Critical Warning from a Prominent Figure in Ethereum: “ETH Could Face a Crisis Within 3 to 9 Months!”

A former official of the Ethereum Foundation has warned that a fundamental development funding crisis could occur within 3-9 months.

Trent Van Epps, who previously headed core development funding at the Ethereum Foundation, warned that the industry could face a slow-moving funding crisis within three to nine months.

According to The Block, Trent Van Epps stated that Ethereum Foundation’s spending cuts and the end of the Customer Incentive Program (CIP) could lead to a deficit and crisis.

Van Epps emphasized that maintaining the core development ecosystem costs approximately $30 million annually, but because the foundation was not established to be the permanent administrator of the network, new institutions and funding mechanisms are needed.

“The Ethereum Foundation will not be the primary custodian of Ethereum for the next 10 years. Therefore, the ecosystem needs to reshape the social, political, and economic contract among its stakeholders.”

VanEpps warned that without stable funding, the network risks losing critical institutional investors built up over the years and failing to overcome long-term challenges, including quantum computing and scaling.
