The mother of Vickrum Digwa, jailed for life for the murder of Henry Novak, could be in line for deportation from the UK.
Kiran Kaur, 53, was sentenced to three years behind bars for removing the knife, used by her son to kill the finance student, from the crime scene.
On the night of the murder on 3 December 2025, she took the weapon back to the nearby family home in Southampton, Hampshire.
Kaur, who is an Indian national, could be eligible for the Government’s deportation scheme.
According to ITV News, Kaur could serve less than half of her sentence and be freed around the anniversary of Mr Nowak’s death under the Government’s early release scheme.
The Home Office said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Henry Nowak, whose life was cruelly cut short in a horrific act of violence.
“We will always seek to deport foreign criminals at the first opportunity.”

She is also appealing against her sentence, with a hearing scheduled at the Court of Appeal on 5 November.
When her sentence was imposed, the 221 days she had already spent on remand were taken into account.
During Kaur’s sentencing, Judge William Mousley KC told her ‘a responsible parent would have challenged their son’ and asked their child to ‘do the right thing’.
“You took the knife and put it at home with other weapons in your son’s bedroom,” he said.
By putting it among ‘a larger collection of ceremonial and other weapons’ it would have ‘helped to conceal what it had been used for’ because she wanted him ‘to avoid being caught’, the judge added.

Judge Mousley acknowledged that Kaur was unlikely to reoffend and said her motive was ‘mistakenly, to protect your son rather than for any personal gain’.
He said: “However, the seriousness of your offending, requires you to be punished and others who might find themselves in a similar situation to be deterred from doing as you did.”
Digwa was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years at Southampton Crown Court in June.
The 23-year-old, who is Sikh, had claimed that he was racially abused by Nowak, which led police to handcuff the teenager in the immediate aftermath of his stabbing.
However, body cam footage shows Nowak saying ‘I’ve been stabbed’, to which an officer replies ‘don’t think you have mate’.
Even after he became unresponsive, police continued with the arrest, before an ambulance was eventually called to check on his welfare. He died minutes later.
