chronicling a moment in time when he was one of the fashion world’s hottest designers.

However, Mizrahi admits he’s not that eager to watch it. “I have to say I hate looking back,” he tells me. “I hate this whole process, a little bit of looking back.”

What’s so wrong with taking a trip down memory lane?

“I looked so cute, and I look so shitty now,” the 64-year-old Mizrahi says. “I was so agile, and I’m not as agile anymore. My knees hurt. My back hurts. Even my hair. I had such cute dark hair. Oh, well. But it’s not just vanity. It’s more just about the experience of your life. Thirty years! Man, that is crazy.”

Directed by Mizarahi’s then-boyfriend Douglas Keeves, “Unzipped” chronicles the designer’s planning and execution of the show for his fall 1994 collection.

The film, which Miramax bought after it was a Sundance hit in 1995, includes appearances by Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, the late André Leon Talley and Eartha Kitt along with a bevy of other fashion insiders and glitterati.

The film runs at only 73 minutes. “We didn’t intend to make it that short,” Mizrahi remembers. “We wanted it to be longer. There were about 10 minutes of Faye Dunaway that got out because we couldn’t get the rights to run footage from ‘Mommy Dearest.’”

    What?!

“She came to a fitting. She was doing a TV pilot, and she needed a lot of suits,” Mizrahi remembers. “We had her for a day and a half, a fitting that was endless. Being the big gay that I am, I was enthralled by every word out of her mouth. One really hilarious thing that I do remember about Faye Dunaway was that she would look in the mirror, and when she liked something, she’d go, ‘Oh, that’s very Faye. Very Faye.’ Talking about herself in the third person was so fantastic. And I do that now. If I like what I look like, I go, ‘Oh, it’s very Faye.’ It’s like I think of myself as Faye Dunaway.”

I ask Mizrahi what he would tell himself if he could go back three decades. Without missing a beat, he says, “You’re not that fat. Swear to God, that’s what I would tell myself. I used to wear these crazy Fred Mertz kind of high-waisted pleated pants that I made myself because I was so fucking crazy that my waist was big. I was so stupid, and I look stupid, I don’t look chic. I look stupid, and I was perfectly fine. I was not fat. But I was a really fat kid, so I lost 75 pounds in high school. I’m never going to get over that. You never do.”

Mizrahi makes no secret about being on a GLP-1. “I love it,” he coos. “I’m in my 60s, darling and I recently just got so big. I’m usually very good at keeping it under control, but it’s incredible and the rest of your health benefits, it’s incredible.”

At the height of releasing his eponymous collection, he dressed the A-list, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman. After closing shop in 1998, he released various collections under different monikers or designed for other brands altogether. He also launched a show business career with a cabaret act. Most recently, he appeared in “Marty Supreme” as Gwyneth Paltrow’s press agent.

Mizrahi is now the creative director at Target and continues to sell a collection on QVC.

When talking about fashion today, Mizrahi lets out a big sigh. “I don’t know if those giant spectacles they have in Paris and Milan are necessarily supposed to be influential in the way people dress six months later,” he says. “That is why that speech in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ about cerulean blue makes me want to kill somebody because that is so not the way things work. They want you to believe that’s the way it works. I want to shout that from the rooftops, ‘It never has worked that way — never!’” What those spectacles do is they bolster the image of brand names so that they can sell a ton of perfume and handbags and shoes.”

When we talked, it was just a few days after The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced it was no longer moving forward with its planned retrospective for John Galliano that would’ve run from May 9, 2027, to Jan. 9, 2028 and served as the theme of next year’s Met Gala. Galliano, who would have been only the third living fashion designer to be feted by the Met following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 and Rei Kawakubo in 2017, released a statement on Instagram announcing his decision to pull the retrospective amid backlash over his past racist outbursts.

Galliano makes a brief appearance in “Unzipped” at dinner with Mizrahi, Talley and others in Paris. Mizrahi calls Galliano a “genius,” but also says, “When they announced [the Galliano Met Gala], I thought to myself, ‘Wow, who’s going to that?’ I’m not even talking about Jews or donors of the museum. I’m thinking about a celebrity showing up. I don’t know who would show up on that red carpet. No one is going to say, ‘I love John.’ Who’s going to say that?”

Next up could for Mizrahi could be a producer’s hat. He’s developing a television series about the life of legendary and very controversial paparazzi photographer Ron Galella with producer Christine Vachon. “We’re doing it with the Ron Galella estate,” he says. “It’s very exciting. We’re in the first, first, first stages, so we haven’t even pitched it or anything yet. But it’s really such a great idea, only because of what it means culturally to our country.”

“Unzipped” is now showing at the Film Forum in New York City. It will open in Los Angeles at Laemmle Royal and Laemmle Glendale on Oct. 9, followed by a nationwide rollout.

They received awards that year for Best Alternative Video and Best New Artist categories for their track “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” In 1993, “In Bloom” won Best Alternative Video.

  • Fashion’s Musical Chairs: Is Pierpaolo Piccioli Already Out at Balenciaga?

Fashion’s Musical Chairs: Is Pierpaolo Piccioli Already Out at Balenciaga?

In luxury fashion, creative directors used to get years to put their stamp on a house. Lately, they’re lucky to get a few seasons.

The latest possible casualty is Pierpaolo Piccioli, the acclaimed designer who took over Balenciaga only last year. Multiple industry sources say Piccioli is expected to leave the Kering-owned house following his spring/summer 2027 show in Paris on Oct. 1. Neither Balenciaga nor Kering has announced his departure.

If the reports prove true, Piccioli’s remarkably short tenure would be another sign of how unforgiving the luxury business has become. With sales soft across much of the sector, fashion’s biggest conglomerates have been cycling through celebrated designers, hiring them to reinvent major brands and looking quickly for another solution when the numbers disappoint.

What used to be a career-defining appointment has started to look more like a very expensive game of musical chairs.

Piccioli knows the game well. He spent 16 years at Valentino alongside Maria Grazia Chiuri, then ran the house solo after Chiuri left for Dior in 2016. He departed Valentino in 2024 amid industry speculation about slowing sales. Alessandro Michele, himself out at Gucci after that brand stumbled, later took Piccioli’s old job. Demna left Balenciaga for Gucci. Piccioli then replaced Demna at Balenciaga.

His hiring represented a dramatic reset. Demna had turned Balenciaga into a dark, ironic, almost post-punk phenomenon beloved by Kardashians and other fashion-forward celebrities. Piccioli steered it back toward the elegance and femininity associated with Cristóbal Balenciaga — bright color, ruffles, silk and taffeta replacing much of the black, oversized vocabulary of the Demna years.

Piccioli came to Balenciaga with considerable Hollywood currency. During his Valentino years, he dressed Anne Hathaway, Elle Fanning, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Lady Gaga and Cate Blanchett, among others. His menswear could be just as memorable: Pedro Pascal’s 2023 Met Gala look, pairing black shorts with a sweeping red coat, showed Piccioli could do irreverence as easily as classical couture.

But the luxury slump has made even marquee names vulnerable. Gucci parted ways with Michele as its sales weakened. Valentino, now under Michele, has faced its own commercial pressures. Kering, parent company of Gucci, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent, has been under particular scrutiny as it tries to revive some of its biggest brands.

And another chair may soon be empty. Anthony Vaccarello is widely rumored to be leaving Saint Laurent after a decade at the house, though in his case industry talk has it that the decision is his and that he wants to spend more time producing films.

That would set off yet another round of speculation over who goes where next.

  • Mark Piznarski, Director of Milestone ‘Gossip Girl’ Episodes, Dies at 71

Mark Piznarski, Director of Milestone ‘Gossip Girl’ Episodes, Dies at 71

Mark Piznarski, the much sought-after pilot director who helmed the first episodes of series including Gossip Girl, Veronica Mars and Everwood, has died. He was 71.

Piznarski’s name was listed in an “In Memoriam” section in the latest DGA Monthly issue, and a spokesperson for the guild said that he died April 4. The Hollywood Reporter reached out to his daughter, Lauren, who said the family did not want to participate in an obituary.

A teen-drama specialist who started out on My So-Called Life, Piznarski helmed 14 episodes of The CW’s Gossip Girl across all six of its seasons, including the 2007 pilot; the shocking 100th episode, “G.G.,” which premiered during season five in January 2012; and the series finale, “New York, I Love You XOXO,” which bowed in December 2012.

In 2004, he directed the first two installments of the Kristin Bell-starring Veronica Mars, created by Rob Thomas for UPN, and Christopher Lowell’s character on the show, Stosh “Piz” Piznarski, is named for him.

He also helmed the pilots of ABC’s Relativity in 1996; the WB’s Everwood in 2002; Fox’s Still Life in 2003; USA’s In Plain Sight and The CW spinoff 90210 (developed by Thomas) in 2008; and ABC Family’s The Lying Game in 2011.

For the big screen, he called the shots on the romantic drama Here on Earth (2000), starring Chris Klein, Leelee Sobieski and Josh Hartnett, and the coming-of-age tale Looking for Sunday (2006), starring Michael Weston and Katharine Towne (he co-wrote that as well).

Born on July 7, 1954, Piznarski attended Downers Grove South High School in Illinois and the University of Northern Colorado, then spent a couple years at Columbia College in Chicago, which helped him land an assistant-director gig on Edward Zwick’s About Last Night (1986), filmed in the Windy City.

In 1994, he made it to network television by helming four episodes of the only season of ABC’s acclaimed My So-Called Life, executive produced by Zwick for his Bedford Falls Co. Up next, he directed and executive produced on the only season of Relativity, created by Jason Katims.

Piznarski guided six episodes of ABC’s NYPD Blue from 1995-2003 and five installments of NBC’s American Dreams from 2003-05 and worked with Katims again on NBC’s Friday Night Lights in 2006 and CBS’ Pure Genius in 2016.

Piznarski also helmed the 1999 NBC miniseries The 60s; telefilms including 2010’s Sundays at Tiffany’s, starring Alyssa Milano; and episodes of Once and Again, Crisis, Madam Secretary, the Thomas-created iZombie and, for his last credit, Riverdale in 2018.

    Survivors include his son, Michael.

  • Margaret Qualley, Sabrina Carpenter Join Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire Biopic

Margaret Qualley, Sabrina Carpenter Join Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire Biopic

Tom Holland has found his dance partners. Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter are joining the star in his Fred Astaire movie from Sony.

Qualley will play Adele Astaire, Fred’s older sister and Broadway partner. Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers, the frequent film co-star of Fred Astaire.

Paddington filmmaker Paul King is directing the project, which comes after Holland’s big summer as the star of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey.

“I am thrilled and honored to have been entrusted with telling the story of Fred Astaire and his original dance partner — his big sister Adele — to the big screen,” said King in a statement. “Fred left a timeless legacy of dance on film — most famously in his collaborations with Ginger Rogers — while Adele’s work has been lost to history; indeed, no footage of her dancing survives. The cinematic challenge of bringing to life these icons of the twentieth century is one that I could not imagine without Tom Holland, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter by my side.”

Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor produce, along with Holland on behalf of Billy17. Ben Holden and Josh Hyams produce for Lightbulb Pictures. Steven Levenson and King penned the script based on the book The Astaires: Fred & Adele by Kathleen Riley.

Qualley earned a Golden Globe and Critics Choice nomination for The Substance, and an Emmy nomination for FX’s Fosse/Verdon, as well as Emmy, Golden Globe, Actor and Critics Choice nominations her Netflix limited series The Maid. She is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Sloane and Offer.

Carpenter is one of the biggest names in music, with two Grammys and millions of records sold. On the acting side, she has appeared in Work It and The Hate U Give. She is repped by Paradigm, Foundation Media Partners, Volara Management, Perlman Management Group and Goodman Genow.

  • Bryce Dallas Howard on the Declining Statistics for Female Directors in Hollywood: ‘Whatever Is Currently Being Done is Not Enough’

Bryce Dallas Howard is calling on Hollywood to make a change.

While at Variety’s L.A. Power of Women event on Wednesday in Beverly Hills, the actress and filmmaker reflected on the declining statistics for women directors in Hollywood. A 2025 study described the year as a “Great Recession” for female filmmakers, with just nine women directing the 100 top-grossing films at the U.S. box office. That figure corresponds to just 8.1% of female directors (or a ratio of 11.3 men for every woman). In 2024, women accounted for 13.4% of directors of the 100 top-grossing films.

“The facts are that the numbers are an indication of something real,” Howard told Variety senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson. “Whatever is currently being done is not enough.”

Howard speaks from experience: she has directed several episodes of the Star Wars shows “Ahsoka,” “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett” and “The Skeleton Crew,” as well as the feature-length documentaries 2019’s “Dads” and 2025’s “Pets.” In 2021, Howard was announced to direct a reboot of Disney’s “Flight of the Navigator,” but the project is still billed as being in pre-production.

Throughout the industry, Howard has seen a focus on mentorship for female filmmakers, but what Hollywood must prioritize more of, she explained, is sponsorship.

“It’s really difficult to get paid to do the thing that you want to do in this business,” Howard said. “And the amount of time between jobs is so significant that, unless you come from privilege or you have another job that somehow allows you to be flexible, you’re not getting a shot. You’re not even getting a chance, and that has to change.”

Sponsorship is greater than just funding a movie, Howard noted. Companies need to step up to finance the research and development throughout the project — ranging from early workshops to cultivating a team of artists to bring the film to life.

“There are so many brilliant artists and so little support, and it is incumbent upon people like me to make that a reality,” she said. “And I constantly fall short. And I will not quit.”

Next up, Howard directed two episodes of “Ahsoka” Season 2, and said that working on the Star Wars show, starring Rosario Dawson, was one of the “best summers of [her] life.”

“The first season was so fantastic, and to build on that, [creator and Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni] is getting to do a lot of stuff that he’s been waiting decades to do,” Howard said about the action-packed episodes. “Rosario and him are just partners. He trusts himself, but he trusts Rosario just as much.”

Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter Join Tom Holland in Fred Astaire Biopic as Adele Astaire, Ginger Rogers

Tom Holland has found his dance partners for Sony’s yet-to-be-titled Fred Astaire biopic: Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter.

As previously announced, Holland will play the debonair dancer in the upcoming Sony film, directed by Paul King, with Amy Pascal producing. Qualley will star as Adele Astaire and Carpenter will portray as Ginger Rogers. Fred and Adele were major stars on Broadway and London’s West End before Fred went on to be one of cinema’s greatest stars, with co-star and dance partner Ginger Rogers.

Holland revealed he’s already started rehearsing for the part, which was first announced five years ago.

Speaking about getting the script from Pascal, he previously told reporters, “She FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath,” he said with a laugh. “And we had a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire.”

Holland shared further details earlier this summer when he appeared on “Good Morning America.” After starring in the back-to-back blockbusters “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “The Odyssey,” Holland teased, “I’m diving back into the dance studio.”

Holland began his acting career on the London stage, playing the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical on the West End from 2008 to 2010. With that background, Holland also said that he intended to do all of the dancing himself. “I have a desire to use no doubles, to do all of the dancing, to shoot those dances in one shot – how he would have done it.”

Astaire starred in more than 30 film musicals, in addition to his stage career on Broadway and the West End over the course of a seven-decade career. Astaire is usually remembered for his pairings with Ginger Rogers, who starred in several films with him, including the classics “Swing Time,” “The Gay Divorcee” and “Top Hat.”

Taylor Swift sheds light on an unhealthy relationship: Star sings about escaping toxic love

Taylor Swift is looking back at a damaging relationship from the other side of it. The 36-year-old superstar released her new single, “Patient Zero,” on Friday, September 25, offering a sharp account of recognizing unhealthy relationship patterns, walking away, and eventually being able to help someone else going through a similar experience.

The track appears on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition of Swift’s 2025 album featuring four new songs. “Patient Zero” serves as the project’s lead single.

Taylor Swift’s new single “Patient Zero” explores escaping a toxic relationship, healing afterward, and helping another woman recognize the same warning signs.

Swift frames the relationship as an illness. She casts herself as the first person who survived the emotional fallout and can now recognize the symptoms when another woman encounters the same man.

What Taylor Swift’s ‘Patient Zero’ Is About

Swift explained that the concept came from a conversation with friends about an experience that turned out to be surprisingly familiar.

“The story behind me writing the song ‘Patient Zero’ is that I was hanging out with a bunch of friends,” Swift said, explaining that one friend revealed she had been contacted by the new girlfriend of an ex who wanted to know whether she had experienced the same troubling behavior.

The conversation quickly became bigger than one relationship. According to Swift, the other women began responding, “‘Oh, I’ve been through that too,’” and sharing similar stories about being contacted by a former partner’s new girlfriend.

That gave Swift the idea to write from the perspective of the ex who has already made it out.

    ‘I Was Patient Zero’

Swift makes that concept unmistakable in the chorus, describing an apparently charming man with a much darker side. She sings about the “devil on his shoulder under his halo” before delivering the song’s central declaration: “I was patient zero.”

One of the song’s most pointed moments arrives when Swift describes herself as “someone who had him and walked away.”

By the outro, she describes having “done the healing,” reinforcing the idea that “Patient Zero” is as much about recovery as it is about the relationship itself.

Is Taylor Swift’s ‘Patient Zero’ About Joe Alwyn?

Swift does not identify the man in “Patient Zero,” and there is currently no confirmation that the song is about any specific former boyfriend.

Still, listeners have begun drawing connections between the new track and Swift’s previous relationship with Joe Alwyn, whom she dated for approximately six years before their 2023 breakup. Some of that speculation centers on the song’s medical metaphors, which recall imagery Swift previously used in “You’re Losing Me,” a breakup track widely associated with the end of that relationship.

Other listeners have suggested “Patient Zero” may intentionally combine details or themes associated with multiple relationships rather than documenting one particular romance.

The song is also getting a major visual treatment. Swift directed the official “Patient Zero” music video, which stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The video is scheduled to make its world premiere during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27.

Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, whose credits include The Revenant, Birdman and Gravity, served as cinematographer on the project.
