Indiana coach Curt Cignetti has another new contract.

Cignetti has now signed more contract extensions (three) than he has spent years at Indiana (two). Though you can understand why the Hoosiers are so eager to make sure he’s not leaving anytime soon. Indiana is 27-2 in Cignetti’s two years at the school and went 16-0 in 2025 to win the national championship over Miami.

Per the Indy Star, Cignetti’s new deal goes through the 2033 season and averages over $13 million per season. He joins LSU’s Lane Kiffin and Georgia’s Kirby Smart as coaches who are making more than $13 million a year.

Cignetti’s previous contract extension came in October as the Hoosiers were No. 3 in the AP Top 25 and were — at the time — experiencing their highest ranking ever in the AP poll. That deal was an eight-year extension that pushed Cignetti’s average salary to $11.6 million a season. At the time, Cignetti said that he planned to retire as Indiana’s coach.

His first contract extension came in 2024 as Indiana made the College Football Playoff and only lost to Ohio State and Notre Dame.

That second deal included a provision to rework it that was triggered in January when the Hoosiers beat Alabama in the Rose Bowl to advance to College Football Playoff semifinal.

Per the terms of that October extension, Cignetti would become one of the three highest-paid coaches in college football if the Hoosiers were one of the last four teams playing in the playoff. The school would have 120 days following the semifinals to make that renegotiation a reality.

Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza is set to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after leading the Hoosiers to the national title. With Mendoza all but certain to leave for the NFL after winning the Heisman, Cignetti and his staff moved quickly to secure a quarterback for the 2026 season before the 2025 season was officially over. The Hoosiers signed former TCU QB Josh Hoover to be the team’s QB in 2026. Alberto Mendoza, Fernando’s younger brother and the team’s backup in 2025, subsequently transferred to Georgia Tech.

Spring training games have barely started, and the Baltimore Orioles are already dealing with two significant injuries. A little more than a week after the team announced Jackson Holliday would miss time due to a hamate injury, the Orioles announced Friday that promising infielder Jordan Westburg will miss all of April due to a partially torn UCL.

It’s yet another disappointing injury for Westburg, who has missed significant chunks of time the past two seasons.

When healthy, the 27-year-old Westburg has flashed strong skills. He hits the ball relatively hard and showed promising power last season, hitting 17 home runs in 85 games.

But injuries have plagued the infielder since his encouraging rookie season, in which he slashed .260/.311/.404 in 68 games in 2023. Westburg missed a chunk of time in 2024 due to a hand injury. He was limited by hamstring and ankle issues last season and slashed .265/.313/.457 when he was on the field.

The Orioles expect Westburg to miss all of April due to his partially torn UCL but did not offer a timetable after that. Westburg will receive a PRP injection in hopes that clears up the issue and gets him back on the field. If he’s able to return, it’s unclear whether he’ll be able to play the field. While hitters have played through UCL injuries, they’ve typically been used as designated hitters. That could be Westburg’s fate if the PRP injections work.

Both injuries put the Orioles in a difficult spot heading into the 2026 season. Baltimore is expected to bounce back after going 75-87 last season. But while the Orioles should improve, the team will need all the help it can get in a tough American League East.

Injuries to both Holliday and Westburg make that task much harder, which is not what Orioles fans want to hear before their team has even taken the field.

The U.S. women’s curling team fell 7-4 to Switzerland in Friday’s semifinal match, ending its bid for a first-ever gold medal. The Americans will now face Canada in Saturday’s bronze-medal match.

The match remained tight throughout, with the U.S. grabbing an early lead before Switzerland answered with two in the second end. The Swiss used the hammer to their advantage, keeping the Americans just out of reach even as they tried to chip away at the deficit.

Switzerland’s vice skip Alina Pätz was nearly perfect with a 99% shot success rate. Time and time again she added to the point total or kept the U.S. off the scoreboard in an end.

The U.S., led by skip Tabitha Peterson, could not out-strategize their opponents. It was a methodical win for the Swiss, who were stunned a day ago when the two teams met in the round-robin finale, which saw Peterson win it on the final throw of the extra end.

In the 10th and final end on Friday, the U.S. had one last chance, but Pätz denied any hope of extra ends and delivered a two.

Switzerland will play for gold on Sunday against Sweden.

The U.S. will look for its first-ever medal in women’s curling since the event was added to the Olympic program in 1998. During the 2002 Salt Lake City Games the Americans fell in the bronze-medal match to Canada.
