  • OpenAI will amend Defense Department deal to prevent mass surveillance in the US

OpenAI will amend Defense Department deal to prevent mass surveillance in the US

OpenAI’s Sam Altman said the company will amend its deal with the Defense Department (or the Department of War) to explicitly prohibit the use of its AI system on mass surveillance against Americans. Altman has published an internal memo previously sent to employees on X, telling them that the company will tweak the agreement to add language to make that point especially clear. Specifically, it says:

“Consistent with applicable laws, including the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, National Security Act of 1947, FISA Act of 1978, the AI system shall not be intentionally used for domestic surveillance of U.S. persons and nationals.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Department understands this limitation to prohibit deliberate tracking, surveillance, or monitoring of U.S. persons or nationals, including through the procurement or use of commercially acquired personal or identifiable information.”

Altman has also claimed in the memo that the agency affirmed that its services will not be used by its intelligence agencies, including the NSA, without a modification to their contract. He added that if he received what he believed was an unconstitutional order, he would rather go to jail than follow it.

In addition, the OpenAI CEO has admitted in the memo that the company shouldn’t have rushed to get the deal out on Friday, February 27, since the issues were “super complex and demand clear communication.” Altman explained that the company was “trying to de-escalate things and avoid a much worse outcome” but it “looked opportunistic” in the end. If you’ll recall, OpenAI announced the partnership shortly after President Trump ordered all US government agencies to stop using Claude and any other Anthropic services. To note, Anthropic started working with the US government in 2024.

The Defense Department and Secretary Pete Hegseth had been pressuring Anthropic with to remove its AI’s guardrails so that it can be used for all “lawful” purposes. Those include mass surveillance and the development of fully autonomous weapons. Anthropic refused to bow down to Hegseth’s demands and in a statement said that “no amount of intimidation or punishment” will change its “position on mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons.” Trump issued the order as a result. The Defense Department had also taken the first steps to designate Anthropic as a “supply chain risk,” which is typically reserved for Chinese companies believed to be working with their country’s government.

Altman said that in his conversations with US officials, he reiterated that Anthropic shouldn’t be designated as a supply chain risk and that he hoped the Defense Department would offer it the same deal OpenAI agreed to. In an AMA session on X over the weekend, Altman clarified that he didn’t know the details of Anthropic’s agreement and how it differed from the one OpenAI signed. But if it had been the same, he thought Anthropic should have agreed to it.

After the news broke out about OpenAI’s deal, Anthropic climbed its way to the number one spot of the App Store’s Top Free Apps leaderboard, beating out both ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Anthropic, capitalizing on Claude’s sudden popularity, launched a memory import tool to make switching to its chatbot from another company’s easier. Meanwhile, uninstalls for ChatGPT’s jumped by 295 percent day-over-day, according to Sensor Tower.

Pump.fun expands app beyond native tokens with support for WBTC, USDC and rival launchpads

Pump.fun, a Solana-based token launchpad, announced a significant expansion of its mobile application today, allowing users to trade assets beyond its native ecosystem for the first time.

It’s time to bring the Pump fun app to the next level

For the first time ever, users can trade more than just Pump fun coins

With support for other launchpads, WBTC, $PUMP, USDC & more, the Pump fun app is more versatile than ever 👇 pic.twitter.com/FkKEwJ8zR8

    — Pump.fun (@Pumpfun) March 2, 2026

The platform said its app now supports tokens from external launchpads alongside established Solana assets including $PUMP, wrapped Bitcoin and wrapped Ethereum through Wormhole, GIGA, and PENGU.

The shift transforms the interface from a single-launchpad tool into a multi-asset trading environment.

The company reported its mobile application has exceeded 1.5 million downloads over the past year. It characterized the update as an effort to minimize user friction by enabling trading and custody of diverse assets within a single platform.

Promotional material accompanying the announcement displayed mentions of Raydium and Meteora within the interface, suggesting additional protocol integrations may follow.

  • Jon Stewart Rages Over Iran War: “This Is Trump’s Whole Presidency”

Jon Stewart opened The Daily Show on Monday by launching into criticism of President Donald Trump‘s attack on Iran.

During his opening monologue (below), the comedy host mocked what the show dubbed “Mess O’Potamia: America’s Next Top Muddle.”

Letting the f-bombs fly, Stewart laid into Trump’s inconsistent communication and lack of congressional approval on the issue.

At one point, Stewart played clips that aired during the 2024 election of some on the right saying that Trump would be a “peace through strength” president who would keep the United States out of war. This was followed by clips collected since Friday of Trump supporters praising the strike.

“How quickly the right has gone from ‘peace through strength’ to ‘peace through war,’” Stewart said. “And we’re all just along for the ride in a war with no clear purpose, no end in sight, all at the whims of Donald Trump.”

    Stewart mocked…

The name “Operation Epic Fury”: “Epic Fury?! Did the Paul Brothers launch another energy drink?”

On Trump’s video announcing the attack from Mar-a-Lago while wearing a white baseball cap: “This is how we’re doing this? Mar-a-Lago basement? No lighting? You don’t even have one of those influencer halo lights? And this is what we’re wearing? Blazer, no tie, shirt unbuttoned? Looking more like the father of the bride settling up with the caterer? Not to nitpick, obviously, but baseball hat? We’re going with a baseball hat for a war of choice? Oh, I’m gonna go down and make my war announcement. ‘Don’t forget the HAT I got you that’s bigger than your head.’ … We should at least be thankful that the hat is forwards.”

On 86-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei being killed in a U.S. airstrike: “I doubt he’s anywhere near a location that obvious, given the advance surveillance he’s been under … He stayed in his house?! Old people are so fucking stubborn. America apparently had to start an entire war to kill an 86-year-old in ill health and not wait, I don’t know, three weeks to let saturated fat do its thing.” (Stewart also ripped into sympathetic studio audience noises for Khamenei — “Sorry, am I going too hard on Khamenei? A murderous dictator … who mowed down his own people?”)

On the House being set to vote on the war powers resolution on Thursday: “This coming Thursday?! The war already fucking happened! This is Trump’s whole presidency, he does whatever the fuck he wants and then a few days later, Congress is like: ‘Excuse me! Roll your window down. Excuse me, sir?! You’re not allowed to knock down the East Wing without a permit from the homeowner’s association. We’re going to let it slide this time.’ The U.S. Congress is like male nipples. Why do you exist? What do you do? Nothing! You do nothing!”

On Iran launching strikes at other countries in the Middle East: “So let me get this straight: America and Israel attack Iran. And Iran’s answer is to just attack everybody. You know, having been in a bar fight, I’m pretty sure the worst thing to do in a two-on-one beat down is to slap everybody else.”

After showing a clip of Trump rambling about random topics during a press briefing about the war: “I can’t believe our bombs are now smarter than our President.”

On Friday, Trump launched “Operation Epic Fury” targeting Iran to destroy its missile production, navy and nuclear capabilities following alleged “imminent threats.” The conflict has resulted in the death of many senior Iranian officials, significant infrastructure damage in Iran and four U.S. service member deaths. Trump has said the campaign could last weeks and hasn’t ruled out the use of U.S. troops on the ground.

  • NBA Fantasy: Latest High Score perfect lineup

NBA Fantasy: Latest High Score perfect lineup

Nikola Jokić capped off the week by posting back-to-back games with 70 or more fantasy points.

We’re into a new month as the fantasy basketball playoffs loom in a few weeks. This might be your last chance to get a few more wins and sneak into the postseason, unless you’ve done your work already and have clinched a berth.

In the middle of Week 18 of the fantasy basketball season, we had a clash of top teams in both conferences with the Pistons taking on the Thunder. Detroit would come out on top with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander not quite ready to return from injury. However, SGA was able to return the next game for OKC and post 69 fantasy points in a win over the Nuggets. That total wasn’t enough to get him into the perfect lineup. Let’s take a look at the players who were able to make it on and likely helped your fantasy team pick up a W this past week.

High Score Perfect Lineup. (Graphic via: Taylor Wilhelm)

    More on the top performers

Cade Cunningham: Cade just edges out Alperen Sengun for the top spot of last week. The Pistons have won five of the past six games since the All-Star break and are still 5.5 games clear of the Boston Celtics for first place in the Eastern Conference as we enter March. Cunningham had his best stretch of play since November, posting four double-doubles in the past five games. His line vs. the Thunder was 29-13-4 with 6 stocks to get to the top of the leaderboard.

Tyrese Maxey: Maxey continues to fill up the score sheet with at least 27 points in each game since the All-Star break. His assist numbers have crept up in that stretch of six games with at least seven dimes in four of those contests. Maxey has been a league-winning type of player all season and should finish out the campaign as such given the Sixers are trying to avoid dropping down to the play-in tourney.

Alperen Sengun: It feels like every so often we get the spike game from the Rockets big man. He’s been much more inconsistent in the second half of the season and is averaging just 46.6 fantasy points over the past 30 days. Still, we know what Sengun is capable of with the triple-double ceiling while being a disruptor on the defensive end. In a blowout win over the Kings, Sengun posted a 26-13-11 triple-double with 5 stocks to just miss the top score overall.

Nikola Jokić: Oddly enough the return of Jokić has not helped the Nuggets as much as we thought. Aaron Gordon’s continued absence has hurt the team and now Cameron Johnson is banged up. Denver is 5-8 since the Joker returned to the lineup back on Jan. 30. Plus, Jokić continues to be pedestrian by his lofty standards for fantasy managers, though that isn’t exactly the same in High Score. He’s at least topped out with high scores of 85, 94 and now 75 over the past three weeks.

Victor Wembanyama: Wemby and the Spurs wrap up a tough five-game road trip on Tuesday against the Sixers before taking on the Pistons again at home. In the last meeting between those two teams, Wemby posted 67 fantasy points to get onto this list with 21-17-4 and 6 blocks in 36 minutes. Wembanyama is starting to play heavier minutes as San Antonio tries to unseat OKC at the top of the West.

Jalen Duren: The Pistons center has battled through injuries most of the season, missing 10 games so far. But when he’s on the court, he’s played at an All-Star level (he was an All-Star for the first time this season). We’d like to see better block totals overall from Duren; he had 3 in a narrow win over the Cavs to go with 33 points, 16 rebounds and 3 assists. If Duren can reach that ceiling more often, he could be pivotal for managers down the stretch.

Luka Dončić: The Lakers wrapped up Week 18 with back-to-back wins over the weekend thanks to some efficient scoring by Luka; he had a total 54 points in 58 minutes spanning the two contests. Despite consistently popping up in this lineup for most of the season, February wasn’t exactly kind to Dončić. He battled through injuries early in the month and through the All-Star break and failed to post a triple-double in nine straight games.

Spain refuses to let US use bases for Iran attacks

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has condemned US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Spain says the United States is not using – and will not be using – joint military bases on its territory for operations against Iran, a mission condemned by Madrid.

“Based on all the information I have, the bases are not being used for this military operation,” Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares told Spanish public television on Monday.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has condemned US and Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Saturday as an “unjustified” and “dangerous military intervention” outside the realm of international law, in another break from US policy.

“The Spanish government will not authorise the use of the bases for anything beyond the agreement or inconsistent with the United Nations,” Albares said, referring to the Rota naval base and the Moron airbase.

The US operates at the bases under a joint-use arrangement, but they remain under Spanish sovereignty.

Defence Minister Margarita Robles said the bases “will not provide support, except if, in a given case, it were necessary from a humanitarian perspective”.

Spain also condemned the retaliatory attacks by Iran on Gulf countries.

According to maps by flight-tracking website FlightRadar24 on Monday, 15 US aircraft have left bases in southern Spain since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran. At ‌least seven of the aircraft were shown on FlightRadar24 as having landed at Ramstein airbase in Germany.

The Spanish position is an outlier among the major European countries.

Britain had also initially refused to allow the use of its bases for an attack on Iran, but on Sunday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer authorised their use for “collective self-defence”, amid Iranian counterattacks targeting US assets across the Middle East and energy infrastructure in the Gulf region.

France and Germany, meanwhile, are prepared to do the same.

The three countries’ leaders were “appalled by the indiscriminate and disproportionate missile attacks launched by Iran against countries in the region, including those who were not involved in initial US and Israeli military operations”, read a joint statement on Sunday.

“We have agreed to work together with the US and allies in the region on this matter,” they stated.

  • Iran Conflict Not Major Concern For Bitcoin Mining Hashrate, Say Experts

Iran Conflict Not Major Concern For Bitcoin Mining Hashrate, Say Experts

    In brief

    • Social media rumors argued that massive BTC dumps and hashrate collapse could follow the U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran.
    • Analysts and miners say Iran’s share of global Bitcoin mining is small and the impact limited.
    • War-driven volatility is tied more to price sentiment than supply network risk, they argued.

The escalating conflict in Iran is unlikely to significantly disrupt the global Bitcoin mining network, industry analysts and operators said, countering circulating rumours on social media platforms suggesting a disastrous hit to hashrate and a flood of Bitcoin sell-offs.

“I don’t think it’s of any major concern for Bitcoin,” Wolfie Zhao, head of research at TheMinerMag, told Decrypt, dismissing suggestions that conflict-related power outages in Iran would materially affect the network. While individual miners could see disruptions, the scale is not comparable to past global shocks like the 2021 crackdown on mining in China, Zhao added.

The remarks come amid heightened speculation on social media platforms that the war could force the collapse of Iran’s mining industry, leading to billions of dollars in BTC dumped on markets and hundreds of thousands of rigs going offline.

Bitcoin dipped and then rebounded over the weekend. But on X, posters warned that disruption to Iran’s power grid could lead to “2-5%” of the global Bitcoin hashrate being impacted, with one tweet on Saturday arguing that “If this regime falls: – Billions in BTC get dumped or lost forever – 5% of global hashrate disappears overnight – 427,000 rigs go dark Get ready for the supply shock.”

According to data from CoinWarz, Bitcoin’s hashrate was around 986.1876 EH/s on February 28 in the immediate aftermath of the first U.S.-Israeli attacks, and rose to highs of 1.1361 ZH/s on March 1, before dipping to just under 1 ZH/s Tuesday morning.

On Myriad, a prediction market owned by Decrypt’s parent company Dastan, users place an 51% chance on the Iranian regime falling by October—up almost 20% on the weekend.

    Crypto mining in Iran

Although it was legalized in 2019, crypto mining in Iran has faced significant structural hurdles for years, including unstable power, high import costs and regulatory complexities that have limited growth.

Ethan Vera, COO of Luxor Technology, said that even if Iranian mining activity were interrupted, there would be minimal impact on Bitcoin block times or network security. Estimates of Iran’s actual share of global hashrate vary, but most put it in the low single digits. Vera put it at below 1%.

“If there is an interruption there will be no material impact to block times, and zero impact to the security of the Bitcoin network,” he said.

He added he believed the industry there was made up of private enterprises mining small scale and legacy Chinese companies operating in the space.

Iran has built a substantial crypto ecosystem that serves as an alternative financial channel outside the U.S. dollar system, a system that the country is largely locked out of due to international sanctions.

“Iranian cryptocurrency activity is correlated to political events and conflict at home and abroad,” said Chainalysis in a report in January. It estimated that Iran’s broader crypto economy reached $7.78 billion in 2025, with a sizable portion of activity tied to state-linked entities.

The conflict has prompted a spike in cryptoasset outflows from Iranian exchanges, with a report from blockchain analytics firm Elliptic finding that outgoing transaction volumes spiked by 700% within minutes of the first U.S.-Israeli attack.

Rubio suggests US strikes on Iran were influenced by Israeli plans

The US secretary of state says he hopes Iranian people will overthrow the regime, as US military says six service members killed.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has suggested that a planned Israeli attack on Iran determined the timing of Washington’s assault on the government in Tehran.

The top diplomat told reporters on Monday that Washington was aware Israel was going to attack Iran, and that Tehran would retaliate against US interests in the region, so US forces struck pre-emptively.

    Recommended Stories

list of 3 itemsend of list

“We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action,” Rubio said after a briefing with congressional leaders.

“We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t pre-emptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties.”

The state secretary’s comments came minutes before the US military confirmed that its death toll from the conflict has risen to six, after two bodies were recovered from a regional facility struck by Iran.

Tehran retaliated against the joint US-Israeli attacks that killed its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several top officials and hundreds of civilians, with drone and missile launches across the region, including against US bases and assets in the Gulf.

Rubio argued on Monday that although the US and Israel jointly attacked first, Washington was acting to thwart an immediate threat because Israel was going to strike Iran on its own, anyway.

Israel is a close US ally and has received at least $21bn in military aid from Washington since 2023.

“There absolutely was an imminent threat,” Rubio said. “And the imminent threat was that we knew that if Iran was attacked – and we believed they would be attacked – that they would immediately come after us.”

The assertion highlights the Israeli role in bringing about the war with Iran, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been seeking for years.

On Sunday, Netanyahu said the attacks on Iran are happening with the assistance of his “friend”, US President Donald Trump.

“This coalition of forces allows us to do what I have yearned to do for 40 years,” the Israeli prime minister said in a video message.

Rubio told reporters on Monday that an attack on Iran had to happen because Tehran was amassing missiles and drones that it would have used to protect its nuclear programme and acquire a nuclear bomb.

Israel and the US launched the war less than 48 hours after a round of talks between American and Iranian officials over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Rubio said the goal of the war is to destroy Iran’s missile and drone programmes, but stressed the US would welcome ending the governing system in Tehran.

“We would not be heartbroken, and we hope that the Iranian people can overthrow this government and establish a new future for that country. We would love for that to be possible,” he said.

Later on Monday, Washington urged US citizens across more than a dozen countries in the Middle East – including Gulf Cooperation Council nations, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories – to “depart now”.

The advisory reflects the growing turmoil and threats in the region.

The State Department “urges Americans to DEPART NOW from the countries below using available commercial transportation, due to serious safety risks”, US official Mora Namdar said on X.

  • Nasdaq Wants a Piece of the Prediction Market Biz Too

Nasdaq Wants a Piece of the Prediction Market Biz Too

    In brief

    • Nasdaq files with the SEC to offer binary “Outcome Related Options” contracts.
    • The move puts Nasdaq in competition with Kalshi, Polymarket, and Crypto.com.
    • Wall Street giants like ICE, CME Group, and Cboe are also entering the space.

Nasdaq Inc., the parent company of the second-largest stock exchange by market capitalization, wants to roll out its own prediction market offering.

The company intends to offer options contracts for yes-or-no bets, which would be priced between 1 cent and $1, according to an SEC filing submitted early Monday morning.

Nasdaq’s so-called Outcome Related Options would let traders take binary positions on whether a specified event happens. Binary options are a simplified version of more traditional option contracts that payout depending on the outcome of a yes-or-no proposition.

If the requested rule change is approved, this will be Nasdaq’s first foray into the prediction market space—albeit under the regulation of the SEC rather than the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. The company’s would-be competitors, like Kalshi, Polymarket, and Crypto.com, are all regulated by the CFTC through Designated Contract Markets licenses.

Prediction markets are effectively a form of derivative contracts that allow traders to wager on the outcome of virtually anything—from stock and crypto prices to sports, cultural, and political events. The industry has exploded over the last year, generating billions in trading volume on a weekly basis.

There’s been ongoing discourse, though, about which federal regulator, the SEC or CFTC, has jurisdiction over prediction market platforms. In February, CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said “see you in court” in response to state attorneys general and gaming commissions who have argued that prediction markets encroach on their regulatory frameworks.

But there’s also been some mention of the SEC having a role in overseeing prediction markets. SEC Chair Paul Atkins has suggested that some prediction markets could fall under the agency’s jurisdiction.

“Prediction markets are exactly one thing where there’s overlapping jurisdiction potentially,” Atkins said at the time, in response to a question from Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA). “That is a huge issue we’re focused on.”

Other Wall Street giants have already gotten on the field.

In October 2025, New York Stock Exchange owner Intercontinental Exchange invested up to $2 billion in Polymarket, bringing the company’s valuation to a whopping $9 billion. Although a press release said the investment would be worth “up to $2 billion,” a Polymarket spokesperson told Decrypt that it was accurate to call it a $2 billion investment.

Derivatives exchange CME Group has teamed up with FanDuel for a prediction market offering. And Cboe, its competitor derivatives exchange operator, has taken a strategy similar to Nasdaq. Last month, the company began talks with brokers to offer yes-or-no contracts, unnamed sources told The Wall Street Journal.

  • Christina Applegate Now Cringes Over ‘Married With Children’ Audience Lusting for Her, Says Kelly Bundy Role Worsened Her Anorexia: ‘I Had to Be Skinny. I Was Size 0’

Christina Applegate Now Cringes Over ‘Married With Children’ Audience Lusting for Her, Says Kelly Bundy Role Worsened Her Anorexia: ‘I Had to Be Skinny. I Was Size 0’

Christina Applegate‘s memoir “You With the Sad Eyes” publishes March 3 and an exclusive excerpt is now available to read on Vulture in which the Emmy winner writes candidly about her body image struggles while filming “Married… with Children.” Applegate starred as Kelly Bundy on all 11 seasons of the classic Fox sitcom. She originally passed on the show after “I read the script and thought it was trash.”

“To me, and to my mom, it read like a bunch of poorly written potty humor,” Applegate explains. “I’d turned down ‘Married …,’ so the pilot featured another kid in the role of Kelly, but it just didn’t work so they came back to me. The casting director sent me a VHS of the pilot, and my mom and I reluctantly watched it one evening. I’m not sure what we thought we’d see, or why we even watched it in the first place as I was dead set against it. Boy, how much we wanted to hate it. We sat there like two little snotty actory assholes who’d spent their lives doing Shakespeare. And then, as the show played, we realized we could not stop laughing. I looked at my mom. She looked at me. ‘Fuck!’ I said. ‘It’s funny. It’s good.’”

Applegate already suffered from body dysmorphia and anorexia prior to being cast as Kelly Bundy, and the character only worsened the damaging effects on her body. Kelly was the Bundy family’s promiscuous and rebellious teenage daughter who played into “dumb blonde” tropes.

“I dug myself into a hole with that character, though, because I had to be skinny,” Applegate writes. “I had a vision of the specific clothes I wanted her to wear, and to wear those clothes — clothes that would show if you ate something as tiny as a single grape — I had to lean even deeper into my eating disorder.”

She continues, “If I was going to eat something as horrendously huge as a bagel, say, I would scoop it out and maybe have half of it, or half of a half. That would be my food intake for an entire day. Sometimes I’d punish myself and wouldn’t eat at all. I was a size 0, and the costume people on ‘Married …With Children’ would often have to take my clothes in. I was bone, bone, bone.”

“I worked so hard on my body, but I was never satisfied,” Applegate adds. “There were days when I’d go to a spin class, then work out with my trainer, then go to a dance class for two and a half more hours, always chasing the unobtainable, abusing my body in the service of a quest for perfection that was as damaging as any addiction.”

Playing Kelly meant Applegate often wore clothes that showed off her bare midriff. She writes that the clothes became “tighter” and the skirts “shorter” as the show progressed.

“By season five, my God: I could walk into the living room, as I did in episode 13, ‘The Godfather,’ in a leather fringed jacket over a short red shirt and there would be a five-second break in the scene while the crowd hollered lustily at me,” she writes. “I look at all this now and cringe. The show was indeed
broad, and lewd, and it wouldn’t have a shot in hell of being made these days. That’s a good thing: It’s hard enough for young women to thrive in a world of appearances.”

But Applegate does not hold any resentment towards the cast and crew of the show, nor does she blame anyone for the ways in which playing Kelly impacted her anorexia.

“Sure, it was always part of the show that I would be an object for men to leer at, but I wanted to wear those Kelly Bundy dresses, “Applegate writes. “And as hard as it may be to believe, I was genuinely innocent of my effect on people. I was just a kid. I knew my self‑denial of food and my generally damaging relationship with it were all trauma‑based.”

Head over to Vulture’s website to read the full excerpt from Applegate’s memoir, “You With the Sad Eyes.”
