  • ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Reveals Season 4 Premiere Date and First Trailer

    It’s a bold new world for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the series prepares to launch season four.

    The team behind the Paramount+ show hit the CCXP Mexico stage on Saturday to reveal that the fourth season premiere will debut globally on July 23. The 10-episode season rolls out weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 24 for the series that was last seen with the season three finale that began streaming in September.

    Star Trek: Strange New Worlds castmembers Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding and Paul Wesley announced the return date and debuted the new season’s teaser trailer in front of a packed auditorium at the annual event in Mexico City. Anson Mount leads the series as Capt. Christopher Pike, while Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Martin Quinn and Carol Kane round out the cast.

    “It’s a form of escapism,” Wesley said in explaining the enduring appeal of the Star Trek franchise and its optimism. “It’s a form of us believing in that kind of future.” The crowd was clearly thrilled to see the Vampire Diaries star in attendance and screamed wildly almost every time he took the microphone to speak or mentioned his former show. This led him to joke, “I’ve got to come to Mexico City more often.”

    In the first footage, La’An Noonien-Singh (Chong) warns Nyota Uhura (Gooding), “Any of these missions could be our last.”

    The trailer ends with James T. Kirk (Wesley) declaring, “Let’s boldly go.”

    Wesley joked from the statge, “I’m just flattered that they’re premiering it on my birthday. Of course, that’s on purpose.”

    Romijn added, “We’re so proud of this show, and we’re really proud of season four — and season five. We really think it’s our best season yet.” The actress also added about season four, “There’s dinosaurs!”

    Wesley went on to tease about season four: “We explore a little about Kirk’s past and the demons that are haunting him.”

    Star Trek: Strange New Worlds wrapped production last year on its fifth and final season. Season five will introduce two legacy characters from the original Star Trek series that premiered in 1966, with Thomas Jane set to play Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy and Kai Murakami portraying Hikaru Sulu. The first three seasons are currently streaming on Paramount+.

    Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers serve as co-showrunners for Strange New Worlds. Executive producers for season four include Goldsman, Myers, Mount, Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Dana Horgan, Alan McElroy, Robbie Thompson, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Chris Fisher, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth.

    Two months following the deadly shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, OpenAI’s Sam Altman has formally apologized for not informing police of the alarming ChatGPT conversations seen with the suspect’s account. Before the incident, OpenAI banned the account belonging to the alleged shooter, Jesse Van Rootselaar, for violating its usage policy due to potential for real-world violence.

    “I am deeply sorry that we did not alert law enforcement to the account that was banned in June,” Altman wrote in the letter. “While I know words can never be enough, I believe an apology is necessary to recognize the harm and irreversible loss your community has suffered.”

    Altman noted in the letter, which was published in full by Tumbler RidgeLines, that he spoke with both Darryl Krakowa, Tumbler Ridge’s mayor, and David Eby, the British Columbia premier, and agreed that a “public apology was necessary, but that time was also needed to respect the community as you grieved.”

    Eby, who also highlighted Altman’s letter in his post on X, agreed that the “apology is necessary,” but added that it was “grossly insufficient for the devastation done to the families of Tumbler Ridge.” Moving ahead, Altman reaffirmed in the letter that OpenAI would “find ways to prevent tragedies like this in the future” and work with all levels of government to prevent something like this from happening again. Altman’s latest commitment builds on the previous letter from OpenAI’s vice president of global policy Ann O’Leary, who said the company would notify authorities if it finds “imminent and credible” threats in ChatGPT conversations.

    Lionsgate‘s Michael almost looked very different on screen — and its director, Antoine Fuqua, and producer, Graham King, received even larger paydays after the film underwent major reshoots.

    As The Hollywood Reporter previously reported, the film’s third act was scrapped amid legal concerns tied to a prior settlement involving one of Jackson’s accusers. The Jackson estate paid for extensive reshoots to reshape the film.

    According to a Bloomberg report published Friday, just as Michael danced its way into theaters, Fuqua and King were initially set to earn $10 million and $6 million, respectively, for directing and producing the biopic about the late Michael Jackson, starring his real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop. King received an additional $10 million, while Fuqua secured an extra $15 million, to complete the reshoots.

    “Graham King worked on the Michael film for seven years. Because the film needed to go back into production and a new budget developed, King and Antoine Fuqua had to postpone other projects and commitments,” a spokesperson for King shared with THR. “This was part of the newly formed budget and an advance against the film.”

    Michael was originally slated for an April 2025 release, but the production required a significant overhaul, ultimately landing in theaters in April 2026.

    The original cut included Jackson facing child sexual abuse allegations, which made up much of the third act. However, one past accuser had previously reached a settlement with the estate that guaranteed he could never be depicted in future commercial projects. As a result, an additional 22 days of filming took place in June 2025, and the filmmakers are now considering a sequel to continue telling more of Jackson’s story. Michael now ends in 1988, more than twenty years before Jackson’s death in 2009.

    The decision to remove references to the allegations was also reportedly influenced by concerns that including them could hurt the film’s box office performance.

    THR reached out to Lionsgate, the Michael Jackson Estate and reps for Fuqua but did not hear back by the time of publication.

    Still, Michael has exceeded expectations at the box office, with projections between $94 million and $100 million domestically and a global launch nearing $200 million as of Saturday, despite a wave of negative reviews from critics. The film currently sits at 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

    The film continues to face criticism beyond its reviews. James Safechuck, one of the two men whose allegations of childhood sexual abuse by the “Thriller” singer were explored in HBO’s 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, released a video message Friday addressed to other survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

    The biopic chronicles Michael Jackson’s rise to fame, from his childhood years in the Jackson 5 during the 1960s to his emergence as the King of Pop and one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers before his death in 2009.

    Earlier this week, Kat Graham also made headlines after confirming that her scenes as Diana Ross were cut from the film due to “legal considerations.”

    The fifth episode of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” opened with a sketch mocking Keir Starmer’s choice of Peter Mandelson as British ambassador to the U.S.

    The sketch featured Al Nash as Jeremy Clarkson – a.k.a. “fake farmer and real asshole” – as the host of “Who Wants to Remain a Millionaire?” and George Fouracres as Starmer. The question posed was, “Is it ever a good idea to give Peter Mandelson a job?” His possible answers were: A: No; B: Of course, not; C: Not in a million years; D: Yes.

    When Starmer goes 50/50, he’s left with the choice between: C: Not in a million years, and D: Yes. But he still can’t decide, so he calls a friend, and his choice of a friend is … Mandelson.

    Mandelson – described by Clarkson as a “pedophile adjacent Bond villain” – is wearing a dressing gown with a JE monogram, bathed in red light. Mandelson, played by Larry Dean, says: “Give me a job? I’d be careful if I were you.” Starmer still can’t decide, but pushed by Clarkson he says, “D: Yes.”

    This week’s episode is hosted by “Bridgerton’s” Nicola Coughlan and features Foo Fighters as the musical guest.

    During her opening monologue on “Saturday Night Live U.K.,” host Nicola Coughlan got a little assistance from “SNL” legend Jimmy Fallon, who joined the “Bridgerton” star for a chaotic studio tour and an explicit rap about her new animated film “The Magic Faraway Tree.”

    Coughlan kicked off her monologue by poking fun at her “Bridgerton” character, saying she “played an aristocrat who came out as a messy bitch who lives for drama,” and joking that she decided to channel the “magic” of the original ’70s “SNL” by consuming a “staggering amount of cocaine.”

    “It’s an honor to be hosting. It sort of feels like I manifested it somehow — it’s almost like this place is like magic,” Coughlan said as Fallon appeared. “That’s because it is!” he said.

    Fallon then shared with Coughlan the “biggest secret of ‘SNL.’” “Well, don’t tell anyone, but it’s live,” Fallon said. “It’s actually live. I mean, you can do whatever you want, you can go wherever you want. You’re the host. They don’t stop you.”

    The two then embarked on a chaotic studio tour, taking the cameras backstage to mess with “Weekend Update” hosts Ania Magliano and Paddy Young as well as cast members George Fouracres and Hammed Animashaun. Fallon even dared Coughlan to ask Dave Grohl — who is serving as musical guest with his band Foo Fighters — to be her best friend. “Because we’re live, he has to say yes,” Fallon said.

    “Mr. Dave Grohl, will you be my best friend?” Coughlan asked, to which Grohl replied “Sure, why not!”

    After Coughlan’s monologue, the show immediately segued into a digital short spoofing Coughlan’s latest film, animated family movie “The Magic Faraway Tree.” In the sketch, Coughlan tells studio execs that she wrote a rap song and recorded a music video to promote the movie, which as it turns out, is actually very explicit.

    “It’s the faraway tree, and it’s magic as fuck,” Coughlan raps sporting a big jacket and braids. “Thick leaves, Nicky C and a magical trunk.”

    Other lyrics include: “Critics agree, man this movie’s a blast. Except for The Times, who can eat my ass!”

    Fallon then features in the video as an on-set caterer, rapping: “My name is Keith/ I did the on-set catering/ For when the cast and crew’s energy is wavering/ Anything they need, you know I would get it/ Hey look, here’s my fucking name in the credits.”

    To end the sketch, Coughlan reveals that she and Keith “actually started dating on the movie, and let me tell you, things got pretty freaky.”

    Coughlan’s stint as host marks the first episode after “SNL U.K.” took a mid-season hiatus. Alongside Fey, previous hosts have also included Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed and Jack Whitehall.

    The Litecoin team stated that outdated mining nodes accepted an invalid MWEB (MimbleWimble Extension Block) transaction due to this vulnerability. It was reported that this error allowed some coins to be transferred to third-party decentralized exchanges (DEX).

    However, a swift response was implemented to secure the network. Litecoin developers announced that a 13-block “reorg” (chain reorganization) was applied to reverse these invalid transactions. This, they added, prevented the erroneous transactions from being included in the main chain.

    The statement also noted that valid transactions carried out during this process were not affected, and only erroneous transactions were rolled back. The development team reported that the security vulnerability has been fully patched and the network is currently operating normally.

    Hazbin Hotel has been renewed for a fifth and final season at Prime Video.

    The hit adult-animated musical comedy series’ renewal was announced on Saturday during a panel at LVL UP Expo in Las Vegas.

    “I’m so thankful for how Prime Video has championed our vision at SpindleHorse, and I’m grateful for their partnership and commitment to bringing Hazbin Hotel to its epic conclusion,” said Medrano. “I’m so excited for fans to see how this story ends.”

    The show, from A24 and Bento Box Entertainment, is created by Vivienne Medrano and is based on her animated pilot, released on YouTube in 2019. Erika Henningsen, Stephanie Beatriz, Blake Roman and Amir Talai, Alex Brightman and more star.

    Here’s the official synopsis: “Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be ‘checking out’ into Heaven.     Lawyers say El Gamal family detained by Trump administration hours after returning home from 10-month detention.

    A United States federal court has blocked the administration of United States President Donald Trump from deporting a woman and her five children following their release from immigration detention.

    Hayam El Gamal and her five children, ranging in age from five to 18 years old, had been held for 10 months prior to their release earlier this week following a judge’s order. They had been held in detention for the longest of any known family during Trump’s second term in office,

    But just days after returning to their home in Colorado, immigration authorities again detained the family on Saturday and sought to swiftly deport them, according to their lawyer.

    “The Trump administration has kidnapped the El Gamal family in violation of a federal court order from the Western District of Texas, which ordered them Thursday not to detain or remove the family from the United States,” a statement from the family lawyers, shared by lawyer Eric Lee, said.

    “The attempt to remove the El Gamal family is in violation of a federal court order and must be halted immediately,” it adds.

    Lee said shortly after that US District Judge Fred Biery, who ordered the family’s initial release on Thursday, had granted an emergency order on Saturday barring their removal.

    The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Al Jazeera’s request for comment.

    The Trump administration has at times flouted court orders barring it from deporting people from the US, pushing a hardline approach that critics say has defied legal constraints.

    That has come amid a wider campaign to restrict immigration, legal and illegal, particularly from non-Western countries.

    Hayam El Gamal and her children were detained by the Trump administration after her former husband, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, attacked a group of people in Boulder, Colorado, as they gathered in support of Israeli captives held by the Palestinian armed group Hamas in June 2025.

    An 82-year-old woman later died from injuries sustained during the incident.

    Soliman’s family condemned the attack and denied any knowledge that it was going to take place, with NBC News reporting that El Gamal divorced her husband soon after his arrest.

    An FBI agent also testified under oath that there was no evidence that the family, who have not been charged with any crimes, was aware of the father’s plan.

    Their nearly yearlong detention by the Trump administration has been described by the family’s lawyers and several lawmakers as an illegal and cruel effort to punish the family for an act they did not commit.

    Following Soliman’s arrest, the White House, in a post on X, said it would seek to immediately expel the family, whose lawyers have said are in the process of applying for asylum after coming to the US on tourist visas from Egypt.

    “Six One-Way Tickets for Mohamed’s Wife and Five Kids. Final Boarding Call Coming Soon,” the White House post said.

    The family has experienced deteriorating health and been denied proper medical care while in detention, according to their lawyers. Earlier in April, El Gamal was hospitalised due to a medical emergency related to an untreated growth on her chest, they said.

    Immigration rights groups have noted that it is typically illegal to detain children for extended periods of time.

    In a statement earlier this week, US Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat, said the Trump administration’s motives would be clear if they sought to re-detain the family despite the judge’s order to release them.

    “If, despite the judge’s recommendation, the Department of Homeland Security still objects to the release of an innocent woman and her five children, we know exactly why that is the case,” Durbin said.

    “It is not because they present any danger to the community or a flight risk. It is because they are immigrants – Arab Muslim immigrants at that.”
