People are having orders cancelled after using £30 off ‘hack’ for new Call of Duty game

An ASDA deal designed to save shoppers some cash on their weekly shop has descended into chaos after crafty Brits used the deal to purchase the new Call of Duty game.

Launched last week, the UK supermarket chain offered first-time customers £30 off an online shop if they spent £60 or more if they agreed to receive marketing emails.

Which is a pretty generous offer, considering that Christmas is just around the corner.

However, the supermarket’s thoughtful gesture has since derailed completely, as eagle-eyed shoppers have noticed the deal can be used to buy electronic items.

Cue an influx of orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which shoppers can get for half price if they purchase the game alongside a few small food items.

“Keep seeing everyone’s ASDA order so thought I’d share mine too,” one person wrote on X alongside a screenshot of a receipt which showed packets of sweets and the game.

It wasn’t only gamers who were taking advantage of the offer either, as one TikTok post was urging shoppers to register with multiple email addresses to maximise their savings.

Over on a subreddit dedicated to ASDA, employees were sharing accounts of the chaos which was going on behind the scenes, with one person revealing that their store had been inundated with over a 1000 orders.

“I am a asda manager and I assure you we didn’t know anything about this offer our express has been over 1000 items all day, everyone’s been picking it’s like Covid all over again we can’t cope,” one user wrote.

“I work nights and walked into an absolute disaster,” penned a second, while a third added that staff hadn’t been able to plan in advance as they had no idea the offer would be so popular.

“It’s been hell on earth in our asda picking we can’t keep up over 1,000. Think Asda need to stop the deal as ppl are misusing it and making several orders with new emails,” a fourth added.

ASDA ‘pauses’ promotion due to popularity

However, if you were hoping to grab yourself some groceries or a copy of CoD then I have some bad news for you, as it would appear the promotion has now been paused.

“Yeah so my ASDA didn’t have Call of Duty or they just cancelled it,” penned one shopper on X, while a second revealed that they’d also had no luck in securing a copy of the game, writing: “How can Asda take away the code and offer me a £5 voucher because MW4 is unavailable.”

While ASDA has not confirmed that the promotion has been paused or that non-qualifying orders have been cancelled, users are reporting that this seems to be the case, as the deal is no longer available online.

“They said they are pausing the promotion for a while because customers have been using the discount when they have not met their requirements,” one person wrote on TikTok, while a second added: “They’ve stopped it because of how many were doing it.”

LADbible has approached ASDA for comment.
