The 2026 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships are this week. The Championships take place at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and select events will be broadcast on NBC and USA Network, but you can catch the entirety of the competition — every single skater in every discipline — live on Peacock. The event culminates with the naming of U.S. Olympic Figure Skating team on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. ET live on NBC and Peacock. NFL coaching search: Teams reportedly still pursuing Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman
NFL teams are continuing to pursue Notre Dame’s Marcus in their search for a new head coach — despite Freeman’s earlier indication he intends to stay with the Irish for the upcoming season — NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday.
Freeman had loomed as a strong potential candidate for upcoming head-coaching vacancies in the NFL last month before he announced on X on Dec. 29 that he planned to return to Notre Dame.
With eight NFL teams currently searching for a new head coach, that hasn’t deterred some of them from continuing to vet Freeman’s candidacy behind the scenes, Rapoport reported. Freeman likely wouldn’t be involved in a lengthy interview process by those teams, which continue to expect Freeman to make the jump to the NFL at some point in the future, if not this offseason.

Freeman and the school reportedly agreed to a restructured deal that will pay the coach among the “top tier” of head-coach salaries.
Freeman, 39, has excelled at the university since taking over the head-coaching role in 2021. Since then, Freeman has compiled a 43-12 record. The Fighting Irish have been ranked every season under Freeman and made it all the way to the national championship last season, when Notre Dame lost to Ohio State.
Notre Dame was in good shape to make the College Football Playoff this season, but a final-week change by the committee left the Fighting Irish out of the bracket. That decision was met with controversy and drew some salty responses from Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua. Notre Dame declined to participate in bowl games following the snub.

Texas lands No. 1 transfer portal player, former Auburn WR Cam Coleman to play with Arch Manning
Arch Manning will have a talented new target to work with next season.
Former Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman announced on Sunday that he’s transferring to Texas. Coleman made the announcement on Instagram. Per On3 rankings, Coleman is the No. 1 player in the transfer portal.

Texas also flipped former NC State running back Daylan “Hollywood” Smothers from Alabama after Smothers had previously committed to the Crimson Tide, On3 reported Sunday.
A former five-star recruit, Coleman played two seasons at Auburn and will join Texas for his junior season. In two seasons at Auburn, Coleman tallied 93 catches for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns. He led the Tigers in receiving yards and touchdowns as a sophomore with 56 catches for 708 yards and 5 touchdowns.
A 6-foot-3 athlete with speed, Coleman is a high-upside talent who could slot in as Manning’s No. 1 target next season. He projects as a potential first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Coleman averaged 14 yards per catch at Auburn and put his big-play ability on display in a November game against Vanderbilt with 10 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown. He’s a big get for the Longhorns as they project to compete for the College Football Playoff in Manning’s second full season at starting quarterback.
Smothers, the No. 31 player in On3’s portal rankings, is a dual threat out of the backfield who tallied 1,128 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns at NC State last season.
Transfer portal: Former NC State RB Hollywood Smothers flips from Alabama to Texas
Hollywood Smothers is not going to Alabama.
The former NC State running back committed to the Crimson Tide days ago. Sunday, he flipped that commitment to Texas, according to On3.
It’s a major coup for the Longhorns, as they’ve now added two significant transfers at running back. Not long after Smothers had committed to Alabama, Texas secured a commitment from Arizona State RB Raleek Brown.

Smothers rushed for 939 yards and six touchdowns on just 160 carries in 2025. Across his NC State career, he averaged six yards per carry over two seasons and also grabbed 57 passes for 453 yards and three touchdowns.
Brown rushed 186 times for 1,141 yards and four scores in 2025 in his second season at Arizona State.
Both Texas and Alabama entered the offseason needing to upgrade their run games. Texas has clearly done that while Alabama is now still searching for answers. The Crimson Tide’s leading rusher in 2025 was Jam Miller. He had just 504 yards, while Daniel Hill, the team’s second-leading rusher, had fewer than 300 yards rushing as Alabama averaged just 3.5 yards per carry.

Texas averaged 4.2 yards per carry in 2025 and Tre Wisner and CJ Baxter both entered the transfer portal at the end of the season.
Brown and Smothers could form one of the best rushing duos in the country in 2026 as Texas loads up for a College Football Playoff run with Arch Manning. The Longhorns also got a commitment from former Auburn receiver Cam Coleman on Sunday. Coleman was seen as the best wide receiver in the transfer portal.
All-Pro Eagles RT Lane Johnson won’t play vs. 49ers; San Francisco gets Trent Williams back
The Philadelphia Eagles will be down one of their most important players against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson is inactive for Sunday’s wild-card game with a lisfranc sprain in his right foot that’s sidelined him since Week 12.

The injury cost Johnson the last seven games of the regular season. There was hope in Philadelphia that he could return for Sunday’s playoff game, but he was a late scratch after initially being listed as questionable.

The news is a blow to the Eagles on the field and on the sideline. Johnson was a limited participant at practice this week, raising hope that their veteran leader would be back in time for Sunday’s playoff game.
A 13-year pro who’s played his entire career with the Eagles, Johnson is the veteran leader on Philadelphia’s offensive line. He’s played in 15 career playoff games, including both of Philadelphia’s Super wins after the 2017 and 2024 seasons.

Johnson’s also one of the best offensive tackles in football. He’s a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro. He was named second-team All-Pro during Philadelphia’s run to the Super Bowl title last season.
The 49ers, meanwhile, got good news on their offensive line. All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams is back for Sunday’s game after missing Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks with a hamstring strain. The 49ers, however, will be down several key players, including wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) and linebacker Dee Winters (ankle), who were both listed as questionable before the 49ers announced before kickoff that they would not be active for Sunday’s game.
Alysa Liu, ‘Quad God’ among Team USA skaters going to Milan Olympics
The Milan-Cortina Olympics are only a few weeks away, and the United States has formalized its 2026 figure skating team. Comprising both star power and technical mastery, the 2026 team stands an excellent chance of medaling across multiple events.
While United States skaters are the reigning gold medalists in the men’s competition and bronze in ice dance, Americans have suffered through long stretches of medal-free games in the women’s (2006) and pairs (1988) competitions. That could well change this year in northern Italy, particularly in the women’s event.

The United States will send 16 skaters to Milan: three women’s individual competitors, three men’s individual competitors, two pairs, and three ice dance teams. Skaters have been judged on the totality of their performance from the start of 2025 through this week’s U.S. championships.
The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics begin on Feb. 6. Figure skating begins that day with the opening installments of the team events of pairs, ice dancing and women’s short program. The first medals will be awarded on Feb. 8 in the overall team event.

2025 season record: 13-4 (o 7.5 wins), first in AFC South, lost to Bills in AFC wild-card round, sixth in DVOA
Overview
It’s impossible to overstate the success of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first year of head coach Liam Coen. Thirteen wins and an AFC South title are more than most Jacksonville fans could have imagined, even at some points during this regular season. The first half of the season was rocky with an offense that wasn’t clicking and a “plan” for second overall draft pick Travis Hunter that felt like he was being held back from his potential on both sides of the ball.

But this team became one of the best over the second half of the season. The Jakobi Meyers trade allowed all the offensive pieces to fall into place while Trevor Lawrence ranked fourth in EPA per play and third in success rate from Week 11 until the end of the regular season. The Jaguars were third in weighted DVOA by the time the season ended.
Jacksonville got the most out of its talent and it still feels like there’s more to come. A Year 1 couldn’t be much better and expectations are sky-high for Year 2.
Cap/cuts outlook
The Jaguars are about -$13 million over the salary cap in effective cap space, the fifth-lowest in the NFL, according to Over The Cap. It’s tough to look at this cap situation and imagine Trent Baalke almost had another go as general manager. There aren’t a lot of clear cost-saving moves with a few players who would save around $2 million each. Jacksonville also doesn’t have a ton of restructure options. OT Walker Little could open just under $8 million, but his status in the lineup is questionable with the recent extension for guard Cole Van Lanen. A trade could also save $7 million.

Would Travon Walker be a trade candidate? With the former first overall draft pick set to play on his fifth-year option, the Jaguars could free up $15 million and recoup some draft capital lost in the Travis Hunter trade, which cost Jacksonville its first-round pick this year.

Lloyd had his fifth-year option declined, but came through with several big plays throughout the 2025 season. But Lloyd was only 78th in yards allowed per coverage snap and 39th among linebackers in FTN’s defeats. Etienne was another former first-round pick who came alive in his final season. Etienne was 11th in rushing yards, but just 42nd in success rate among 49 running backs with at least 100 carries. Brown was impressive as an outside corner in the Anthony Campanile defense. He ranked 15th among cornerbacks in adjusted yards allowed per coverage snap.

Jacksonville’s need for a cornerback could hinge on the recovery and projected role when Hunter returns. He played well as an outside corner and ranked 36th in adjusted yards allowed per coverage snap at the position. But it’s unclear what the Jags have planned for him going forward. The Tyson Campbell for Greg Newsome trade was a lose-lose and Newsome will be a free agent.
Arik Armstead was second on the team in pressures and was often the only player on the interior able to create penetration. Against the run, Jacksonville was seventh in success rate, but just 21st in stuff rate for tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage.

The Jaguars need to figure out how they want to approach the offensive line. The extension for Cole Van Lanen was the first indication. By EPA per play, the best offensive line combination has been what the Jaguars ran out late in the season, going Van Lanen, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Walker Little and Anton Harrison from left to right. Jacksonville has a decision to make on Harrison’s fifth-year option and Cleveland will go into 2026 on the final year of his contract.

What could move the fantasy needle in 2026?
Figure out ‘your guys’
This is an ecosystem to bet on, but the question now is: Who the primary skill-position options will be for this team in 2026? In the backfield, it’s a rather simple equation. Travis Etienne Jr. ended up being the clear right answer for this team at running back. The passing game, specifically the wide receiver room, is a tougher knot to untangle, with trade deadline acquisition Jakobi Meyers playing well alongside Parker Washington. However, teams absolutely invite regression when they just sit on their hands and don’t build on strengths in the early goings of new regimes. Getting more out of either, or both of Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter as they return from injuries in 2026, can be a key in staving off that regression. — Matt Harmon

Matt LaFleur ‘of course’ wants to return as Packers head coach after playoff loss to Bears. Will the decision be his?
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur wasn’t ready to discuss his future with the team late on Saturday night, following a heartbreaking playoff loss to the Chicago Bears.
“Now’s not the time for that,” he said simply after the team’s stunning 31-27 wild-card loss to the Bears at Soldier Field.

On Sunday afternoon, LaFleur was asked about his future with the organization once again. A little less than 24 hours after the loss, he still didn’t really have much of an answer.
“That’s not the focus right now, to be honest with you,” LaFleur said when asked about his future. “We’re fresh off this loss. My sole focus is on our players, our team, and just trying to find ways to get better.”
LaFleur, who took over in Green Bay ahead of the 2019 season, only has one season left on his current contract with the organization. The NFL Network reported earlier on Saturday that Packers team president Ed Policy was expected to meet with LaFleur shortly after the season to begin negotiating a new contract. Policy and LaFleur spoke briefly on the plane on Saturday night.

Whether that changes in the wake of the Packers blowing an 18-point lead to the Bears remains to be seen. The Packers had been 9-3-1 before losing five straight games to end the season. All of those losses came after star defensive end Micah Parsons was lost for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
“We’re not where we want to be,” LaFleur said, according to ESPN. “I know we fought through a lot of adversity this year. Unfortunately, we didn’t do enough to overcome that adversity. That’s all of us collectively.”
LaFleur, whose $5 million salary ranks well below the top tier of the league’s coaches, made clear on Saturday night that he wants to return as the Packers’ head coach. While that may not be up to him, he backed that up again on Sunday.
“Of course [I want to return]. This is one of one,” LaFleur said. “I love this place. I love the people. As much as you guys drive me nuts sometimes, I love you guys. I love our players, the locker room, everybody in our organization. This is a unique place … My kids love it here, my family loves it here.”

The Packers have made the playoffs in all but one of LaFleur’s seven seasons as head coach, but have not advanced to the Super Bowl under him. Poor special teams play has continued to prove costly for Green Bay in the postseason. Brandon McManus missed a pair of field goals and an extra point in the loss to the Bears.
“I would say every season is maddening when you end the way we have, especially this season,” LaFleur said. “Adversity is part of this game, and bottom line is you have to find a way to overcome. If you don’t, then you have to answer a lot of questions for it.
While LaFleur has been undoubtedly successful with the Packers, they’ve repeatedly fallen short of a Super Bowl run. Whether that will lead to a coaching change, only time will tell.
