  • Luka Dončić ruled out for second half of Lakers-Clippers with leg contusion

Luka Dončić did not return for the second half of Saturday’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers.

The Lakers ruled out Dončić with a left-leg contusion just before the start of the second half. The severity of the injury and a timeline for Dončić’s return weren’t initially clear. The Clippers won Saturday’s game, 103-88.

“I saw him hobbling towards the end of the first half. He came to me at halftime and said he couldn’t go,” said Lakers coach JJ Redick, who added he didn’t have any additional information about the injury.

A game after tallying 45 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in a win over the Utah Jazz, Dončić struggled with his efficiency in the first half against the Clippers. He posted 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 turnovers while shooting 4 of 13 from the field and 1 of 6 from 3 in 19 minutes.

The Lakers trailed, 54-39 to start the second half. They started the game playing without Austin Reaves (calf), Rui Hachimura (groin), Deandre Ayton (elbow) and Gabe Vincent (back).

The Lakers fell to 19-8 with Saturday’s loss, which is good for fourth place in the West behind the Thunder (25-3), Spurs (19-7) and Nuggets (19-7).

An absence by Dončić of any length would put the Lakers at further risk of falling in the Western Conference standings. A five-time first-team All-NBA selection, Dončić entered Saturday leading the league with 35.2 points per game alongside averages of 9.1 assists, 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

    Starts

    Jacoby Brissett, QB, Cardinals

    vs. Falcons

Brissett has finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback in all nine of his starts for the Cardinals this season, including last week’s matchup with the vaunted Texans defense.

Next up is an easier date with the Falcons, in a game with one of the highest projected point totals on the week at 48.

The Cardinals are also expected to get Marvin Harrison Jr. back in some capacity, giving Brissett even more firepower to work with.

At this point, there’s no reason to avoid starting Brissett, unless you’re lucky enough to have an elite option at the position.

    Other QBs to start:

    • Jared Goff vs. Steelers – Coming off a 338-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Rams, Goff now heads home to face the Steelers defense that’s allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to QBs. This game is expected to be the highest scoring on the slate at 52 projected points.

    • Justin Herbert at Cowboys – The Cowboys are allowing the most fantasy points to quarterbacks, including at least three touchdowns to five of the last seven QBs they’ve faced. Herbert’s offensive line just has to keep him clean long enough to take advantage of this matchup.

    Bucky Irving, RB, Buccaneers

    at Panthers

Since returning from injury, Irving has topped 70 scrimmage yards in three straight games and finished as a top-15 fantasy RB twice.

While the Panthers held a banged-up Saints backfield mostly in check last week, they were crushed by running backs prior to that contest. Kyren Williams (72 yards, TD), Blake Corum (81 yards, TD), Christian McCaffrey (142 yards, TD) and Bijan Robinson (143 yards, 2 TDs) all had big days against them over the previous three outings.

Some of Irving’s best performances last season came against Carolina, including 185 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Week 13 and 190 yards in Week 17.

Even with Sean Tucker vulturing carries around the goal line and Rachaad White working in as a pass-catcher, Irving still projects as a low-end fantasy RB1 this week.

    Other RBs to start:

    • TreVeyon Henderson at Ravens – Henderson’s breakout continues with at least 80 yards in six consecutive contests and multiple touchdowns in three of his last five games.

    • Kenneth Gainwell at Lions – Gainwell has forced his way into a near 50-50 split with Jaylen Warren and has taken on a major role in the passing game with 13 catches over the last two weeks. While we can’t guarantee another 126-yard performance, you can expect him to be used heavily in a high-scoring affair with the Lions.

    • Michael Carter vs. Falcons – Injuries have pushed Carter into the lead back role in Arizona. In the two games where he’s been given at least 15 touches this season, he delivered 73 yards and a score in Week 5 and 94 yards in a tough matchup last week. With the point total at 48, Carter is a very intriguing fantasy start.

    DK Metcalf, WR, Steelers

    at Lions

After an up-and-down season, Metcalf has put together back-to-back strong fantasy performances with seven catches for 148 yards in Week 14 and 55 yards and a touchdown in Week 15.

The matchup with the Lions should vault him to another strong stat line, given their defense is the second-easiest matchup for fantasy wideouts and this projects to be a high-scoring game in the dome.

Metcalf has also had a lot of success playing in Detroit. Though he wasn’t a member of the Steelers at the time, over the last three seasons, Metcalf put up 104 yards, 75 yards and 149 yards while playing at Ford Field.

In a game where Aaron Rodgers will likely have to open things up to keep pace with the Lions, Metcalf is someone you want in your fantasy lineup against a banged-up Detroit secondary.

    Other WRs to start:

    • Jameson Williams vs. Steelers – Williams will be on the other side of the field in that game and is just as attractive as a borderline fantasy WR1. The speedster has at least 96 yards or a touchdown in six of his past seven appearances.

    • Jauan Jennings at Colts – Jennings has scored six touchdowns in his last six outings and is coming off a WR11 finish. Now he gets a Colts defense that’s allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to WRs, including a top-12 weekly finisher at the position in four of the previous five games.

    • Chris Olave vs. Jets – Olave has 70 yards or a TD in four of his last five games and there’s even less target competition for him to deal with now that Devaughn Vele is sidelined.

    Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles

    at Commanders

Goedert has been heating up with stat lines of 8-78-0 and 6-70-2 over the last two weeks, resulting in top-eight weekly finishes at his position.

He’s a streaking player that can disappear from the box score at any moment, but that’s unlikely to happen versus a Commanders defense that’s permitting the fourth-most fantasy points to TEs.

You can confidently start Goedert as a mid-range fantasy TE1 in your semifinal matchup.

    Other TEs to start:

    • Colston Loveland vs. Packers – The rookie has passed the eye test and has become a consistent contributor in the Bears offense. Now, he’ll be asked to take on an even bigger role in the passing game with both Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III ruled out for Saturday’s game.

    • Travis Kelce at Titans – With Rashee Rice out due to a concussion, Kelce becomes one of the last men standing in the Chiefs offense. Even with Patrick Mahomes out, Kelce is positioned for a solid game against a Titans defense that’s given up 114 yards and a TD to Harold Fannin Jr. and 88 yards and a score to George Kittle over the last two weeks.

    Sits

    Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jaguars

    at Broncos

Lawrence had a massive six-touchdown effort last week and is now the No. 1 scoring fantasy quarterback over the last month — ahead of Josh Allen.

However, he’s done it against easier opponents like the Cardinals, Titans, Colts and Jets.

The Broncos defense is a different story. Denver is giving up the sixth-fewest fantasy points to passers and has only allowed one QB to reach 15 fantasy points against it in the last seven outings.

While it might feel odd to sit Lawrence coming off of Week 15’s dominant performance, the Broncos defense has a humbling effect on most quarterbacks.

Given the matchup, I’m keeping Lawrence outside my top-12 QBs this week.

    Other QBs to sit:

    • Caleb Williams vs. Packers – Williams had a very average fantasy day (QB16) just two weeks ago against Green Bay. While the Packers have lost Micah Parsons since then, the Bears will be without two of their top pass-catchers in Odunze and Burden.

    • Marcus Mariota vs. Eagles – Mariota is normally a solid streaming option, but not in this matchup against an Eagles defense giving up the seventh-fewest fantasy points to QBs.

    Kareem Hunt, RB, Chiefs

    at Titans

The fantasy environment in Kansas City isn’t nearly as exciting with Patrick Mahomes done for the rest of the season and Rashee Rice out with a concussion.

Gardner Minshew is a capable backup and the matchup with the Titans would normally be a favorable one, but the oddsmakers aren’t expecting a lot of scoring in this game with the point total set at just 37.5.

We’ve also seen Isiah Pacheco quietly turning this backfield into more of a 50-50 split with his snap percentage rising each week since he returned, up to 46% in Week 15.

Both Hunt and Pacheco have been fairly ineffective the last couple weeks and are low-ceiling, TD-or-bust flex types in a Mahomes-less version of this offense.

    Other RBs to sit:

    • Kyle Monangai vs. Packers – The rookie has had a couple of quieter weeks after his string of four straight outings with a touchdown. One of those down games was against Green Bay’s defense that allows the eighth-fewest fantasy points to the position.

    • Chris Rodriguez Jr./Jacory Croskey-Merritt vs. Eagles – It’s not ideal when you don’t have a role in the passing attack and your team is heavy underdogs. It’s even worse when you’re in the situation and potentially splitting carries.

    • Rhamondre Stevenson at Ravens – Stevenson has been lucky to break some big plays against easy opponents the last couple games, but in his current role, he’s not seeing enough volume to be a trusted fantasy option.

    Jaylen Waddle, WR, Dolphins

    vs. Bengals

Waddle hasn’t topped 55 yards in four straight outings. Now, he has the uncertainty that comes with a quarterback change.

While the Dolphins may have felt compelled to try a different approach that didn’t involve Tua Tagovailoa, Quinn Ewers could actually be a downgrade for this passing attack.

Focusing on Waddle’s fantasy outlook, the Bengals are allowing the fifth-fewest points to opposing wideouts and have been a particularly tough matchup for No. 1 receivers, thanks to cornerback DJ Turner.

Waddle is a borderline WR2/3 for fantasy this week, whom I’d prefer to not be relying on at the most important time of the season.

    Other WRs to sit:

    • Brian Thomas Jr. at Broncos – Thomas has posted double-digit fantasy points in back-to-back games, but now gets Patrick Surtain II and the Broncos defense that is the sixth-most difficult matchup for wideouts.

    • Deebo Samuel Sr. vs. Eagles – Samuel was held under 45 yards each of the last two weeks and has a looming date with the Eagles defense that’s giving up the seventh-fewest fantasy points to receivers.

    • Khalil Shakir at Browns – Shakir has a fairly low fantasy ceiling to begin with and this doesn’t seem like a potential spike week versus the Browns’ top-10 defense.

    Hunter Henry, TE, Patriots

    at Ravens

Henry is coming off one of his worst outputs of the season with just one catch for 18 yards against a Bills defense known for shutting down tight ends.

Things won’t get much easier against Kyle Hamilton (who is expected to play) and the Ravens defense, which is allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to the position.

Baltimore hasn’t let a tight end reach 30 yards in the last six games and only one tight end has topped 50 yards against them this season.

Henry is a TD-or-bust streamer to avoid this week.

    Other TEs to sit:

    • Mark Andrews at Patriots – Speaking of TD-or-bust streamers, Andrews has been limited to 18 yards or less in three of his last four outings and hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 10.

    • Brenton Strange at Broncos – With Jakobi Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr. and Parker Washington all healthy in the receiving corps, Strange has managed just 26 and 27 yards in the last two games. The Broncos won’t make it easy to bounce back this week.

  • Timberwolves’ Chris Finch fined $35K for berating official following ejection

Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch has been fined $35,000, the NBA announced, for “directing inappropriate language toward game officials and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection.”

Four Minnesota Timberwolves staffers needed to hold Finch back as the sixth-year head coach went in for more.

Finch was still giving an official an earful after being ejected less than six minutes into Friday night’s 112-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He erupted after a no-call against Julius Randle, who was stripped following an offensive rebound at the 6:23 mark of the first quarter.

Minnesota didn’t get a whistle on a layup attempt from fellow Wolves star Anthony Edwards earlier in the possession.

After the ball was stolen from Randle, Finch threw up his hands in frustration. Then he drifted onto the court. As the Thunder brought the ball up the floor, play was whistled dead because Finch continued on to get up close and let the official know about his discontent.

As the broadcast showed Edwards arguing with another official, Finch could be seen in the background still irate about the situation.

After he was tossed, Finch reversed course from a route toward the bench back toward the official. He ran his mouth and pointed his finger while four Wolves staffers held him back.

Eventually, Finch made his way to the locker room to the tune of cheers from the Minnesota crowd that was equally upset with the officiating.

The reigning NBA champion Thunder, who fell to 25-3 on the season, defeated the Timberwolves in last season’s Western Conference finals.

Oklahoma City has drawn criticism for receiving favorable whistles during its recent run of enormous success. There’s no denying the Thunder’s dominance, however.

OKC entered Friday night with an average margin of victory of 16.9 points, by far the best in the NBA this season and a mark that would be the best of all time if the Thunder maintain it.

  • Japanese star Munetaka Murakami agrees to 2-year, $34M deal with White Sox

Munetaka Murakami, the latest big-time Japanese free agent, is headed to Chicago at a price lower than anyone expected.

The former Yakult Swallows third baseman reportedly agreed to a two-year, $34 million deal with the White Sox, according to MLB.com’s Yuki Yamada and Yahoo Sports’ Russell Dorsey. The White Sox confirmed the deal, posting on X:

Instead of signing with a contender, Murakami will join a rebuilding team.

At only 25 years old, Murakami possesses a level of both youth and raw power rarely seen on the free-agent market, but concerns about his ability to make contact and his defensive fit likely prevented him from landing the nine-figure deal many expected for him.

Yahoo Sports ranked Murakami as the sixth-best free agent at the outset of this offseason.

The Swallows posted Murakami on Nov. 8, beginning a 45-day window in which he was free to negotiate with all 30 MLB teams. The Swallows will receive a $6.575 million posting fee in return.

Munetaka Murakami’s MLB arrival has been long-awaited

Murakami has been a name to know for years, beginning when he won Central League MVP in 2021 at 21 years old. That turned out to be only a warm-up act, as he proceeded to post one of the greatest seasons in NPB history in 2022.

In his age-22 season, Murakami broke the legendary Sadaharu Oh’s 58-year-old NPB record for most homers by a Japanese player with 56 long balls while slashing .318/.458/.710. He also became the youngest Triple Crown winner in NPB history.

After that season, Murakami signed a new contract with the Swallows that reportedly contained a clause requiring the team to post him following the 2025 season, the first offseason in which he would be eligible to sign a giant contract a la Yoshinobu Yamamoto (that’s what Roki Sasaki gave up when he came to MLB at age 23).

Murakami has known he wants to go to MLB for a long time, and the feeling was clearly mutual by 2022. The World Baseball Classic was well-timed for building Murakami’s hype, too, as American fans got to know him as the big Japanese bat to complement Japan’s elite rotation.

Since then, Murakami has remained productive but hasn’t come close to replicating his 2022 season. He dealt with a couple of down years before surging back in 2025 in a season limited by injury, hitting .286/.392/.659 with 24 homers in 220 at-bats.

Munetaka Murakami might be MLB’s riskiest free agent

Every major MLB contract comes with some level of risk. That’s how professional sports work; some deals work out, and some don’t. But it’s very rare to see a delta of possible outcomes as wide as Murakami’s at this price.

There is a conceivable world in which Murakami takes the field and immediately establishes himself as a third baseman with elite power and enough plate discipline to get on base regularly, at only 25 years old with plenty of prime ahead of him. That youth in particular is significant, as top free agents rarely hit free agency at that age.

However, there is also a very possible world in which Murakami cannot handle third base, cannot catch up to MLB velocity and cannot hit MLB breaking balls. In that scenario, he is not an MLB player.

Those are all real concerns about Murakami, especially in the time since his godly 2022 season. Here’s what FanGraphs has to say about his ability to put the bat on the ball:

His contact rate tanks against fastballs 93 mph and above (just 63% since 2022) and, more recently, Murakami’s contact rates versus secondary pitches have also plummeted. In 2025, Murakami had just a 51% contact rate against all secondary pitch types combined, much lower than any consistent, impact big league hitter. Contrast that with 2022-2023 Murakami, when his contact rate was 62% — not great, but better than 2025 by a meaningful margin.

They later added that Murakami “isn’t a very rangy or handsy defender, and his arm strength barely passes at third.” So a move to first appears to be in the cards, which would put even more pressure on his bat.

This isn’t a list you would call encouraging, either.

In short, Murakami has made contact against Japanese pitching at a rate that would be bad even if his numbers perfectly translated to MLB. He has struck out in 28.6% of his plate appearances in the past three NPB seasons, which would rank as the ninth-worst mark among qualified MLB batters this year. If he adds any more whiffs — which seems probable when the majority of MLB pitchers sit at 93 mph or above — we are approaching late-stage Adam Dunn territory.

That’s why MLB teams didn’t want to make a long-term investment in Murakami. Still, there are certainly MLB hitters who carve out careers while striking out a ton, and that’s the path Murakami will be trying to follow. All but one of 2025’s top-five home run hitters posted a strikeout rate above 25%.

Murakami simply has to crush the ball nearly every time he touches it. If he can, he’ll hit free agency again at 27 years old and demand a much higher price.

  • NFL injury tracker: Latest injury news, fantasy implications for Week 16 as Rashee Rice ruled out, Tee Higgins will play

Gardner Minshew takes over for Patrick Mahomes this week for the Kansas City Chiefs and will be without one of the team’s top offensive weapons.

Receiver Rashee Rice has bee n ruled out after suffering a concussion last week against the Los Angeels Chargers. Rice entered concussion protocol on Monday after reporting symptoms and did not practice. Kansas City visits the Tennessee Titans in Week 16.

Fellow receiver Tyquan Thornton was also ruled out with a concussion.

Rice’s injury occurred in the third quarter of the Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Chargers. Rice suffered a brutal blow from Los Angeles Chargers safety Tony Jefferson, the latest in a series of hard hits the standout wideout has sustained in recent weeks.

Rice stayed down after the play and ultimately went to the Chiefs’ medical tent, where he then emerged with his helmet.

Although Rice went back in the game and finished with seven receptions for 51 yards in the three-point defeat, the symptoms he reported Monday landed him in the concussion protocol.

Rice leads all Chiefs wide receivers with 53 receptions and 571 receiving yards. Plus, his five touchdowns are tied for the team high.

    [NFL injury updates live]

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins has been cleared from concussion protocol and will play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Higgins was a full participant in Friday’s practice and cleared following an evaluation. He had not taken part in practice for two weeks before returning to the field.

Higgins missed Week 13 due to a concussion, cleared protocol but then re-entered protocol after their game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 14.

    Other notable Week 16 injuries:

    • Garrett Wilson’s season is over, New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn announced. The receiver has been out since Nov. 13 with a knee sprain, and with the Jets out of playoff contention with a 3-11 record, there’s no reason to risk him over the final weeks. Wilson finishes the season with 396 receiving yards, 36 receptions and four touchdowns.

    • Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is inactive for Sunday’s meeting with the Chargers as he deals with a concussion. Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman is also inactive due to a coach’s decision and not an injury matter.

    • Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt has been ruled out for Week 16 as he recovers from surgery to repair a partially collapsed lung suffered during a dry needling treatment at the team facility last week.

The LA Rams have parted ways with special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn after the Thursday night debacle against the Seattle Seahawks. Los Angeles blew a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, which was sparked by Seahawks wideout Rashid Shaheed’s punt return for a touchdown. Kicker Harrison Mevis also missed a big field goal in the loss.

This loss cost the Rams the No. 1 seed in the NFC and likely the opportunity to win the NFC West. The Rams dropped from the No. 1 seed in the conference to the No. 5 seed and could potentially fall even further.

It’s been a rough first season as head coach in New York for Aaron Glenn, but according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets are expected to bring Glenn back for year two. The Jets are 3-11, and depending on how they finish the season, they could be in line for a top-five pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel’s job could be safe for at least one more year, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. McDaniel’s is expected to return to the team in 2026 and has the support of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

The same cannot be said for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was benched in favor of rookie seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers. He’ll get his first NFL start in Week 16 against the Benga

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman is a health inactive for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Coleman has been in the dog house with the Bills coaching staff this season, and this will be the third time this year he’s been inactive. Coleman has not taken that next step like the team expected in his second year.

Wideout Gabe Davis is also inactive for Week 16.

The Eagles clinched back-to-back NFC East titles, but now eye the overall No. 1 seed if they can catch the Seahawks. If not, they will be one of the NFC’s top seeds and have home field for their first playoff game.

Getting Johnson and Carter back on their respective line will go a long way in helping them go for their goal of a second straight Super Bowl title.

The Cowboys host the Chargers in Week 16.

    • The Chicago Bears are expecting to get linebacker Tremaine Edmunds back from injured reserve Saturday against the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Pittsburgh Steelers star edge rusher T.J. Watt is still recovering from a lung injury that required surgery last week.

Watt, who will miss his second consecutive game when Pittsburgh plays the Detroit Lions Sunday, suffered a partially collapsed lung after undergoing a dry needling treatment session at the team’s practice facility, according to his brother J.J. Watt.

Additionally, the Steelers will be without cornerback James Pierre (calf) and guard Isaac Seumalo (triceps) versus the Lions. They’ve listed linebacker Nick Herbig (hamstring) as doubtful for the matchup.

The 26-year-old Bland played 12 games this season with Dallas, recording 73 total tackles and one interception.

He will miss the rest of the season.

“He understands the journey that he has to go upon again, but he’s gonna do a great job and come back better than before,” said Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. It’s one of those situations where it comes and goes, and at the end of the day, when you go and look at it, you see there’s something we need to go in and fix surgically. That starts the process of a long rehab, but he’ll do a great job with i

Geno Smith looks like he will return for the Las Vegas Raiders for Sunday’s game against the Texans.

The Raiders quarterback was back at practice on Wednesday after sitting out last week’s 31-0 loss to the Eagles with a right shoulder and back injury.

How to watch NFL games in 2025:

Many NFL games are broadcast on local channels, so if you’re looking to catch an in-market game, it may be as simple as turning on your TV (or setting up a digital TV antenna) or finding a live TV streaming service that carries the correct RSN (Regional Sports Network). If you want to watch out-of-market games, a $7 monthly subscription to NFL+ will let you watch every out-of-market-game local and primetime game in the season on your phone — but only a select few regular season games on your TV. You could also spring for the uber-expensive NFL Sunday Ticket package to get every out-of-market Sunday game of the season.

When it comes to nationally broadcast games, NFL games typically air across ESPN, NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC and NFL Network. Thursday Night Football games stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, select football games will stream exclusively on Peacock, games on CBS will stream live on Paramount+, and Monday Night Football games will air on ESPN or ABC and stream on the newly revamped ESPN+ this season. That’s six channels and four streaming platforms to keep up with this season — and that’s not counting your local RSN’s for in-market games and an NFL+ or NFL Sunday Ticket subscription for out-of-market games. Plus, Netflix is once again hosting at least two Christmas Day matches, so add that subscription into the mix. And we can’t forget about Fox One, Fox’s first streaming service, a place where you can also stream games airing on FOX (if you don’t already have access to it).

Confused? You’re not alone. Here’s a breakdown of the platforms we recommend checking out ahead of the 2025 NFL season, so that come game time, tuning into your favorite team’s games will be as easy as simply turning on the TV.
