Oregon AG Drops Demand For Records & Motion To Delay Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery Merger

UPDATED, with comment from AG: Oregon‘s attorney general has dropped a civil investigative demand for Paramount to turn over records related to its efforts to secure federal approval for its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield also had asked a state circuit court judge to order Paramount to turn over the materials and to delay Paramount’s closing of its proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by 60 days so the documents could be reviewed. A hearing has been scheduled for Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

A Paramount spokesperson said, “We are pleased that the Oregon Attorney General has withdrawn its motion to delay this transaction. It was the right decision and avoids an unwarranted effort to delay a lawful, pro-competitive merger.

“Antitrust authorities around the world have carefully reviewed this transaction, clearing it or concluding that it does not violate any competition laws. That regulatory record underscores what the facts, the law and the economics make clear: this transaction will create a stronger challenger to dominant global streaming and technology platforms, expand consumer choice, increase investment in premium content and theatrical distribution, and create more opportunities for creators and workers. We look forward to completing the transaction and delivering those benefits.”

Jenny Hansson, communications director for Rayfield, said in a statement, “Paramount made it clear that they weren’t going to comply with the investigative demand, and that they think they’re above the law. We’re not going to let them waste Oregonians’ resources on these games. We’ve withdrawn the motion to consider our next steps.”

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and other state attorneys general are said to be considering a legal challenge to the transaction.

Rayfield sought Paramount records of lobbying of federal officials, as well as its role in a statement that the DOJ released in support of the transaction. The attorney general also sought documents “related to the formulation and execution of lobbying strategies aimed at obtaining regulatory approval of the proposed merger, which Respond as internally named ‘Project Warrior.’”

In a court filing, Paramount has objected to the document requests, arguing, among other things, that they impose “burdens and demands which are disproportionate” to the Oregon investigation and are “of such marginal relevance that the value of any materials sought is outweighed by the burden imposed on Paramount in having to provide such information.”

“Lobbying activities and related communications are wholly irrelevant to whether the proposed acquisition ‘violates Oregon’s antitrust laws,’” the company’s legal team wrote.

MrBeast Producer, Disney, Women in Fan LatAm Fuel Costa Rica Media Market

Revitalized last year as an offshoot of the Central America and Caribbean Audiovisual Market, the Costa Rica Media Market (CRMM) promises a packed two-day conference over July 14-15, followed by fam tours for most of its participants.

Organized by Costa Rica’s Film Commission, its Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Promocomer), and tourism agency Essential Costa Rica, CRMM aims to bolster its position as a key platform for regional projects in the international market.

Spearheaded by film commissioner Marysela Zamora, the market expects to host 900 business meetings among a host of international players numbering some 350, an uptick from last year’s 275.

    Round Table Talks, CRMM

“One of the most exciting developments this year is the mix of industry perspectives coming together. We’re welcoming Disney, MrBeast, a new generation of producers working in Hollywood and leading players from countries like Mexico and Colombia—two of the region’s strongest audiovisual industries,” Zamora tells Variety.

“Bringing them into conversation with talent from Central America and the Caribbean creates a unique space for new ideas, partnerships and a more connected regional industry.”

Ari Cheren, the producer of MrBeast, the YouTube and TikTok phenomenon known for his fast-paced videos built around elaborate challenges and philanthropic efforts, will have the opportunity to meet with local producers and location managers, as well as join CRMM’s familiarization tours. “For us, it’s a valuable opportunity to showcase the talent, capabilities and locations that Costa Rica offers to international productions,” says Zamora.

Among this edition’s highlights is the launch of Women in Fan LatAm, an extension of the WomanInFan initiative founded by the Sitges Int’l Film Festival as well as the continuation of Fantastic Lab Central America & Caribbean, introduced last year.

“Through Fantastic Lab and Women in Fan LatAm, we’re opening new doors for genre cinema in Central America and the Caribbean, while showcasing 24 curated projects across fiction, documentaries and series. Together, they reflect a region with increasingly ambitious stories that are ready for the international stage,” Zamora notes.

Tuesday’s Day 1 kicks off with a conversation with Costa Rica’s first-ever Oscar-nominated talent, Felipe Pacheco, who was recognized in the best sound category for his work on Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners.”

This is followed by a much-anticipated talk on how studios choose where to film and questions what drives these all-important decisions. Panelists will include reps from Disney, 20th Century Studios and The Mediapro Studio’s Cimarrón Cine, known for a host of noteworthy credits, including J.A. Bayona’s Oscar- nominated “Society of the Snow.”

The second panel, titled “The Future of Storytelling,” features Julye Cuartas from 11:11 Films & TV, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, CEO Alegría Films and Greta Talia Fuentes, Development VP of Macro.

On Day 2, Charlye Sextro, senior VP of acquisitions & business development, Utopia will address one of the most perplexing issues that filmmakers face: “What Makes a Film Break Through? How Festivals, Buyers and Distributors Decide.”

This is followed by a panel comprising TIFF programmer Diana Cadavid, Puerto Rico Film Festival’s Lester Rive and Patricia Velázquez of the Costa Rica Film Festival who will discuss how festivals drive talent, industry and audiences.

The thorny issue of AI will of course be debated with Adriana Ramírez of Megatrax leading the discussion. Pitches and Workshops also form part of the agenda.

Lastly, Sitges Festival director general Mónica García and director-producer Luis Javier Enaine will discuss the notable expansion of genre cinema in Latin America with Pablo Guisa, CEO Grupo Mórbido, moderating.

“Our ambition is to establish Costa Rica Media Market as the leading audiovisual market for Central America and the Caribbean. We want it to be the place where international decision-makers come to discover the region’s next stories, talent and production opportunities. Ultimately, we hope the market becomes a catalyst for projects that move from development to production and reach audiences around the world,” Zamora concludes.

‘Pursuit of Jade,’ ‘Midnight Temptation’ Lead iQIYI International’s 130% H1 2026 Viewership Surge

iQIYI International’s global viewership rose 130% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, the streaming platform said in a report, crediting a dual-engine strategy that pairs premium Chinese dramas with fast-paced microdramas.

All 10 titles on iQIYI International’s top Chinese drama chart for the period were produced in-house, spanning historical epics, contemporary romance and coming-of-age stories. “Pursuit of Jade” ranked first across every content category on the platform and has topped Google search volume among Chinese historical dramas worldwide since 2025, a standing the company attributed to the show’s female-growth narrative and eastern aesthetic. Two other dramas from iQIYI International’s 2025 annual top 10 – “Fated Hearts” and “Speed and Love” – along with “The Best Thing,” reappeared on the H1 2026 chart.

Microdramas are increasingly serving as an entry point for international viewers discovering Chinese content, with high emotional intensity and rapid pacing suited to mobile-first viewing habits, per iQIYI. “Midnight Temptation” ranked as the top microdrama globally, built around themes of personal growth and a woman’s push for equal standing. Storylines centered on class reversal, female empowerment and contemporary romance made up the rest of the top 10 microdrama chart.

Localization has underpinned the growth, with subtitles now available in 13 languages alongside dubbing and a fan engagement effort the company calls the “iQIYI Starship Project,” which sends actors from hit titles out to markets including Thailand and Malaysia for live events. Thai-language dubbing helped push seven Chinese dramas into Thailand’s local top 10 this period.

Regional preferences varied across markets, per the report. Southeast Asian audiences showed strong demand for premium Chinese dramas and localized content, while in Japan and South Korea, microdramas now make up half of the ten top-trending titles. Expanded Spanish- and Portuguese-language dubbing widened the platform’s reach in Latin America, and Middle East audiences continued to favor realism and military-themed premium dramas.

iQIYI International launched its Global Trending Content initiative in January to track viewership patterns across its international footprint. The company said it remains focused on building out its slate of Asian dramas, animation, films and variety programming for global audiences.

  • Bank of Thailand Flags Abnormal Stablecoin Trades in ‘Grey Economy’ Crackdown

Bank of Thailand Flags Abnormal Stablecoin Trades in ‘Grey Economy’ Crackdown

    In brief

    • The Bank of Thailand is using data analytics to scan for abnormally high-volume trades in stablecoins, especially Tether’s USDT, as part of a crackdown on illicit finance.
    • Governor Vitai Ratanakorn said early reviews flagged transactions that appear designed to evade disclosure rules or bypass normal transfers; the SEC, which regulates digital assets, will decide on any follow-up.
    • The screening sits within a wider sweep targeting large cash deposits and withdrawals, gold trading, and online-gambling “mule” accounts.

Thailand’s central bank has turned data-analytics tools on the country’s stablecoin market, scanning high-volume trades for signs of illicit money as part of a widening crackdown on the shadow economy.

Bank of Thailand Governor Vitai Ratanakorn said the central bank has begun screening abnormally large stablecoin transactions, particularly in Tether’s USDT, and has already flagged some that appear designed to sidestep disclosure requirements or move funds outside normal banking channels, according to Thai outlet Thansettakij.

Because the Securities and Exchange Commission, rather than the central bank, directly regulates digital assets in Thailand, the Bank of Thailand is coordinating with the SEC, which holds the authority to act on the findings. USDT is the largest stablecoin and the most widely used trading pair on crypto exchanges, according to CoinGecko data.

    A wider net

The stablecoin screening is one strand of a broad campaign against what Thai officials call the “grey economy,” an effort the governor cast as a long haul requiring several measures running in parallel rather than any quick fix. Since April, banks have had to check the purpose of cash withdrawals of 5 million baht (about $150,000) or more, a rule the central bank says cut large cash withdrawals by roughly 35%. From the fourth quarter, depositors bringing in 5 million baht or more in cash may have to declare where it came from.

Regulators are also tightening controls on high-value banknote exchanges and gold trading, where officials noticed buyers ordering gold through an app in the morning and collecting it from shops in the afternoon. Suspicious activity is now reported to Thailand’s Anti-Money Laundering Office, and monthly gold withdrawals have fallen from about 4,000 kilograms to around 700. Banks have separately closed thousands of “mule” accounts linked to online gambling.

    Crypto in Thailand

Thailand has become a hotspot for crypto-enabled crime, and its agencies have been chasing it aggressively. Thai police recently traced a romance-scam laundering network in which a single wallet moved more than $122.5 million in 10 months through cross-chain swaps, as part of Interpol’s Operation First Light. In recent months, investigators have also widened a mining probe into a $300 million Chinese laundering network and seized $8.6 million in illegal mining rigs powering scam compounds.

At the same time, the country is courting legitimate crypto: the SEC’s three-year plan pushes tokenization and crypto ETFs, and the central bank says it is working to develop a baht-backed stablecoin as part of a broader financial-infrastructure overhaul.

  • Top 10 Crypto Presales to Watch in 2026: Why MemeToro $MT Leads the Crypto Presale List in July

Top 10 Crypto Presales to Watch in 2026: Why MemeToro $MT Leads the Crypto Presale List in July

Crypto presales have become far more competitive in 2026. Investors are no longer buying projects based only on marketing campaigns. Product development, security audits, token utility, staking, and ecosystem growth now play a much bigger role when evaluating new opportunities.

July has produced several standout projects across AI, gaming, infrastructure, and memecoins. Here are ten crypto presales attracting attention and why each has entered discussions around the best crypto presale opportunities of the year.

    MemeToro ($MT)

MemeToro combines AI automation with a growing Web3 ecosystem on $BNB Chain.

Instead of functioning as a standalone meme token, the platform centers on AI-assisted no-code token creation, allowing users to generate and launch new memecoins based on emerging online narratives.

Alongside the launchpad, the roadmap includes prediction markets, SocialFi features, staking, and behavioral finance tools.

The project is currently in Stage 4, having raised $66,670.37, with 82.52% of the current funding round completed. The token is priced at $0.00171, increasing to $0.00190 in the next stage.

    Little Pepe (LILPEPE)

Little Pepe has become one of the largest fundraising stories of 2026.

Built as an Ethereum Layer-2 project, it has already raised more than $28.19 million while approaching the final stages of its presale. One of its biggest selling points is a structured vesting model featuring an audited three-month cliff followed by gradual monthly unlocks.

That approach is designed to reduce immediate selling pressure after exchange listings.

    Maxi Doge ($MAXI)

Maxi Doge has attracted attention through staking rather than AI.

Its ecosystem offers a 76% APY staking program, with almost 10 billion tokens already locked by participants. The project also uses permanent 0% buy and sell taxes, making it attractive to active decentralized exchange traders looking for lower transaction costs.

The combination of staking incentives and tax-free trading has helped the presale approach the $4 million fundraising milestone.

    AlphaPepe (ALPE)

AlphaPepe is positioning itself around AI-powered trading infrastructure.

The project has raised more than $1.94 million while preparing to launch AlphaSwap, its AI-assisted decentralized exchange. Early exchange partnerships and growing retail participation have helped build momentum ahead of the platform rollout.

Its focus differs from traditional meme projects by combining AI with decentralized trading tools.

    Ionix AI Chain (IONIX)

Ionix AI Chain targets blockchain infrastructure.

Instead of building consumer applications, the project is developing a dedicated Layer-1 designed for decentralized AI processing. Its focus on AI infrastructure has attracted venture capital interest, making it one of the more technically focused presales currently available.

    Other Presales Worth Watching

Several additional projects continue attracting attention across different sectors:

    • WienerAI combines meme branding with an AI-powered trading assistant.
    • PlayDoge introduces Play-to-Earn gaming inspired by classic virtual pets.
    • Base Dawgz focuses on multi-chain interoperability across Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche.
    • Shiba Shootout blends mobile gaming with community governance rewards.
    • Mega Dice expands GambleFi through Telegram-native casino applications.

Each project targets a different audience, giving investors a wide range of options beyond traditional meme coins.

Functional Overview of the MemeToro Token Launchpad

The MemeToro platform provides a functional workspace for configuring, launching, and managing decentralized tokens within a unified interface. By operating on the $BNB Smart Chain, the application minimizes operational friction while maintaining a high degree of smart contract transparency.

    • Hands-Free Liquidity Provisions: Launch tokens with automatic decentralized exchange listings that require no manual team setup.
    • Monetize Project Volume: Route up to 1.2% of recurring transactional activity straight back to your wallet.
    • Equitable Public Access: Ensure balanced asset distribution from day one with built-in anti-whale launch limits.
    • Clear Portfolio Visualization: Monitor project health easily using advanced data tools that track live volume trends.

Securing an allocation in the current $MT utility token presale is managed through a centralized web portal. Prospective buyers authenticate their identity using verified cryptographic wallets, finalize payment processing, and receive their corresponding asset balances directly.

July Shows How Diverse Crypto Presales Have Become

This year’s presale market includes AI platforms, gaming ecosystems, infrastructure projects, trading protocols, and meme-focused communities. That variety reflects how much the sector has matured beyond simple token launches.

Projects like Little Pepe, Maxi Doge, AlphaPepe, and Ionix AI Chain each address different market segments. MemeToro stands out by bringing together AI-powered token creation, prediction markets, staking, and SocialFi within one ecosystem.

As investors continue researching the best crypto presale, July has become one of the busiest months of the year for new blockchain projects.

  • Steven Spielberg Praises ‘Jurassic Park’ Star Sam Neill as ‘Exceptionally Collaborative’ in Tribute to Late Actor: He ‘Will Never Be Forgotten’

Steven Spielberg Praises ‘Jurassic Park’ Star Sam Neill as ‘Exceptionally Collaborative’ in Tribute to Late Actor: He ‘Will Never Be Forgotten’

Steven Spielberg has paid tribute to his “Jurassic Park” star Sam Neill, who died on Monday at the age of 78.

“I owe a debt of gratitude to Roger Donaldson, Gilliam Armstrong, Graham Baker and Phillip Noyce for casting Sam Neill in the roles in which he was so brilliant that brought him to my attention and led to his playing Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park,” Spielberg said in a statement to Variety. “Sam was exceptionally collaborative. It was a stretch for him to play a character who acted as though children were messy and smelly because this was the opposite of the loving father he was to his children. I adored making all the Jurassic movies with him. Along with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, we will always have our Jurassic family and Sam will never be forgotten by us or his many millions of fans around the world.”

Neill, the New Zealand actor best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in Spielberg’s original “Jurassic Park” (1993) as well as follow-ups “Jurassic Park III” (2001) and “Jurassic World Dominion” (2022), was diagnosed in 2022 with stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. However, earlier this year he revealed he was cancer free.

In a statement on Monday, Neill’s family said that his death was “sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free.”

“Jurassic World Dominion” director Colin Trevorrow also honored the actor in an Instagram post, writing: “Sam Neill was a deeply soulful and beautiful man. He was a friend and collaborator at a challenging time, and his strength gave us all strength. I’ll remember him for his tranquility, his love of wine, and for the calm assuredness he brought to his characters. It’s not every lifetime you get to befriend a legend. Forever grateful.”

Besides his work in the “Jurassic Park” franchise, highlights from Neill’s five-decade career include the films “Dead Calm” with Nicole Kidman (1989), “The Hunt for Red October” alongside Sean Connery (1990) and Jane Campion’s Oscar darling “The Piano” (1993), as well as series “Reilly, Ace of Spies” (1983), “Merlin” (1998), “The Tudors” (2007) and “Peaky Blinders” (2013-14).

  • MemeToro vs Pump.fun: Which Fair-Launch Memecoin Platform Actually Protects Traders? $MT Deep Dive

MemeToro vs Pump.fun: Which Fair-Launch Memecoin Platform Actually Protects Traders? $MT Deep Dive

Launching a memecoin has never been easier. Platforms now allow almost anyone to create a token within minutes, helping thousands of new projects appear every week. But easier launches have also created new problems, including bot activity, recycled developer wallets, and pump-and-dump schemes.

That is why many traders have started looking beyond simple launch tools. MemeToro ($MT) and Pump.fun both target the memecoin market, but they approach fair launches very differently.

Pump.fun Made Launches Easy, But Risks Still Remain

Pump.fun changed the memecoin landscape by making token creation accessible to everyone. More recently, it strengthened its infrastructure by integrating the Vyper trading terminal directly into its ecosystem, creating a more complete trading experience for users.

The platform has also matured considerably since its early days.

Many experienced traders who survived the initial speculative period have adapted their strategies, leading to stronger profitability among active on-chain participants. Even so, analysts continue pointing out that creating a token quickly does not automatically create a fair launch.

Automated liquidity locks reduce some risks, but they cannot stop coordinated bot activity or prevent recycled developer wallets from participating in launches.

As one market analyst recently noted:

“Platforms like Pump.fun haven’t eliminated risk; they have just democratized token generation. The infrastructure is superior on Solana, but traders must remember that viral narratives are noise until confirmed by sustainable on-chain depth.”

For many investors, that means looking beyond launch speed and focusing more on how projects attempt to improve launch quality.

    How MemeToro Approaches Fair Launches

MemeToro ($MT) takes a broader AI-first approach rather than acting as only a token creation website.

The platform is also being developed alongside the growing $BNB Chain AI ecosystem, where new infrastructure focuses on reducing front-running while supporting autonomous blockchain applications.

Instead of asking users to manually monitor market trends, MemeToro ($MT) organizes public information into practical insights before launch decisions are made.

Technical Overview of MemeToro AI Agent: How it Works

The MemeToro ($MT) AI Agent is an automated asset-creation tool that manages the end-to-end development of trend-based cryptocurrency tokens.

    Core System Functions:

    • Real-Time Data Analysis: Scans continuous feeds of global news and digital communities to identify rising cultural topics.
    • Automated Creative Output: Generates all essential visual and structural assets, including logos, marketing banners, and the core token concept.
    • Pre-Launch Verification: Displays a comprehensive preview of the generated materials and token mechanics for user evaluation prior to the official launch.
    • Fair-Launch Deployment: Deploys the completed token instantly to the public market without pre-allocations or team advantages.

The infrastructure is powered by the $MT token, which is currently available during the active presale phases.

Currently in Stage 4, the project has already raised $66,670.37, reaching 82.52% of its $80,785.59 funding target.

The current token price is $0.00171, while the next stage increases automatically to $0.00190.

Fair Launches Depend on More Than Speed

Creating a token in minutes is no longer enough to stand out.

As AI becomes more involved in blockchain applications, traders are beginning to evaluate how launch platforms handle transparency, automation, and long-term ecosystem participation. MemeToro ($MT) combines launch tools with AI-powered trend analysis, staking, and prediction markets, giving users additional ways to interact after a token goes live rather than focusing only on deployment.

That broader ecosystem reflects how many newer blockchain projects are trying to build beyond the launch itself.

    Different Platforms for Different Goals

Pump.fun remains one of the most recognizable names in memecoin creation and continues attracting significant activity across Solana.

MemeToro ($MT) is targeting a different direction by combining AI-assisted launches with a wider ecosystem built around $BNB Chain. Whether one approach ultimately proves stronger will depend on adoption, continued product development, and user participation.

As the memecoin market evolves, investors increasingly appear to value platforms that offer more than simply creating another token.

Michael Saylor Changes Strategy: Strategy Didn’t Buy Bitcoin This Week! Here’s Where He Invested!

Strategy, the largest institutional Bitcoin investor, has paused its Bitcoin strategy. While the giant company sold a significant amount of $BTC last week, it hasn’t made any sales this week, but it hasn’t made any new $BTC purchases either.

According to Strategy founder Michael Saylor, Strategy sold $466.7 million worth of MSTR shares but did not purchase any Bitcoin.

According to a July 13 SEC filing, Strategy sold 4.82 million shares of MSTR between July 6 and July 12 for net proceeds of $466.7 million.

The company did not make any Bitcoin purchases during the week and kept its holdings stable at 843,775 $BTC as of 12/07/2026.

At this point, Strategy increased its USD reserves by $450 million, raising its total reserves to $3.0 billion.

“Strategy has increased its USD reserves by $450 million. As of 7/12/2026, we hold 843,775 $BTC in our $BTC reserves and have $3.0 billion in our USD reserves.”

Especially in the face of recent Bitcoin declines and risks, Strategy and Saylor, which have been focusing on cash reserves to calm the markets, announced their Digital Credit Capital Plan in June. This plan stipulated that the company would hold reserves sufficient to cover at least 12 months of dividend payments.

As you may recall, the company also announced that it sold 3588 $BTC to increase its USD reserves.

  • Samsung Health App May Erase Your Data If You Opt Out of AI Training

Samsung Health App May Erase Your Data If You Opt Out of AI Training

Samsung is making it harder for you to opt out of AI training in its Health app.

As How-To Geek reports, users are seeing a notification when launching the app that introduces a new privacy toggle called “Consent to the use of health data for AI training and modeling.” If you toggle it off, the app warns that it will no longer sync your health data with your Samsung account.

“You will not be able to sync health data with your Samsung account and your health data will be deleted unless retained pursuant to applicable law,” the alert reads. “If retention is required, we will erase it as soon as the required retention period ends.”

It is unclear what user data Samsung will collect if the toggle is enabled. A support page cited by various news outlets indicates that it could have access to your body measurements, nutrition data, step count, sleep metrics, medication data, health records, and cycle tracking data.

We’ve reached out to Samsung to confirm and will update the story if they respond.

    Recommended by Our Editors

For now, if you’re uncomfortable sharing the aforementioned data points, you can launch Samsung Health, head to Settings > Privacy, and disable the toggle next to “Consent to the use of health data for AI training and modeling.”

Of late, tech companies have been collecting copious amounts of user data because such real-world data can help improve the accuracy and performance of their AI models. Many AI companies are also facing lawsuits and scrutiny for allegedly scraping copyrighted or personal data without permission.
