Reports: Celtics, Neemias Queta agree to 4-year deal

Center Neemias Queta developed into a double-figure scorer in 2025-26 for Boston.

The Celtics continued their busy offseason with a reported move the day before July 4.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, center Neemias Queta and Boston have agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal. Last season, Queta took a tremendous leap forward in his production, posting 10.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.7 apg and 1.3 bpg after posting 5 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 0.7 bpg the season before.

The former second-round pick spent his first two seasons with the Sacramento Kings before signing a two-way deal with the Celtics in 2023. He played in 28 games with Boston in 2023-24, but jumped to 62 games a season later and last season, he played in 76 games (with 75 starts).

Queta is a rare mainstay on the Boston frontline after their busy offseason so far. Those changes begin with the reported departure of star forward Jaylen Brown via a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers, center Nikola Vučević’s departure in free agency to the Orlando Magic and the reported addition of Mitchell Robinson via free agency.

Robinson played a big role for New York during its championship run, averaging 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game. In the regular season, he averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes per game in 60 appearances as a backup to Karl-Anthony Towns.

It’s unclear if Robinson is being brought in to move into a starting role for the Celtics or to back up Queta.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
