Iranian State TV shares advice on how to survive nuclear attack as tensions escalate

People in Iran have been shown an advice video telling them what to do in the event of a nuclear attack, which was broadcast on their state TV.

The AI generated video tells people that if a nuclear bomb is dropped near them then they ought not to look directly at the blast and should stay away from any windows and the walls on the outside of the building they’re in, ideally getting into the centre of the building or in a cellar.

Once someone’s in shelter the advice says people should make sure all of the windows and doors are shut, turn off any ventilation systems and change out of the clothes they were wearing.

These clothes will need to be sealed up in case they’re radioactive, and then people are told to shower with warm water and soap before sheltering indoors for at least 24 hours.

This is where people would have to hope they’ve got bottled water and some tinned food stockpiled to eat during that time, and wait indoors until the official instructions say it’s safe to come back out again.

So why is Iran doing this?

The US government has said they’re not going to use nuclear weapons against Iran, but last month CNN reported they were putting together plans to launch the ‘mother of all bombs’ to hit Iranian nuclear sites and energy infrastructure.

That weapon is the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, the most powerful non-nuclear explosive the US has, meaning it would not be a nuclear strike.

However, on 1 November right-wing political commentator Tucker Carlson keeps claiming that the US government ‘may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran’.

Carlson has alleged that the Trump administration is ‘under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’, though he has been saying that for several months and it hasn’t happened yet which stretches the definition of an attack ‘within days’.

The pundit isn’t part of the US government and they are adamant he has no idea what they are planning or Trump is thinking, while he’s claimed that the decision will be made by US President Donald Trump by the weekend, with him giving 7 November as the time ‘close observers’ say he’ll have made up his mind.

Carlson, who used to be more closely associated with Trump but has since fallen out with him, has claimed that the recent Israeli election results that left Netanyahu without a majority for his coalition have left him ‘cornered and desperate’ and facing legal investigations which could leave him in prison without the protection of elected office.

The current war between the US, Israel and Iran has been going on for months and has seen a lot of non-nuclear munitions fired, with many lives lost and a lot of global disruption.

The only winning move in a nuclear war is not to play.
