Truth behind world’s most famous Bigfoot footage revealed in new documentary

It only takes a few seconds these days to question something you see on the internet but when Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin captured footage of ‘Bigfoot’ back in 1967, the world of AI-generated content was still a long way away.

Myths and legends have long formed part of our culture and there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that there are things out there, whether it be aliens, ghosts or even the Loch Ness monster.

Aside from maybe Bessie, the world’s most famous mythical creature said to be living among us is probably Bigfoot, the ape-like creature which was captured in the minute-long video clip nearly 60 years ago.

That clip has become one of the most viewed in history and shows a shaking camera eventually catch up to the Sasquatch, who turns to look in the camera’s direction before continuing on its walk.

It has long split opinion as to whether or not the creature is real but it seems as if we’re finally going to get an answer, when the documentary Capturing Bigfoot drops on Amazon Prime and in select cinemas tomorrow (20 October).

Well you might have guessed already but the documentary is reportedly set to unequivocally prove that the original footage is nothing more than a hoax.

Now, you might well be unmoving in your beliefs, especially if you’ve spotted a Sasquatch around the mountains of North America yourself, but when it comes to the original footage, it’s definitely not real.

Patterson had begun to show his film around America, and it was presented as something of a scientific discovery at the time, since even Hollywood surely wouldn’t have been able to create a mysterious being with that much detail.

He said: “We played two weeks after Simon and Garfunkel, and took more money out of the building than they did.”

Naturally, Patterson, who died in 1972, and Gimlin, who is still alive today at the age of 95, will have known the truth for many decades but only now will it be confirmed.

This is all thanks to the ‘smoking gun’ discovery of director Marq Evans who discovered some film from 1966, which depicts a rehearsal of sorts for the famous footage which would be released a year later.

So, while it’s established that it’s not real, there will be many who will still dispute this evidence and stick with their beliefs no matter what, which is something the documentary explores as we’re all in a society that wants to believe in something a little out of the ordinary.

Although Bigfoot might not exist, there’s fortunately many other conspiracy theories for people to believe in, and the recent developments about UFOs over in America suggests that this viral Bigfoot footage won’t be the last thing to capture a nation’s interest, so long as we don’t genuinely lose all intelligence and start to believe those AI videos of people jumping out of volcanoes.
