Neve Campbell Could Not ‘Live With Myself’ if She Accepted Unfair ‘Scream 6’ Paycheck: ‘My Value to This Franchise Was Bigger’

Neve Campbell recently told CBS Mornings that she “didn’t think I could live with myself” if she accepted the offer return for “Scream 6.”

“When I made that decision, I just didn’t think I could live with myself walking on set,” Campbell said. “I just didn’t feel right. I just knew that my value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered. For me, I needed to make that choice.”

She added, “When I said goodbye to it, I thought that was it. I knew that there was a good chance that would be it.”

Campbell explained that although it was tough knowing that the “Scream 6” production team was “having their first day of shooting and I wasn’t there,” she ultimately knew she made the “right” decision to bow out of the film.

She added, “And when I spoke out about it, it wasn’t really to sort of rally everybody. It was really just my truth at the time, and the fact the people got behind me, I got lovely support, and that was nice. And I do feel that other people need to make those choices.”

Campbell, the longtime face of the “Scream” franchise, told Variety in 2022 that she would not be returning for the sixth installment because she felt “the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

“Sadly, I won’t be making the next ‘Scream’ film,” Campbell said in a statement to Variety. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream.’ I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my ‘Scream’ fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

Campbell will return for “Scream 7” after her salary dispute, joining fellow original cast members David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Courteney Cox. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first “Scream,” serves as director.

  • Kyler Murray, Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort reportedly haven’t talked since season ended; Arizona considering ‘all options’ at QB

Kyler Murray and Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort haven’t talked since the 2025 season ended, according to an ESPN report Tuesday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier this month that the Cardinals have been seeking a trade partner to take on Murray, 28, and his lucrative contract.

Ossenfort said Tuesday at the NFL combine that “all options are on the table” for the Cardinals, noting that Murray and fellow quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett, who started Arizona’s final 12 games of a 3-14 season after Murray suffered a foot injury in Week 5, and Kedon Slovis are all under contract for 2026.

“As it pertains to that position, as it pertains to every position on our team, we’re going to look at every avenue to improve, and we’re going to continue and go through our process with that,” said Ossenfort, who is in his fourth season as GM.

When Ossenfort was asked if he’s sat down with Murray to talk about last year and what the 2019 No. 1 overall pick wants in the future, Ossenfort spoke generally about his relationship with the dual-threat quarterback and his short-lived 2025 campaign.

“I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort said, “and I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole.

“And so when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position [but] in all positions.”

The specifics of Murray’s foot injury, especially its severity, remain unclear, as does whether Murray was ever on track to return this past season.

Brissett held his own in Murray’s absence, completing 64.9% of his passes while throwing for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. But the injury-riddled Cardinals won only one of his starts, as their roster thinned and the defense cratered down the stretch of then-head coach Jonathan Gannon’s third and final season.

Arizona began the season 2-0 but then plummeted to 2-5, losing those five games by a combined 13 points. After a bounce-back win on “Monday Night Football” over the Dallas Cowboys, the season got away from Gannon and Co.

Former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is now at the helm. Together, he and Ossenfort are the latest tandem to try to right a franchise that’s made just one playoff appearance since the start of the 2016 season.

Murray’s Cardinals career began with him winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 and making Pro Bowls in 2020 and 2021.

But a season-ending ACL tear in 2022 disrupted that momentum. Although he received an extension that now makes trading Murray more difficult for the Cardinals, he didn’t achieve the same success in OC Drew Petzing’s run-heavy offense that he enjoyed in Kliff Kingsbury’s spread passing attack.

Simply cutting Murray outright would result in a dead cap hit of at least $54 million, according to ESPN. On the contrary, if Arizona trades him when the new league year begins, it could reportedly save approximately $35 million in cap space.

The problem is, the contract still has three years and about $125 million left on it, including $60 million guaranteed, per ESPN.

It certainly seems like the Cardinals and Murray are headed for a split, but Ossenfort will have to get creative in trying to pull off a trade that both makes financial sense and yields some kind of worthy compensation.

  • Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal plans to make 1 start for USA in World Baseball Classic; Paul Skenes available for multiple starts, knockout round

Tarik Skubal’s stint with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic will be short-lived.

The Detroit Tigers ace and reigning two-time Cy Young winner told reporters Monday that he’ll make one WBC start and then be done with the tournament. It sounds like the start will come in pool play, rather than in the knockout rounds.

Skubal shared the plan from spring training in Florida and explained that he’ll prioritize getting ready for Detroit’s season after his start.

“I’m trying to do both things, trying to pitch for Team USA, but I understand the need to be here with these guys and get ready for the season,” Skubal said, per The Athletic’s Cody Stavenhagen. “I think it’s kind of the best of both worlds in that aspect, and I’m grateful they took me in that capacity.”

Skubal also said he’d ask the Tigers to rejoin Team USA as a spectator if it makes the finals, indicating that his start will come sometime early in pool play.

“If they go to the finals, I think I’m going to try and lobby to just go watch and be with the guys,” he added.

The WBC finals will be played in Miami, not far from Detroit’s spring training home in Lakeland, Florida.

Skenes plans to be available for multiple starts

Team USA’s other Cy Young ace, Paul Skenes, meanwhile, intends to make two starts and be available for the knockout round if the U.S advances. Skenes, who at 23 years old is six years younger than Skubal, confirmed his WBC plans on Tuesday in an interview with Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

“We win, we go as far as we should, I’ll pitch again in the tournament,” Skenes told Rosenthal.

Skenes is approaching his third MLB season playing with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Tigers and Tarik Skubal are limiting his exposure to wear and tear and injury risk in the World Baseball Classic.

    (ASSOCIATED PRESS)

Skubal’s absence after his planned start will leave the U.S. without one of its top two starters after pool play. USA has a deep roster of nine starting pitchers to choose from that features two-time All-Star Logan Webb and 2025 All-Star Joe Ryan in addition to Skenes.

The upgrade of its pitching staff from the previous WBC is expected to give USA a leg up in the tournament after it lost to Japan on the final at-bat of the championship game in 2023. Skubal’s limited availability is something of a blow to those plans and will leave Team USA without one of its top options on the mound in elimination games if it advances beyond pool play.

[Get more Tigers news: Detroit team feed]

The decision appears to be a compromise from the Tigers, allowing Skubal to pitch for Team USA while limiting his exposure and injury risk. The Tigers are coming off a season in which they bounced back from a regular-season collapse that allowed the Cleveland Guardians to win the AL Central to clinch a wild-card berth and beat the Guardians in the wild-card round. They lost to the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS.

Detroit is projected to contend for the AL Central title in 2026, and Skubal’s health and performance will be a big part of those plans.

After exhibitions against the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies, Team USA will begin pool play in the WBC against Brazil on March 6. The WBC finals are scheduled for March 17.

MLB’s full Opening Day slate, including Detroit’s season opener against the San Diego Padres, is scheduled for March 26.

  • New Lakers business president says team will retain Rob Pelinka, with Magic Johnson and top Dodgers execs involved

The future of the Los Angeles Lakers front office apparently won’t be too different from the past, except for some additions from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Lon Rosen — the Lakers’ recently hired president of business operations — said the team’s plan is for general manager Rob Pelinka to continue running basketball operations, according Dan Woike of The Athletic.

Pelinka signed an extension with the Lakers last April and also received the title of president of basketball operations.

Additionally, minority Dodgers owner and former Lakers star Magic Johnson will again be involved in the franchise’s operations, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. Johnson, who previously worked as the Lakers’ president of basketball operations alongside Pelinka, will reportedly not have a title this time around, though.

Rosen, who was hired after a lengthy stint as the Dodgers’ chief marketing officer, also confirmed that Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and special adviser Farhan Zaidi will provide input for Pelinka. The moves are being made following the purchase of the Lakers by Dodgers principal owner Mark Walter.

Pelinka said earlier this month the Lakers front office will be expanded, with the Dodgers as something of a vision board via the California Post:

“When Mark bought the team, Jeanie and I did a deep dive with him on sort of the areas he wants to grow, move into and get aggressive,” Pelinka said to a handful of beat reporters ahead of Saturday’s home game against the Golden State Warriors. “And again, looking at the Dodgers and how they built it out has been a great sort of example and North Star. And so we’re still going through that process of how we’ll look in the offseason and what additions we’ll make. But there will be some positive changes and we will build things out, again, led by myself and Jeanie, and with Mark’s support.”

It’s not a surprise Walter is introducing some of his Dodgers brain trust to the Lakers after taking over. Under Friedman, the Dodgers have either won 100 games or reached the World Series in every season since 2017, with three titles to show for it. The Lakers have won a title under Pelinka too, in 2020, but they’ve only advanced past the first round once since then.

Obviously, what works best in baseball won’t be 100% applicable to basketball, but there are probably some parts of organizational management that could translate.

All of this is coming in the run-up to what could be an eventful summer for the Lakers, with LeBron James hitting free agency and Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially being available for a trade.

  • Bulls G Anfernee Simons out indefinitely with wrist fracture after leaving loss to Pistons early

The Chicago Bulls will be without new guard Anfernee Simons indefinitely.

Imaging on Simons’ left wrist revealed he had aggravated a previous fracture in the team’s loss to the Detroit Pistons on Saturday. It’s unclear how long Simons will now be sidelined.

Simons left the Bulls’ 126-110 loss to the pistons on Saturday with what the team initially called a sprain, and he didn’t play in the second half. But imaging revealed the fracture, which Donovan said actually stemmed from an old injury he suffered when he was still with the Boston Celtics.

“The fracture hasn’t quite healed and I think him seeing a hand specialist, they felt like, you know, once the pain subsides that he’s fine to go back to play,” Donovan said, via The Associated Press. “The last time it happened to him, it was in training camp in Boston. It was like a week or 10 days.”

Simons was dealt to the Bulls in a deal ahead of the deadline earlier this month in exchange for center Nikola Vučević. He’s appeared in six games with the Bulls, and averaged 15.2 points and three assists per contest since landing in Chicago.

Simons is in his eighth season in the league. The Portland Trail Blazers first selected him with the No. 24 overall pick in 2018, and he spent his first seven seasons there before they sent him to Boston in a deal for Jrue Holiday last June.

The Bulls entered Tuesday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets with just a 24-34 record. They are on a nine-game win streak and have lost 12 of their last 13 games. They currently sit in 12th in the Eastern Conference standings with 23 games left in the regular season, and are on pace to miss the playoffs for a fourth straight year.

  • One of Eric Dane’s Final Roles Was Boosting Visibility for ALS: “Used His Platform Not for Attention, But for Action”

Eric Dane still has some posthumous performances to be released, but the role he took on in his final year will be remembered as the most impactful.

After the Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria actor publicly announced his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in April 2025, he didn’t retreat from the public eye as he battled the devastating disease. Instead, he used the platform he built thanks to his career in Hollywood to boost visibility for ALS.

Dane didn’t hesitate to take on an advocacy role, partnering with organizations like Target ALS and I AM ALS to bring more awareness and research surrounding the rare degenerative disease.

For the former nonprofit, he joined its Board of Directors and became the face of Target ALS’s “Ending ALS Starts with You” campaign, helping raise more than $500,000 in 2025 to accelerate research for treatments. As for I AM ALS, he served as an ambassador for the nonprofit and helped launch its “Push for Progress” campaign in September, which aims to secure $1 billion in federal funding for ALS over the next three years.

Dane was recognized as Advocate of the Year at the ALS Network’s Champions for Cures and Care Gala last month.

In October 2025, Dane also traveled to Washington, D.C., with the I AM ALS leadership to lobby Congress to increase federal funding for ALS research and push for the reauthorization of the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act, which expires in 2026. He met with lawmakers, including U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, to discuss the urgency of funding.

In addition to his work with nonprofits, Dane combined his advocacy with his acting talents, appearing in a season two episode of the NBC medical drama, Brilliant Minds. In the episode, which aired in November, he played Matthew, a firefighter who struggles to tell his family about his ALS diagnosis and later grapples to accept help from them as the prognosis progresses.

“We really wanted to honor him and his experience and be really truthful about it. [We] didn’t want to sensationalize in any way,” Brilliant Minds creator Michael Grassi previously told The Hollywood Reporter of the importance of the episode.

Grassi also co-wrote the episode with Daniela Lamas, a doctor, and also leaned on two ALS doctors and two members of the writing staff who had family members living with ALS when developing the storyline. “We really wanted to get all the language right, especially when talking about something like ALS, where yes, there is currently no cure, but people are currently working very hard to find a cure,” the showrunner added.

Dane died on Feb. 19, following a years-long battle with the rare degenerative disease. The actor had shared that he first experienced symptoms a year and a half before publicly revealing his diagnosis.

Following his death, I AM ALS shared in a statement, “Eric used his platform not for attention, but for action. From the moment he joined I AM ALS, he showed up with courage and conviction, asking how he could use his superpowers to help the movement grow. It was an honor to brainstorm with him, to walk alongside him in the halls of Congress on behalf of our community, amplify the urgent need for ACT for ALS and research funding, and drive toward treatments and, ultimately, a cure. He understood that ALS is not just a diagnosis; it is a call to action for families, for answers, and for change.”

“Eric brought humility, humor, and visibility to ALS and reminded the world that progress is possible when we refuse to remain silent. Eric was more than a supporter of our mission—he was part of our family. His impact will live on in the research being funded, the policies being advanced, and the community he helped grow by his honesty, his bravery, and his belief in a better future for anyone struggling with this diagnosis,” the organization continued. “We honor Eric by continuing the work he believed in so deeply: mobilizing communities, driving critical research, securing essential funding, and fighting relentlessly for real solutions. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and our entire community. I AM ALS will carry his legacy forward — until ALS is no more.”

Target ALS also wrote in a statement, “Though we had only known Eric, or ‘E,’ as so many called him, for the past year, his impact on our community was immediate and profound. From the moment we met him, we experienced his generosity of heart. He didn’t hesitate to ask how he could help, how he could fight, and how he could be part of the solution. Whenever we asked for his support, his response was always the same: ‘I’ll do whatever I can to help.’”

“We also recognize that families across the globe experience this heartbreak every day. To lose someone to ALS is devastating and unacceptable,” the org added. “Partnering with Eric was a way to fight back, to accelerate research and advance effective treatments for this disease. At Target ALS, we will carry this work forward in Eric’s honor, and in honor of the many who came before him. We remain steadfast in our mission so that no family has to endure this loss in the future.”

Dane’s final onscreen performances will be in Euphoria season three and Family Secrets.

  • WisdomTree Gets SEC Nod to Enable Instant Settlement for Tokenized Money Market Fund

WisdomTree Gets SEC Nod to Enable Instant Settlement for Tokenized Money Market Fund

    In brief

    • WisdomTree’s tokenized money market fund will soon trade 24/7.
    • The shift will also allow investors to cash out WTGXX instantly.
    • The arrangement required approvals from the SEC and FINRA.

WisdomTree said on Tuesday that it’s enabling instant settlement for its tokenized money market fund, indicating its product won’t be limited by Wall Street’s pace any longer.

The shift is expected to reduce “cash drag” associated with settlement delays in traditional markets, while harnessing certain advantages that are innate to digital assets, the institution with $168 billion in assets under management said in a press release.

The arrangement, which also enables round-the-clock trading for the WisdomTree Treasury Money Market Digital Fund (WTGXX), required exemptive relief from the SEC.

On Tuesday, the regulator said it was okay for investors to trade WTGXX’s shares at $1 with a dealer on an intraday basis, regardless of WTGXX’s net asset value. That is typically determined every business day immediately after U.S. markets close.

“The SEC is committed to working with market participants to foster innovation and modernization, especially in enabling the tokenization of our capital markets.” Brian Daly, SEC director of the division of investment management, told Decrypt. “This relief preserves the protections of a regulated money market fund while permitting retail investors intra-day liquidity.”

Although funds registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940 have historically functioned as investment vehicles, the SEC’s relief positions WisdomTree’s product as a form of digital cash that can be spent, moved, or traded instantly at any hour.

WisdomTree described that functionality as “unprecedented,” while unlocking the efficiency and liquidity advantages native to digital representations of real-world assets.

WisdomTree noted that its broker-dealer subsidiary gained FINRA approval to engage in principal trading for WTGXX. The company said that enables round-the-clock liquidity for shares in its tokenized money market fund, which can be exchanged for stablecoins.

At the same time, WisdomTree said its rollout “continues dividend accrual” for WTGXX, which involves using blockchain timestamps to track how long investors hold the token. That allows shareholders to earn yield even as WTGXX moves between wallets, WisdomTree said.

WTGXX was valued at $730 million on Tuesday, according to RWA.xyz. It has been issued across nine networks, such as Ethereum and Solana, while offering an annualized percentage yield of 3.5%. Backed by U.S. Treasuries, its shares aim to trade at a value of $1 like a stablecoin.

The development underscores how the SEC is becoming increasingly comfortable with mainstream financial products augmented by their blockchain-based format. In its relief order, the SEC said its green light was “appropriate in the public interest.”

In July, SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the agency was committed to modernizing securities rules and regulations enabling financial markets to move on-chain through an initiative called “Project Crypto.”

In the press release, WisdomTree Head of Digital Assets Will Peck indicated approvals from the SEC and FINRA are paving the way for that transition.

“This is a true innovation and improvement in the investor experience, and it demonstrates how blockchain can serve as a new set of rails for capital markets,” he said.

Editor’s note: This story was updated after publication with a comment from the SEC.

  • Solo Bitcoin Miner Nabs $200K After Renting $75 Worth of Hash Power

Solo Bitcoin Miner Nabs $200K After Renting $75 Worth of Hash Power

    In brief

    • A Bitcoin miner rented $75 worth of hash power and earned a $200,000 BTC reward by finding a block.
    • Based on current Bitcoin mining dynamics, such an event is likely to happen only once every 21 years.
    • Participating in solo Bitcoin mining has been likened by experts to “playing the lottery.”

A Bitcoin miner that rented $75 of mining power defied the odds by finding a solo block reward, earning more than 3.1 BTC worth around $200,000 early Tuesday.

The individual rented the minimum 1 Petahash/s (PH) of hash power via Braiins hash power marketplace, which allows users to rent Bitcoin mining capacity directly from the company without needing to install or operate any physical hardware themselves.

Based on the current hash rate of the Bitcoin network, at that mining capacity, a success would only occur approximately every 1 out of 1.1 million blocks, or about 21 years’ worth of mining, according to estimates from SoloChance.com.

Solo mining wins are rare, as most Bitcoin blocks are found and awarded to large mining pools that have dedicated massive amounts of computational power to solving cryptographic puzzles, which underpin Bitcoin’s public ledger and network.

But the act, likened by experts to “playing the lottery,” has provided a handful of jackpot winners of late. In January, two solo Bitcoin miners pulled in more than 3.1 BTC in respective rewards worth around $300,000 at the time. In December, another miner beat the odds, scoring a reward of more than $282,000 based on BTC’s price at that time.

The feats are even more impressive when you consider the growing hashrate, or the total computational power of the network, which is above 1.1 Zhash/s on average per day according to data from Bitinfo. At this time last year, the network’s overall computational power was around 730 Ehash/s—about 61% of its current capacity.

That growing share may be coming from miners in China or elsewhere, as North American mining pools saw a declining share of computation power in 2025. A portion of that decline can be attributed to pools and miners that had previously been focused on mining BTC shifting their attention to growing demand for AI compute.

For example, publicly traded Bitcoin miners like Bitfarms are completely winding down their mining operations, while others like Riot Platforms are being urged by investors to capitalize on opportunities in AI.

A representative for Braiins did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment.

Gavin Newsom Memoir Hits Top of Best-Sellers Chart Hours After Release

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, The Hollywood Reporter may receive an affiliate commission.

Gavin Newsom‘s new memoir has shot to the top of the best-sellers charts just hours after its release online.

Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery is billed as an “intimate and poignant account of identity, belonging, and the defining moments that inspired a life in politics,” and the book comes amid speculation that the California Governor is considering a 2028 presidential run.

Released Feb. 24, Newsom’s book is currently at the top of Amazon’s political biographies chart and in the Top Five of the site’s best-selling memoirs chart as of this writing.

    HARDCOVER VERSION

Released by Penguin Press, the book is available now as a 304-page hardcover. Newsom also narrates the audiobook version of “Young Man in a Hurry,” which you can listen to for free right now with a free trial to Audible here.

Newsom has made headlines in recent months both for squaring off with Donald Trump and for his grand plans to halt Hollywood’s so-called “filming exodus.” The governor has pledged to return television and movie production to California, signing a bill last year that would double the state’s tax incentives for film and TV projects from $330 million to $750 million annually. Still, Newsom has faced his fair share of detractors — even from Hollywood insiders — on issues outside of the industry.

In October, Joseph Gordon Levitt said the governor was “too scared” to veto legislation that would have banned companies from making AI chatbots available to people under the age of 18 (Newsom attributed his decision to the bill’s “broad restrictions,” though he did sign a law that requires platforms to remind users they are interacting with a chatbot and not a human, as well as prevent the promotion of self-harm content). Halle Berry, meantime, criticized Newsom in December for vetoing a menopause bill she backed, adding that, “That’s OK, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and the way he has overlooked women … he probably should not be our next president either.”

The new book was written too late to respond to the criticisms, but nevertheless seeks to position Newsom as an underdog, who took up baseball as a way to deal with his family dysfunction and his longtime struggles with dyslexia. The running theme throughout Newsom’s memoir: This is just a guy who has lived his whole life trying to make his home state proud.

“Born in San Francisco, his parents divorced at a young age, and his childhood was spent being tugged between two worlds: his mother worked three jobs in order to care for her children while his father, a close friend of the Getty family, brought Newsom into San Francisco society, a world of wealth and connections,” reads a book description. “The dissonance was frustrating, and made all the more difficult because of undiagnosed dyslexia, but the vantage point was valuable: he inherited his mother’s perseverance and his father’s reverence of California, not only its wildness, but its opportunity.”

For what it’s worth, Newsom has never lived outside of California — something that has both endeared him to locals and left him open to critique from potential voters in the rest of the country. The 58-year-old also memorably saw off a GOP-led recall effort in 2021.

For Newsom, “the California Dream” is what keeps him going, the publishers’ notes say. “His great-great-grandfather, a cop, walked a beat in San Francisco, where almost 150 years later, Newsom would be elected as mayor, running on the values instilled in him by his family history: that California’s open arms must continue to extend to each new generation,” a description reads.

Of course, the book chronicles Newsom’s entire political career, including his time as mayor of San Francisco, where he issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples more than 10 years before the Supreme Court made same-sex unions legal. The book also lauds his “bold efforts” to “counter climate change, improve mental health care, and enhance gun safety.”

As the book description states, Newsom’s memoir is a “deeply resilient California story of identity, belonging, and the defining moments that inspired a life in politics.”
